Where do commercial bankers find their deals? How can I improve my sales approach to find more business lending opportunities? What sales skills do Commercial bankers need to be successful? Where should I invest the time to find business leads? In today's video we will cover off the common sources of deal flow for commercial lenders and discuss how to maximize creating opportunities which leads to new business loans. There are several lead sources for commercial bankers including;
1) Business brokers
2) Accountants
3) Real estate agents
4) Lawyers
5) Wealth advisors & insurance planners
6) Part-time CFOs
7) Private lenders
8) Direct outreach and cold calling
9) Internal bank networking
10) Selling to your existing book of clients
Most successful commercial bankers understand that direct outreach is very ineffective, developing referral relationships with key centers of influence (COIs) is the best approach to generating leads for commercial banks. I will share my tips and techniques to get the most out of this COI networking.

    So glad you’re doing more commercial banking content. I’m a commercial banker (primarily in the ag sector currently). I find that A LOT of colleges, KZread channels, etc. overlook this field. As a result I notice a lot of college students (even in highly related fields like accounting, economics, finance) completely overlook this sector and assume they’re going to be a “financial analyst, investment banker, stock trader, or financial advisor.”

    I couldn't agree more! I didn't know about commercial banking until I met someone that worked in the sector and realized it was a possible career option that fit perfectly with my personality/curiosity. Hopefully this content and future videos will bring more attention to it. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks for the video, can I ask, what about finance brokers as a COI, how to deal with them?

  • @financekid3163

    I grouped them into the investment banker category and they would be a good choice to pursue, the problem with loan brokers is they already have established relationships with lenders at most of the banks so you need to work with the younger finance brokers who are looking to build lender relationships rather than unroot existing lender relationships with the experienced brokers. Be aware that their job as a lending broker is to broadly market the lending opportunity so it will be a competitive process.
