It's sad that ID software gave up in continuing the Commander Keen series, so the "Universe is toast!" Became cancelled, now it's a m9d that became an unofficial sequel.

Fact: Commander Keen 7-9 were meant to be three-layer parallax-scrolling games with VGA graphics. My theory: I think the Wolfenstein 3D engine, or an earlier version of the engine, was made for the games, and that they should use the same VGA palette as the mentioned game. I think the hub worlds itself should be like Wolfenstein 3D levels, in third person style. In recent times, I think the levels themselves should behave much like the Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project levels, only in 2.5D.

What have they done to the music? I remember Commander Keen 4 with pretty pleasant music. This one here is literally a cacophony. BTW. Great gameplay, thanks.

This mod doesn't really have a perfect music, unfortunately. The following ones are much better though.

This was an early venture into modding Commander Keen, and if I got the anecdote from the creator correct, there were a lot of things that had never been tried with this. They did try to make some subtle music, but it didn't work out.

Before there was DOOM and before there was Quake, there was Commander Keen.

That's a nice glitch you did at 1:43:36 but you know there is an actual way to get onto that level :) look for a secret passageway from the fun house!

How did you manage that impossible jump in the gem temple???? Wow.

I stopped watching because all the time you interrupt the game to open the menu and keep recording and reading, this is very annoying, it breaks the dynamics of the game.

It's up to you whether you watch the video or not, and frankly I don't care much. I don't really have that much time on my hands to edit every recording, and if I wanted to, I probably wouldn't have got around to finishing these videos anymore.

​@John Nijland It's not "hard" to cut pieces of a video, and I am very well comfortable with video editing software (see my Loom Parallel Longplay video which took quite a lot of editing), but it's something tedious that requires effort proportional to the length of the video. This video is just a byproduct of a fun activity (playing the game), but going through it *again* and editing it is no fun at all. Instead, I could rather easily write a software that removes all frames from the video where the menu is shown, but even that is effort I don't see paying off much, and certainly not that late in the lifetime of the video. Frankly, I see it as something a bit rude to tell some random guy on KZread to go into additional and certainly non-trivial effort to make your watching experience more pleasant. Unless KZread starts paying me for the videos I upload, there is really no incentive in that for me, especially considering how badly KZread rewards effort these days. If you really want to see this video edited so badly, feel free to do it yourself, or send me some reward for doing it. Otherwise, nobody forces you to watch it.

@@IS4Retro I believe the entire mod team suffers from lack of time?? Most of sprites are just modified old ones. The music is horrible. But ofc I can't share my opinion bceuase it is "rude" as long as it is not gloryfing the content.
