The commander looks like such a fun class, I'm really hoping I can actually ditch the eternal GM cloak and make one someday... (or well, could always roll a GM PC if my Party would have me...)

Pincer attack and strike hard were definitely the go to for me when I played the commander, but I think form up is an underrated tactic. People don't think about how good it is to open an encounter with this ability. There were many times that I would go before the rest of the party, and the amount of positioning this tactic provides proved invaluable in multiple fights.

This class is a good example of something I've seen discussed before The power budget of a class that is purely support focused is a lot higher because of the fact that rather than overshadowing your friends, you empower them

I like what I'm seeing here honestly, rallying your party to fight on when they are downed, orchestrating their attacks and giving them cues, all that stuff is really cool and the roleplay fantasy of that class is pretty universally applicable! Most squad-based stories have a character like that, and it's nice that this leader doesn't have to be charismatic or the best at fighting but uses their noggin to assess threats, literally study their enemies and can engage in a lot of the exploration activities usually held for skillmonkeys or wizards. Your intelligence is gonna be high, so you might aswell be a master in society or occultism, depending on what environment you're in. The only problem I initially felt might come up is the reliance on other's reactions for some of the commander's powers. Like yeah, "shields up!" lets people raise their shields, but chances are if you got a sword and board champion or fighter in the party they either picked up reflexive shield or want to use their reactions to shield block, or use their class reactions. So I'm glad that this is something the devs thought of and that you can also give your party extra reactions, because otherwise you'd run the risk of stepping on each other's toes. I'm pretty excited to see this class in action - just need to convince my group that I would naturally be the best choice for partyleader lmao.

Love your enthusiasm! :) Unfortunately, some of these abilities look awesome on paper, but are bit bland or problematic when you start playing with them. But that's what the playtest was for. Commander has a really solid framework that only needs a few tweaks here and there, I can't wait for the final form. 33:29 Answer: it unfortunately does say you have to be holding the banner in your hands (or wield the weapon it's attached to), that's a part of the Banner trait. But how cool would that be if you could make your horse do pirouettes :) Rallying Banner: yeah, you don't get to rally your allies out of combat, buuut... don't worry, wood kineticists get to feed them bananas every 10 minutes! Out of combat healing is so easy to come by that this restriction is more of flavor over substance. 41:29 You must know what the orc had for dinner last Saturday. You just must, it's imperative that you do.

Noting a couple of thoughts as I watch here: -Defensive Retreat is 2 Actions and has the "must move away from hostile creatures" stipulation, while Passage of Lines is only 1 action, so in a tight space (like in a dungeon) I can see it coming up more than you might think. -Strike Hard is even better than initially stated, as it doesn't require the squadmate to be in banner range. They just have to see or hear you. Combine with the Bullhorn cantrip for shenanigans ahoy. -Banner Twirl does have the Banner trait, which states you must have the banner on your person, so sadly no spinning horses. However, if you can find some weird way to teach your horse that feat...

Something I hope gets added to the final version is the ability to permanently train at least some tactics, the fact that they will always forget makes it seem like the PC's have some kind of memory loss problem.

Good overview NoNat! I do have some thoughts though. Battle-Tested War Horse, flavorful perhaps but when has the case of an animal companion attacking its rider ever come up? To anyone. It's a sixth level class feat that makes your mount mature and gives you that bit of a rider text. No independent action, nothing flavorful and specific for the class (current champion has the exact same feat). I sincerely hope they fix it up for the full release because currently it feels so damn weak compared to other class options that give you a mature animal companion. End It and Demand Surrender, hard agree. It feels like something that should be mostly a roleplay thing as opposed to a mechanics thing. I'd go as far as to say that if it is going to be mechanized it should be either be a general or skill feat.

Not a single one of the characters that came to mind when I read about this class involved toting a flag of some kind around.

I actually...kinda hate this. Like, everything about this. It makes me think of the idea that "taunting" shouldn't really work in TTRPGs because you can't just treat enemies like mindless mobs in a video game that can be basically "mind controlled" into doing something you want them to do, like attack the tank instead of the squishy wizard. Many GM's and DM's are proud to say they don't run their encounters this way. But now we have an entire class who apparently wields the power of puppetry over all of their *allies*. Their whole shtick seems to be "I force my allies to move around like pawns on a chessboard". While PF2E is crunchy and I get that they're trying to add more content, this ain't it, chief. I don't want a class that treats their allies like mindless puppets any more than I want a DM that treats enemies like mindless puppets. This class will not be allowed in my games.

I disagree with that assessment of it, currently playing one, and my entire table sees it as extra opportunities to do their thing. Whether or not it feels good, is going to depend entirely on how it's played, same as a champion or rogue. The Guardian does need some work, it just needs abilities that punish enemies for attacking allies, and then certain enemies and bosses can just go "so?" and eat the penalty while deleting the wizard, leaving it up to the Guardian to make the active effort to deny physical access to those targets.
