Comica Boom XD Review | Dual Channel Stereo | Budget RØDE GO Killer | Full Wireless Lav Kit

There is finally a wireless lav solution that is going head to head against the popular Rode Wireless GO. When it comes to the overall value, the Comica Boom XD delivers quite a punch. Does it beat out the RODE in audio quality?

My review of it is here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k3V_x5WkhLjcZNI.html However RØDE just released the RØDE GO II which is a major leap in features. I will be testing it soon! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

    Thank you so much for not being a douch-canoe and ACTUALLY putting the information first!!! So refreshing, definitely subscribing. The biggest thing I was looking for with these mic systems was the ability to split the channels (for when one person speaks louder or softer than the other). I watched several other videos and gave up at 5 minutes in, and you told me the answer I needed by 47 seconds in. Contrary to what KZread content-makers are told, I am more likely to subscribe to someone who is useful than someone who goes through the formula of making me watch a bunch of yammering before getting what I want to see. I promise I'll keep the rest of the video playing even if I don't need more info to keep your average view time up!

    Hey hey KMO Creative! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! So glad you enjoy the format of this channel and that you got the answer you are looking for! This system is a bit old and there are other options coming soon as I'm sure a lot of the bigger named off brand companies are going to be putting in their bid to go against the new RODE GO II (my current 2.4ghz dual channel wireless recommendation). The RODE is going to be the more expensive of the bunch, so its going to be really interesting to see where these other companies are going to hit their price point and at what cost. I sincerely appreciate you're support! I will continue to do my best with my reviews and content! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

    Thanks for your review on this. Love the format for all your reviews. Definitely a great system to have if you don't have a wireless system already. I would love to see picomic come up with something to compete with this. Or even just an affordable single mic transmitter version.

    Hey hey MShirow! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! You're most welcome! Definitely a great system to start with, it punches so hard for its price point! I would love to see Picomic do this too, but I would also love to see them be able to retain stock as each order they get is immediately sold out. I know they are a small company, but they got a great product that fits a lot of needs outside of narrative filmmaking. So hopefully they will continue to grow and make more transmitter modules to go with the PicoStream RX they are using :) Thanks again for stopping by! Hey hey again Jarrad! I haven't looked at other reviews for the BoomXD but i'll take your word for it about the safety tracks mention... idk unless I got a "defective" unit? I think its a cool idea honestly, might be a extra click or two in post production when you get it to Dual Mono but still, why not have a safety track?! If I'm not mistaken I though one of the DSLR shotgun mics out there has the same ability. So glad this video has helped with your decision! I can't say I'm up there with Curtis Judd, he's a wealth of knowledge with so much more experience in the audio realm. I'm just a guy looks at a product and tries to answer questions I think I would have if I didn't have the product in my hand lol! Enjoy the BoomXD when it gets to you and have fun! Rise’s new NTG shotgun has a lot of the great thing deity did with their D3 pro and added other goodies like that. Not sure of any other shotguns other than Rodes. Once I get them I will have to explore in LumaFusion and see if it’s there. I shoot in real loud public areas. It could be a small blessing in disguise.

    Hey Hey Epic Adrian 3D! Thank you so much for checking out this video and the kind words! Idk... it might just be that I don't really want to do the vlogger review type style, I'd rather stick to information with my learning section at the end where I break down my thought process. I take after the greats like @Curtis Judd , @DSLR Video Shooter . I remember them talking about how long they've put the work in to get to where they are based on their style, they didn't blow up in a short period of time rather 5 years seems to be the mark. I'm only 2.25 years so far, so I still got a ways to go to earn it :) That being said, I've said this a few time to awesome viewers like you with the same comment. I'm cherishing this moment when I don't have a large sub count because it means I can take this moment to chat with you all and write long comments like this. There's going to be a day where I simply can't do that anymore, and it's probably the thing I will miss. So until then, you all have my attention when I go through and answer every comment! Hey hey Lewis! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I'm glad to hear this video has been helpful! I don't know how fast you need an audio system but I will be doing a major mass comparison against all the wireless mics I've reviewed from 2019 to now with a new audio quality test to give a better idea how all of these compare. But if you're in need of a system right now, the only sound quality difference I can say is that the RODE GO definitely has the fuller sound, with the BoomXD you'll want to EQ it a bit in post production and raise the Bass Frequencies to get something more full. Other than that if you're on a budget and needed a two wireless lav setup, the BoomXD punches really hard for the price tier that it's competing in. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Hey hey EDUSRG DSLR! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! To a certain degree I kind wish these small wireless lavs can take some sort of common small form rechargeable battery or possibly do what the SennAVX did where we can get a couple carts of their battery and be good to go without having to strap on a USB Power bank. However I feel like RODE would be the only company to do this because they will take into consideration of future products in their line up. But these things are getting better and better all the time. I still can't believe the Picomic literally lasted 20 hours straight! Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you in the next one!

