Comic Protection - Size and Protection Matters
Фильм және анимация
A very special comic presentation video focusing on the importance and understanding of various comic supply sleeves and toploaders, and learning what sleeves fit into each other so you can combo them for maximum protection.
Special shoutouts to MERCENAUT and TreacherousJaywalker for their informative videos!

ONE BIG EDIT IN VIDEO ADDED IN WITH ANNOTATIONS:
NO, Mylites2 for Silver / Golden Age will NOT fit into their respective archives. Big typo on my part. Sorry :(

8 years later and this is still saving lives :) also seeing someone write lists and graphs as i did as a kid after every weekly haul brought a smile to my face. thank you and well done sir
Yeah, I'm very proud of this video and it was my goal to help those out who are trying to decide on sleeves, archives, and top loaders, since I had to learn by trial and error.
This is a great protective products comparison video! That chart is really useful. I recommend people just pause the image for quick reference. It's also neat seeing the 2-mil Mylar inside the Archival Mylar. That's probably the sharpest and smartest Mylar solution I've seen yet. One trick with that is: if you're using 2 mil Mylar with 4 Mil archival, you can pack the comic in raw (without backing board) enabling easy viewing of both the front and back of the book. Thanks for the shout-out!
Just to clarify the thickness of the various items. They are measured in "mil" and not "millimeters." One mil is .001 inch (one thousandth). So a 2 mil sleeve is .002 inches thick and a 4 mil sleeve is .004 inches thick. If a sleeve was actually 4 millimeters, it would be a over 1/8" thick (appx .158 inches). It is somewhat confusing and an easy mistake to make.

Thebig93 I'm glad you mentioned that because it definitely can be confusing for nebies. Hell, when I first bought comic protectors (after the purchase) I thought about exactly what ya said!!!
absolutely invaluable video. thank you so much! Just to double check Basically 70s and up to modern stuff should fit just fine in the Gerber Mylites 2Mil 7 1/4 x 10 1/2 and that will combine flawlessly with the BCW Golden Age Top Loader. Finally, how important do you think that microchamber paper is, especially regarding more modern comics.
Glad you liked it and I'm glad you find it useful!
Thank you, and yeah I need to start using micro chamber paper - thought I could get by without it, but I see now it's very important for those older books.
One guy fitted his comics into his top loaders with the Mylar bag but didn't use a backing board, I don't know if the toploaders were BCW but try experimenting without a backing board and see, as the toploader that the guy used was sturdy and there was no need for a backing board
Vulcan, you have ALOT of time on your hands, making that spreadsheet and all! :) I DO enjoy the show and I very much appreciate you making this video! I personally NEEDED this information before making purchases! Keep up the good work man!!!! :)
great vid, saves me alot of trouble figuring/picking out which products to get for my comics
i just figured this all out before I watched this.. Good video dude. been a whole year since someone commented. wow
Thanks for watching, and yeah, adding 2 mil Mylar with 4 mil Archives is a great idea for those who would like to save money and view the backs of their comics, since that method is pretty sturdy in itself!
if i bag and board modern comic using mylites2 can i use silver age toploaders
That was a great vid mate .. I buy my lite 4 and full backs for my comics.. They look great .. What I what to get is micro chamber paper for my comics. A great mate .
Where do you pick up top loaders and mylites for a good price though?
hey i have mylites 2 standar bags with full backs i will need a top loader silver to fit a standar comic for example aquaman new 52?
will the mylite 2 and half backs fit into a millcase? I like the look of those more then the top loaders.
Could i use Standard size Egerber half backs and Mylite 2's for current sized books? how well does it work going back into the 90's and 60's?
which one is the best for annuals or giant size comics thanks?
does a bagged modern book fit into those silver age top loaders that you have on hand? better than throwing them out
Trying to buy bcw mylar for my comics their new issues 2014 but it says standard and current does that mean it fits both just want to get a confirm answer
@vulcanman86 any way to get a copty of the spread sheet??
So I recently completed my collection of NM Neil Gaiman's Sandman and want to bag and board it properly, preferably in Mylar and with high quality boards. However there appears to be a wide supply shortage right now. I can get Mylites and full back boards but only in Golden Age size. Are there any disadvantages I should be aware of if I were to try storing modern age comics in Golden or Silver Age bags/boards as long as the backers match the bag size? Will the larger size make a difference discrepancy put my comics at risk in any way, even if the boards match the bags and are the stiffer full backs?
So if I order mylite 2 in silver/golden age and want to put it in a archive. Will it fit in a silver/golden archive or in a golden archive?
Im using E Gerber standard size and fullbacks. What size toploaders I should get from BCW?
What is the actual term for the sleeves and archives, cannot find them on amazon...
Awesome info! Is there anyway for you to email the file for that guide you printed out? Thanks!
E.Gerber now offers the Mylites 4 (wich seems to be the Milites2 in 4mm thickness) will you include these in your spreadsheet and also share it? It would be awesome to have it as a little reference and could be easy edited to also include Backing Boards and micro chamber paper.
Where did you get that reference table? I want one.
Can you post a PDF of that spreadsheet in your description?
Also keep your eye out for CGC sized boxes. (Big CGC logo on them, made by E. Gerber.) They're wide enough and tall enough to fit your CGC slabbed books and archives.
Most of my comics are from the 70s to current.I love my collection especially my Conan the Barbarian collection, all 275 of them.I have been thinking of putting all my books into Current 2 Mil Mylar bags with full back boards. and then putting them into a Silver age 4 Mil Mylar Bag with or without a full back board.Am I going too far.Your thoughts about this idea please?
I have just got more for my supplies are comic care brand magazine size backer boards and 100 polyethylene bags.
you said that the current size bag fits in the current size toploader snug/perfectly but are you using two boards there?
You gave a lot of very useful information in this video.
Any chance you could upload the chart?
I am worried about the extra size of the standard size mylites. Do the comics move around in the standard size bags?
How can I get a copy of that chart?
Do you have any info on the Mylite 4s?
What songs are you playing in the background???!
Do they have anything thinner then the 2 mil
Did you ever upload an edited version of the chart? I'd love to have one! Great work.
I'm relatively new to collecting, bare with me?! What exactly is the best set up for current comics (say walking dead). What size mylar bag (that will fit top loader) and what size top loader? Also, is a back board necessary for a comic that's placed in a bag inside of a loader? And finally what size backing board? Btw I'm looking for longevity, so what are the brands that are the best? I currently have my comics in poly bags with acid free boards, inside a acid free box. Which I'm sure is ok for the time being, but I'd like the ultimate protection and to set some up on my walls, as I've seen ppl do with top loaders. ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED!

