I love being able to read whats going on along with watching the TAS

i like this format of having notes on the side and the random number generator thing. Thx for putting this together!

I just finished watching the entire video, and I'm already eagerly awaiting the video for Disc 2. I enjoy all of the TAS video's you make, but have always especially enjoyed watching the videos with commentary. Excellent job, as always.

Oh my god, the fact that you will have notes means that I'm 40 seconds in and already so excited to watch all of this run. Thank you for doing this, I hope to see more of your work!

honestly my thumbs and forearms muscles scream EFFF YOOOU playing hot and cold with a tas/emulator, getting the spot first time every time is mind-numbingly frustrating...but otherwise, love the crap out of this video series, very helpful!!

I honestly think that the chocobo hot and cold section needs more deatiled notes as i think us casuals could actually try to use it.

How do you manage to pull these values from the emulator? Is there some sort of guide?

Bizhawk can run Lua scripts, which is what I used here. You can display pretty much everything you want, providing you write the appropriate lines of code. Though I only used this script to give a nice display, I'm not using it for TASing. The Lua Console from Bizhawk has a help function that can help you a lot with all you can do. I've taught myself through trial and error, but I'm pretty sure some guide to Lua scripting can be found online.

hey, what about hippaul treasure? in the big bell at the church there are 3 cards which hippaul stored, just need to talk to him on the main square at Alexandria before talking to ticket master

There are 2 more cards available on Disc 3, so it's better to pick the 5 cards in one trip on Disc 3, which I did.

I did not understand one thing. Is staying at level 1 is a part of the challenge ?

You wanna wait until you get specific pieces of equipment before leveling up, so you get the best stats boosts. Thus staying at level 1 until you got them.

@@lanthiandokenhennes1805 Yes, some equipment give bonus points towards certain stats when leveling up. Which means that depending on what you've got equipped, you can get an extra point here and there.

How do you rng manip the items you unearth in the Chocobo Hot n Cold Minigame? I tried to freeze the global rng pointer, but the items I got kept being randomized. Is there a separate rng for the minigame?

I don't remember exactly but I think it goes like this. 1) The location of the item is constantly changing until you beak once. Then it uses the RNG to determine where it will be and stays right there. 2) Once you beak on the correct spot, it uses the RNG again to determine the depth and which item it is. I think that to be able to manipulate the item, you need to beak once before to set its location in stone. Once it's set, freezing the global RNG (0x7b720,4 bytes) should freeze the item. EDIT: I just tried on Chocobo Forest with a regular Chocobo. The item I get is not the same depending on if I get it on the first beak or after, but each item stays consistent when the RNG is frozen. I don't know how to reverse engineer this, but I don't think it uses anything other than the main RNG. Where and with what colored Chocobo are you trying ?

@@TheLilGecko I am riding the regular yellow Chocobo in Chocobo Forest first visit. I beak once without freezing the RNG to fix the chest place. Then I freeze the RNG and try to unearth the prize. It is still getting randomized, I don't know why. BTW, I am assuming the prize is fixed when Chocobo screams and find the place where it is buried.

@@gustavohal2401 I think I understand the problem. Do you savestate before freezing 0x7b720 ? 0x7b720 is a pointer not an actual value. In Chocobo Hot N Cold, the table of values changes very often, so if you freeze the pointer at a different time each time, the value it's pointed to is gonna be different. However, if you savestate after freezing the pointer, the item should be the same 90% of the time. (because the emulator doesn't actually freeze but rewrite every frame it can sometimes be off). If you want to consistently get the same items, you should freeze the table of values as well so it always has the same values

This : 50002001 00000000 8007B725 00000002 8007B720 0000B726 is Chocograph, then 500 Gil. and so on

For anyone in future reading this, the reason you stay at lvl 1 is cause stat gains are boosted when wearing stat boosting gear upon level up. Think of it like ff8 when you level up with say STR bonus or hp bonus The difference between the two games is that you can't further gain stats (through devour or refining) so the only way to have "perfect" stats in ff9 is to wait until you have the highest stat boosting gear in the game, then power level. Unfortunately, that gear is only obtainable very far into the game

Tool Assisted Speedruns. Only thing in the world that can hit the right input every frame. That speed is how quickly the frames occur