Regarding plugging that lav mic into the RODE, that specific test will be coming in a follow up mass comparison with newer audio tests. I didn't plug the comica lav mic into the RODE because it wouldn't have been as standardized of a test since RODE doesn't supply this specific Comica Lav Mic. In the follow up video I'm going to be redoing my audio quality and noise floor tests with a new method that I think will give a much better idea of what the audio quality is between these clip on mics with mic ports. Hey hey again Steven! For people that already have RODE GO's I'd say try to assess if it makes sense to sell it and pick up the BoomXD. No doubt the 2tx to 1rx is awesome. But if someone already has had the RODE GO for a year, chances are they've made their investment back within the year with all the content they've created from it cause right now the RODE's edge is beating the Comica in audio quality and battery life. However for someone just starting out and on a budget, I would say get the Comica, for that price point it punches super heavy for its price tier. With a little EQ in post and you're good to go... That that being said... I have to say the Sony A7iii mic port does not sound as good as the GH5. There was a recent video out from @DPReview that the A7iii was having less desirable results but @Gerald Undone 's tests does not have the same issue. To me I know I was outside with the lav mic attached going into my GH5 and the indoors was the built in mic, but to me the GH5 audio (unprocessed) sounded richer to me and the A7iii sounded less full on the bass end. Thoughts? Hope all is well man, stay safe and healthy!

    Very inserting product! I'm mostly attracted to the dual channel recording, which is a feature missing from my Go. Though I see two main drawbacks that make me prefer the Go: Size and Battery life! I want to run the Go in weddings and other live events, where the ability to have a lav that is stealthy and can be mounted quickly is the key. As for the battery life, again for live events even 6 hours might me limiting since you might have to mic the groom/talent way ahead of the time and have the mic running for many hours. Overall, in more controller environments, the XD might be a better choice, but for me the Go is still the way to go. Great review as always, thank you for that!

    Hey hey again Aristomenis! The size isn't to different, both are quite small with the BoomXD feeling slimmer as its slightly taller and thinner (same thickness as RODE GO). The Boom almost feels like a Zippo lighter, but definitely not as dense feeling as the RODE GO. That extra 1.5 hours would definitely make a major difference for your wedding work. I think for people that already own a RODE GO has probably made their investment back or will be making it back very quickly with the content they create with it. For new filmmakers coming into the game, I think they have a really great starting option that punches very hard for its price tier! This BoomXD vs my old first audio kit Saramonic uwmic9 dual ch... what a crazy difference in size and ability, just nuts! Thanks again for always chatting in the comments! I'll see you in the next one!

    Hi Aristomenis, here is Comica Audio. Thanks for your interest and sharing!! If you need more battery life, actually you can charge it by USB-C interface power bank while using. Either transmitter or receiver has a USB-C charge interface. As to the USB-C and Lightning receiver, they are powered directly by phones.

    Hey hey again Where the Jones! Haha, if I went into my full talk about it in the TLDR section...well then it wouldn't be so TLDR lol. Definitely a nifty device that punches way hard for its price point, but of course if audio quality is 99% of what you need and not the features, you'll either still use the RODE GO or purchase something much more expensive. But it doesn't take much to give this Comica Boom XD a little post EQ and you're good to go in my opinion. Now if RODE made their own version... that would be something I'd be really like to see! Thanks again for hanging! I'll see you in the next one, stay safe and healthy my friend!

    Hey hey Beat Diabetes! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! The Comica is maybe about 1cm taller, but not as wide as the RODE. Thickness is about the same. The Comica doesn't have the weight of the RODE GO which leads me to believe that they could have possibly placed a larger battery inside. Other than that the Comica feels really nice in the hand, better than the RODE GO, it feels like a small zippo lighter. For the most part, in my opinion, while the clip on mic is a great feature in these products, I don't really use them in that fashion unless it's a last resort. Mainly because they are heavier than the ideal weight for clipping onto a normal shirt and will have a tendency to flip itself over into the shirt. The PicoMic I reviewed is the only one that does not have this problem because of how small it is and its design, but all the others suffer from this problem. Thanks again for stopping by! Very interesting review ! Both products are great, owning 2x Rode WGO was a choice for me as for shooting myself I needed a backup option, fast and easy to install. For interviews, 2 units (both RX/TX package) really make a difference and that's the way to go. You can find junction cables for mono or stero recording at 1.5US$. The battery can be swapped or not ? Also they are AA/AAA like in the Tascam DR10L ? Thanks for the product presentation and comparison.