Very helpful vid. Thanks Vulcanman.
Does it have to be a full-back in the mylite 2 for it to fit snug in the toploader or can I just use a regular backing board to fit snug in a toploader?
@Vulcanman86

You can use regular backing boards in the mylite to fit into the toploaders; however, it will be wobbly and a little loose. But if you want you could double the comics you put into it, front and back each in their own mylite and backing boards of course. This way you can make more use out of your toploaders, just depends on the books thickness.

Vulcanman86 Oh okay, do you think a bcw sliver age board would work just as well as a full back standard? I looked it up and they both the same dimension.
@Vulcanman86
9 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried BCW, but if they are the same dimension including the thickness, then it should work. :)
Mylites 1mil are better for thicker comic books like say action comics 1000. Makes it fit easier and the 4mil is too brittle
I'd love to get a copy of that spreadsheet

@Drawtensil

+IIDannyBoyII Yes. They have mylar bags for manga books too. Sized at 6 x 7 5/8. I like to keep my manga books in bags. Here's a link to get them: amzn.to/1XtUNwg
So my lites 2 and halfback will fit a new comic
Here's what I did...I got 4 mil SILVER AGE mylars from BCW, and put my book in with no backing board and two sheets of microchamber paper. Then those go inside a GOLDEN AGE toploader. It was perfect!
Nice books..wow!!
thank you✌🏿
I prefer the Archives by e.gerber 7 3/4 x 10 1/2 (775R) Silver/Golden Comics - 1950's-70's
top loaders were not meant to be used with mylites!!!
are comic book boards really necessary?
@SgtPnkks
7 жыл бұрын
with top loaders it's a bit redundant and blocks the back cover defeating one of the common uses of toploaders which is for displaying the comic
btw... this dude must make bank... share the wealth!!!!!!!!! xD
Lot of usefull info here
Standard mylite 2 Wont fit either. Use current size mylite 2 bags with top loaders. Standard ml2 use to bag silver books. Silver bags arent necessary.

ARCHIVES looks better than the TOP Loaders.
great video...i hope you enjoy my videos to
literally lasted 50 seconds and had to turn off because I was falling asleep.
Poly bags suck ass. Ill never use them again. Mylite 2 by egerber all the way
Not bad but not good. Kids have to over do everything when they finally grow a brain
25 minutes zzzZZZZzzzzzZZZZ and your missing the best boards B C W boards!
