Comica BoomX-D Pro Wireless Lav Kit

Фильм және анимация

In which I review the Comica BoomX-D D2 Pro D2 Wireless Lav Kit. I have mixed feelings about this one. It was a great try by Comica, but I think they can do better.

    Thank you for the honest review. For a moment I was not sure if you will tell the whole story. :)) I'm a happy Rode Wireless Go (all generations) user.

    Hey thanks! Yes, it was tricky. I hate putting down products-especially if they’re not THAT bad. But, it just wasn’t very good. I had to say it the way it is. Do you like your Røde Wireless Go? Thanks for watching!

    Yeah, it sucks. But so happy I don't have to buy it! I can hear my wife opening the front door as I write this. Marriage saved. Also, loved the Canadian railroad sequence. I wanted to jump into the screen and join you on the tracks. And speaking of Canada, thanks a bunch for the wildfire smoke you're sending down here on the East coast of the US. Best wildfire smoke ever. Top quality! Seriously, I hope you are not near the wildfires. Take care!

    Hahaha. Hey man! Glad I saved your marriage for you! Yep. That smoke. It’s insane. We’re getting it here but not as bad as NY. They say the worst will be tomorrow for us. But no fires anywhere near us. It’s positively apocalyptic out there. Looks very dystopian. The world’s on fire! I’ll just continue on tinkering with my toys. Haha.

    I have been using these radio loops for a long time and I can only say good things about them based on the recording quality, convenience and reliability, and also ease of use. This is probably the best option until today, I just see how constant troubles happen to others and I don’t think about replacing. I have a question about another microphone from this company. Maybe you have come across Comica STM01? How do you think it will differ from BAIFEILI V5? What should you prefer for voice-over recording?

    @@TheRecordist, Good news! Compared to the Comica, I am concerned about the enormous level of its own noise, as with other microphones from this company. I understand that this can be leveled out with processing. I will be waiting for your video for a microphone, which costs us $100 with delivery.

    I have the deity pocket go or whatever it’s called. Haven’t used it a huge amount and I don’t have a good quality lav mic to use with it. I’m thinking of getting a better lav, recording from that straight into my H5, then put the output from that into the transmitter of the deity thingy, receiver into the camera, to be able to sync up later without being attached to the camera with a cable…

  • @TheRecordist

    @TheRecordist

    Hey Jimi! Hmm. That’s not the greatest plan. I’ll tell you why: lav to H5 (analog to digital conversion) -> H5 to deity (digital to analog conversion) -> deity (analog to digital conversion) -> sent to receiver digitally, then receiver (digital to analog conversion) and then into the camera (analog to digital conversion). It can only sound way worse. Every conversion is a chance to lose quality. I struggle with this as well. Better to have high quality converters or to find the path with the least amount of conversion.

    @@TheRecordist yeah what I mean is I will use the recording in the H5, and just have the bad multi-converted version in the camera to make syncing the H5 recording with the video quicker

    I have the Saramonic Blink 500 Pro B2 set and I think they sound a little bit better than this kit. A little bit fuller, but still not a pro audio set, of course. It sounds good for the things you mention; KZread creator type stuff mostly. However, it does seem to have a problem with body obstruction, and that is concerning. I just need to remember to put the transmitter on the side of the talent and be sure they only turn in one direction in order to keep a line of sight on the transmitter to keep the dropping to a minimum. While researching it, I saw mostly a hit-or-miss consistency of obstruction issues. Some people had it, some did not. The Comica seemed to have less of an issue with obstruction than the Saramonic kit I have.

    I will say that the Comica had no issues with signal loss in my testing. So that’s good. But the quality. That’s a different story. Thanks for watching!

    @@poweroftrue1 hmm. I don’t have any experience with the Saramonic systems. I think the Røde Wireless Go 2 is better than the Comica. The Hollyland Lark Max seems to be the best one in this category. Sorry I could have been of more help.

    @@Step-n-Wolf I don’t think it’s as good as Røde’s Wireless Go II since the Comica attenuates the lows at 100Hz. Røde has its own problems-namely it’s easy to overload and even the safety channel overloads. So distortion city when speaking loudly. With the Comica, I didn’t even touch on the position of the receiver screen being hard to read when on a camera. There’s no way to position it so you can see the signal. Also, you cannot really adjust the gain. It sounded bad. But it did have a great strength of signal and it can easily be used for vlogs and stuff like that-where high end audio isn’t expected. It’s not like it’s unintelligible. Just, for the money, there are better systems. Also, since Comica contacted me to ask me to review it, and I’m a small channel, I assume they do the same with many reviewers who are more so camera-people and less so audio-people. So with all due respect to the camera people, they’re not audio pros-no matter how much some of them think they are. Just like I’m not a camera pro-no matter how much I think I am. Haha. Hope this helps!

    @@Step-n-Wolf well that depends on what you mean by “inexpensive”. Deity, Røde, even Sennheiser makes some decent ones. It’s all about your own budget. But I can assure you, I am always honest on my channel. If I wasn’t, I would’ve given the Comica System a much better review, but I’m sure they regretted sending me the wireless system after my review. I told them on first contact that I would be honest and I was. But these are my opinions. Yours may differ. The 20 millisecond latency is unnecessary as well. The Røde Wireless Go II is only 4 milliseconds. I like the Røde Wireless Go II a lot more than the Comica. The only issue with the Røde, as I said, was the potential to peak past 0dB with no ability to change that. But you’re right. For the money, there are very few options and they ALL have their faults. I just found the Comica faults to be excessive when compared to the similarly priced Røde Wireless Go II.