    Hey hey Savage Beast! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Definitely! Both products I think serve a nice broad and specific spectrum for filmmakers around this budget range without getting into $600+ territory for a single system! Unfortunately the battery cannot be user swapped, it would be interesting to see if a company goes ahead and makes a small wireless lav kit that it only takes a single AAA battery... that would be pretty nifty. The battery life would be quite amazing too because I think most of these systems are around 300-550mAh batteries while a standard AAA I think is 1000mAh. We could see a system that lasts up to 9-10 hours on a single battery? I'm dreaming now but that would be pretty cool and definitely would cause a stir in the market as AAA rechargable batteries are easy to take with you and have on hand during a long film day! You're most welcome! Stay tuned for a super new battle between all the wireless audio kits I've reviewed so far with new tests that should give a much better idea of what each system sounds like! Thank you so much. It will then be a fairly rich audio comparison ^^ Regarding the Comica, it will be practical if the Clip of the transmitter can rotate to orient the unit as needed and the clip of the receiver can slide forward and back so that it does not interfere with the viewfinder... And also to be able to modify the transmitter level, from the receiver. Do you think it will be a good solution to use this system to have a wireless boom (so obviously the micro/Shotgun has an internal power supply) or it will affect a lot the audio quality? I can't see why it wouldn't work as a wireless boom solution. Some filmmakers have used the RODE GO in the same manner. Thanks again for another great review. After your previous review of the GO, I contacted you about the feasibility of using the mic in a comedy club where I would set up my camcorder at the back of the room and attached the GO to myself to improve the audio. (These are smallish clubs of max 200 people ). The audio from the camcorder (Canon Vixia R800) wasn't bad but I was hoping to improve it. On stage we use a stage mic, of course. My concern with using the GO was that it would not then pick up the audience response as well as the camcorder mic and mute it a bit. You had felt that this would not likely be much of a problem. I did wonder though that if I got a mono splitter and had the audio from me going to the left channel and that from a separate shotgun mic attached on the camera for more of the ambient audience response audio going to the right channel, if that would work. Someone suggested that might lead to phasing problems. With this new setup that you're reviewing here, it seems to come with what I need. Would I get both good audio fo me and the audience by having one transmitter on me and one attached to the camcorder at the back and would there likely be phasing problems?

  • @TLDR_filmmaker

    @TLDR_filmmaker

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hey hey again Wardie! Hmm... There could be some slighting phasing but that could be fixed a little in post where you take of the audio channels and push it back a frame (or subframes if you can) and that would help with the phasing. The other bit to help with phasing is when you are editing everything together, your crowd ambient track won't necessarily try and match up in volume with your clean dialogue track, so if there is slight phasing I wouldn't think this is as noticable. I"m speaking from my experience with recording live theatre performances where I have a clean feed from the mixer and then another camcorder is catching all the ambient via shotgun mic. In post I have my ambient track anywhere from 20-35% compared to my clean feed. Now in terms of using this BoomXD where one is on you and the other one is grabbing the ambience. I'd don't think you'd be getting much phasing because of the space you're in, but if there is you can move that ambient track a little backwards. The ambient mic will definitely pick up your onstage speaker mic, but again that shouldn't be too big of a worry as you mix down the audio in post. The one thats on you, connect with a lav, that'll give you a more natural voice with some ambience of the room. A feed directly coming from the speaker system would sound dead and dry. I'd think the BoomXD might give you the best of both worlds going into your Canon Vixia 800 to work with in post. And of course you don't need to bring a lot with you since that one receiver will handle both audio source.

If both RX(receivers) are placed within 2' of each other, it significantly decreases the range of the transmission. They interfere with each other. I've used my two sets of RODE GO very very close to each other during a two person interview and didn't run into interference issues. But in that specific scenario there wasn't a whole lot of wifi traffic. When you had the Two RX's close together, how far away do you think you were able to get from your subjects before it became unreliable? I just uploaded a updated sound test video where I do try a bunch of different lav mics with the Comica Boom. It doesn't necessarily improve the sound quality in terms of "fullness", it definitely is a better signal but you'll probably still want to do a little EQ in post depending on the person's voice or your desired sound. Hey hey Division of Labor! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Any standard 5v USB wall charger is fine, the 2a is not going to hurt the system because the system doesn't ask for that much power current. Wireless mics usually only ask for something like .5a and the charger is only give it .5a if that's what its asking for. If you are using an external audio recorder you do not want to use the attenuated cable, use the normal one because you want to give the external recorder the loudest signal its capable of so you can turn down your Zoom H5's internal preamp lower for cleaner sound. Thank you so much for the updates video, so I am a gh5 user. I assume reading your description the new stock, or if we buy this it will come with that cable? Also have a sony a6500. Does that cable work different to your standard cable to the camera?

    Hey hey Mark! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Correct, all stock has the attenuator cable. The only thing in terms of that cable is that there is a resistor inside that simply drops the signal down. If you don't need it and the regular cable works fine for your Sony, go ahead and use that one so that you can have the lowest mic level setting for clean audio. You won't notice a degradation of quality or anything from not using the attenuator cable. Hope this make sense! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

    Hey hey Imaginarypalace! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! You're most welcome! So glad you enjoyed this video! Unfortunately you cannot pair 3 transmitters to one receiver. There are systems out there that can do this, but I would advise against pairing more than 2 transmitters to 1 Receiver. The reason I saw this is because you will be working with one audio sound clip thats handling three different person thats all making their own noise whether it be shirts or coughing etc. If you are wanting to be able to edit that out, you won't be able to. So thus the 2TX is the better setup if the receiver, like the comica, can split it to Left and Right channel so that you have that post editing opportunity should you need it. Hope this makes sense! Hey hey again Laverne! As I've continued to work with this mic as well as reviewing their next mic. It would seem that the BOOMX-D has an default Low cut filter that you cannot turn off. I'm not exactly sure why they opted to do that, but now that I know it. It makes sense why my EQ setting to raise 50-150hz range brought back my voice and made it match the RODE that I showed in a later video. Always work within the budget unless the client or customer is willing to pay for the rental or you're able to work it into the budget to purchase the mic yourself for future work. Spending hard earned money on something without a quick way to recoup is never a good idea in my book, need to always move forward to grow and not get stuck in the same place for too long. Hope you are well my friend! Stay healthy and safe!

    Hey hey Riccardo! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! That is a very good question, while technically the iphone can receive a stereo signal it really depends on the application you are using to record if it is interpreting the audio as a dual mono or a stereo signal. I have a feeling the basic camera app in the iphone is Mono while something more specific like Filmic Pro would be stereo. This is my best guess as my Comica is being lent out right now so I can't test the basic iphone app (I don't have filmic pro) Hope someone in the comments can give an answer if they've worked more with mobile filmmaking. Great review. I am thinking about trying this as this would be great for trade show interviews. I would also like to know how it compares to the Rode Wireless Go for ambient noise rejection. I have a Shure wired lav mic that is amazing for this. I know it's too late now, but I think you could have used one transmitter on your jacket in front, and one on your back so you could test both line of sight and blocked at the same time. Not sure if that could case any interference. I recently performed an extreme range test of the Wireless Go, and used a measuring wheel so I could determine the exact distance. I used a white noise generator so it would have constant noise. Don't mean to troll, just sharing some ideas I think worked for me. I think my second favorite thing about this kit that is missing from the Wireless Go is the screen on the transmitter.

  • @TLDR_filmmaker

    @TLDR_filmmaker

    Hey hey again Dave Tech! In terms of ambient noise rejection, it doesn't seem to have any sort of noise reduction in the traditional sense as the internal mic and Lav Mic are both omni-directional. I think there are some lav mics (perhaps your Shure) that is not omni-directional but may have some sort of cardioid pattern to help not pick up louder ambient noises. The reason I didn't test with a TX on my front and back is because of the viewers that may be watching on a phone or a basic TV. I'm not a fan of doing tests where I have to instruct the viewers to wear headphones so that they can tell if the Left or Right channel goes out (if I'm doing a audio test). But I LOVE that white Noise Generator Idea, then I wont have to talk the whole time during the outdoor stress test except for when I let people know what distance marker I'm at :D (totally taking this idea) Thanks again for stopping by, stay safe and healthy and I'll see you in the next one!

    Hey great video! I'm new to all this so I have a question if you don't mind. Because of all that is going on, my church has started live streaming. This comica I believe would solve our sound issue. It seems to get great sound from a distance. My question (actually I have 2) Our video set up is about 50feet away from the altar. Questions 1) If I strap this on to the pastor, under all the garments he wears, would this still pick up the signal? I tried it with the Samson Go and it did horribly. Question 2) Besides the lavalier, can I plug in a microphone into the jack? I was thinking on one of the transmitters putting it near the choir, and the other one on the pastor.

  • @TLDR_filmmaker

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hey hey Alfredo! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Something tells me the Comica Boomx XD will still have the same issues as you did with the Samson GO because they both operate in the 2.4ghz range for a signal. My guess is 50ft away with the alter in the way is what was cutting out the signal (not the garments). The furthest I've ever tested this indoors was about 100ft away in an auditorium but I had clear line of sight the whole time and it worked well. That being said I have a new product coming in for review that is like the comica's 2TX to 1RX except it uses the UHF 500mhz frequency (Like the Sokani Tiny in this video) That one may perform better in this situation. But if you were to get the Comica BoomXD2, because the TX is much smaller, I would suggest putting it somewhere on the pastor where it wont be hidden behind the alter when he steps to it. The cloths won't be a problem, its usually the body and or other objects in the way that may interfere a 2.4ghz signal. As long as the TX and RX can "see" each other, you should be good indoors at 50ft and more. As for attaching a microphone for the choir. This can be done as long as its a DSLR on-camera microphone. These will always have a 3.5mm Jack and most will either have their own battery inside or will need a AA battery. You need these mics to supply their own power unless you are using something smaller like the RODE VideoMicro. I do have a couple of these types of mics coming in for review as well to see how they sound. Until I complete those tests and reviews, I hope some of this info will be helpful! good video but No mention of the most important missing feature - the option to adjust/change frequency channel should you use this in a professional environment with other people using radio mics , cam ops or pa systems, that completely interfere with your mics, then your completely buggered unless you can think on your feet,

    Hey hey MediaFX! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I agree! This video is a bit on the older side and at that point we only had the RODE Link and Deity Duo that were entering the 2.4ghz stage with the traditional channel selection feature in this frequency range. Then the RODE GO came at a lower price point and all these 3rd part companies followed with the frequency hop algorithm system. So far with the 2.4ghz systems in this price range I have tested, there is only one that sorta lets you channel select, they could give more options in the future with Firmware updates as the option to select frequency bands was only recently added a few months ago. So we'll see! We really need the bigger players to introduce the more traditional option into this budget range for pro's that need to manage frequencies on set, after that all the 3rd party competitors will follow. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

From what I remember with Comica, their warranty I believe is one year and you can email them or get in contact with them via social media. Whether it can match up against RODE, i'm not sure, I haven't had to use RODE's customer service yet. And yup, you can charge and use the system as the same time! Thanks again for stopping by! Is the gain setting for setting the input gain or the output gain? If it's the input gain, you can use it to change the microphone's sensitivity, to avoid clipping if the person you record has a loud voice (as actors often do), or is even shouting or singing. If it is only controlling the output gain (like it is on the Rode Gos), the input stage will definitely clip with a loud person, and lowering the output gain won't fix this, because now you will only lower your already clipped signal.

    Hey hey Michael! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I believe it is just the output gain, as my most recent major wireless comparison video, during the screaming test, the Comica more or less still got clippy. I got this mic using your link. It's really nice but I'm having trouble finding the auto scan feature. I do a lot of interviews and found that It works perfectly in my apartment but the audio can still pop in and out in close range when I'm working. I know it can go though multiple walls just fine when I'm testing it at my place so I just need to figure out the auto scan feature. I already checked the manual and can't find any mention of it.

    Hey hey again Photog_Prince! The 2.4ghz version does not have an autoscan feature as this type of mic does it on its own. Only the BoomXU version that we talked about before has the auto-scan feature.

    I was wondering when you talk about a safety Channel or a safety rail on the left hand Channel I really don't understand what that means will one person's voice always be lower than the other and can you adjust it or how do we deal with that if you're doing an interview and one person's Mike is lower that's the only part I didn't understand

  • @TLDR_filmmaker

    @TLDR_filmmaker

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey hey Matt! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! The safety channel is only in mono mode, not in stereo mode. So if you have two people being interviewed, you will always want to be in stereo mode so that each person is on their own separate channel so that you can adjust their voice volume after the fact incase someone is making a bunch of noise or is not talking loud enough. If you have two mics going and are in mono mode, their voices will be mixed together with no chance of you adjust someones voice independently. When in mono mode, the Right channel will be a mix at the loud level, and the left will a mix at the lower level (incase you accidentally clip the audio from your camera mic level settings. I talk briefly about split stereo audio editing here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZaGoqcyLhLSyZdo.html Hope this makes sense. Thanks again for stopping by! hey! thanks for the detailed review. I have 2 questions though. 1) have you compared the lav mic with rode lav or another one? 2) I didn't understand how does the left channel work as a backup channel. If you set manual mode with 2 transmitters, then left will record the first transmitter and the right channel will go for the 2nd transmitter. So, both of them are busy now. How does the left works as a back up if you use both of them as separate channels? thanks in advance and keep your style :)

  • @TLDR_filmmaker

    Hey hey Oktay! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! *1:* I am currently preparing to work on another major comparison video with new revised audio tests so that people can get a better idea of what sound you get. *2:* The mono and stereo feature work independently and cannot be used at the same time as you described. When you are in stereo mode, there is no backup channel, the Left side will be one transmitter and the right side will be the other. When you are in Mono mode, it will mix both transmitters together but the right channel will be a louder mix and the left channel with be a slightly lower mix. From there in post you can do a "dual mono" setting and either use both or one of the mono channels for your video clip :) Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! @@TLDR_filmmaker, thanks for taking your time and answering my question. So, there is no way to separate to speaking subjects in mono mode. Either I have to sacrifice the back up feature, or stick with stereo option and level the voices separately in the post. Thanks man!

    Hey hey Ground Up Productions! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I have performed this test awhile ago in the same area in this video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pn112pdmibqXibA.html (Previously I was in a park for my original RODE Review) The RODE can actually go nearly 350+ feet in the wide open if you place the RX vertically with clear line of site. The RODE can definitely go up to 200ft, but only in clear line of sight between the RX and TX, as I show in the test in the video I linked, the moment I turn around and block the TX with my body it will cut out immediately. The question is, does the gain setting set the input gain on the transmitter, or only the output gain on the receiver? If it is the latter, a safety track would not be that useful, because clipping would already occur before it is transmitted to the receiver. That is why I prefer the Saramonic Blink, where you set the levels on the transmitter itself and really prevent clipping. Same problem with the Rode, albeit it is very robust with loud sources. Can you test, how it works, and how robust the system is regarding clipping and loud sources? That is key for some applications.

    Hey hey again Andreas! I never thought of it that way (learn something new everyday) the input gain is done through the receiver. I will definitely add this test in my upcoming revised wireless audio showdown video. I've thought of a new way to restandarize my tests that should give people more of an idea of how each mic performs (built-in, included lavs, and 3rd party lavs. )

    If you get the single transmitter and receiver, it’s only $15 cheaper than the rode, but it’s bulkier. It would only make sense to get this if you were doing dual transmitters for 2 audio sources.

  • @TLDR_filmmaker

    Hey hey Eric! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! It's actually not that much bulky, I didn't show it for too long in the TLDR of them side by side, but the Comica is just a little taller and thinner. If you were only looking to use the wireless system as a clip on mic instead of wiring up with a Lav, then I'd say for a single Channel you may as well get the RODE unless you want the future use of the Lavs and Cables to go into smartphones. But yea, the dual channel setup is a really great value. I uploaded a new video a couple days ago where I compare 7 wireless systems that has a completely revamped audio quality test, I also show in that video how close I can match the Comica to the RODE with some EQ. Its a long video, but I got all the timecodes listed in the pinned comment so you can jump around quickly and easily to hear and see the test you want. Thanks again for stopping by! Hey hey Sarah F! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I actually have a major comparison video that takes the comica BoomXD and Blink500 as well as 5 more other systems and pit them through a slew of new audio quality tests so that people can hear how each system behaves and sounds. The video can be found here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pmhrlqSuXZqspMo.html It's a long one but I have timecodes in the pinned comment so you can jump around to the tests you want to see! You technically could plug these to a Shotgun mic like those two, however you'd need some sort of XLR to 3.5mm that has 48v of phantom power adapter before it plugs into these systsms. These systems alone do not have the power to drive a shotgun condensor mic that doesn't supply its own power either via built in battery or AA battery. So you'd need to have that ready to make it all work wirelessly. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
