EXACTLY what I've been looking for. We don't use our dining room so I'm making it into my office / comic / collectible display room. This is sooooo simple. The before and after at the end of the video is way better. The J-channels make it look so clean. I appreciate the measurements you provided, that will save me some time when installing them.

That was my store, too. We opened it with The Stadium. We did the comic half and they did the sports card half. After a couple years I sold the Galaxy half to The Stadium. I think he ended up selling it to the kid he had running it but I don't know for sure. I know it's been gone forever.

Unfortunately, right now, probably nowhere. Comic top-loaders have basically been out of stock from most distributors for the better part of a year. The last time we sold them they retailed for $2.50 each and now I think people are selling them on Amazon and Ebay for $5-6 each. All we can do is wait for things to get somewhat back to normal and HOPEFULLY they will become available again early next year.

Although, you're not dealing with a lot weight. You should anchor into a stud or use some kind of wall anchor. Because, you're not getting a good anchor point just screwing into drywall.

@@GalaxyComicsSaginaw the comic or the board would warp? Whats the Difference of placing your comic standing in J Channel vs Long/short box in standing position?
@GalaxyComicsSaginaw
5 жыл бұрын
@@mufasa1982 In a comic box there are other books in there and they are packed relatively tight. At least to the point they can't lean and therefore bend. With the J-channel, the books are not being held tight. There is a little bit of wiggle room. I guess if you used something like a full-back board they would be okay but with a thinner board if the book is leaning forward the book could eventually sag or bend forward over time. Maybe not. I just know that with the top loader they CAN'T bend and I personally think they look better just because the spacing is completely uniform.

I’m Doing a comic book Room using j channel is it possible to Do this without the top loader ? Or Do I have to Get top loaders ?
@GalaxyComicsSaginaw
3 жыл бұрын
You don't need top loaders. When I did it originally I just used bags and boards. I did use Mylites and halfbacks because they are a little more stiff and have the UV protection but just using bags and boards would work. Maybe use 2-3 backing boards with each book?

I cant find this J-Channel are Home depot or Lowes, even when I show them what I'm looking for they don't know what I'm talking about and they don't stock it; at least in my area in Northern San Diego County. No store, in a 100 mile radius, has this Vinyl J-Channel. :( Really wanted to do this too. I'm building a comic store and looking for ways to display comics that wont break the bank before I even open, lol. Nice shop btw.
@GalaxyComicsSaginaw

That's really odd. It should be right in the aisle with the siding stuff. It comes in 12' pieces and there should be a section where it's all standing on end. I guess ask them where the vinyl siding is and see if you can find it there. It's not rare, lol. It's the piece you need for the corner of a house when you are installing vinyl siding so any place that sells siding should sell J-channel. Good luck. :)

@@GalaxyComicsSaginaw Thank you for the reply. Yea, I asked multiple people at 2 different lowe's by me. They don't stock it anymore and I had to order it online. I suppose. But it's 100x easier to cut the plastic with a saw than a knife. And I've built dozens of shelving units out of 2x4 for this place and after a while you get tired of having to stop and recharge the battery halfway through every project. I plug in this $30 drill and I can build 50 shelves in a row without stopping.

Unfortunately, right now, probably nowhere. Comic top-loaders have basically been out of stock from most distributors for the better part of a year. The last time we sold them they retailed for $2.50 each and now I think people are selling them on Amazon and Ebay for $5-6 each. All we can do is wait for things to get somewhat back to normal and HOPEFULLY they will become available again early next year.
nice !!!
Is there a way to do this for apartment walls? I don't want to mess up the walls

I can't imagine what it would be. :/ I've always just used like 10 screws when hanging the J-channel.
couldn't you put them in horizontal and once in twist?
I was wondering if you could help me out a bit. I went to my local Home Depot but couldn't find it anywhere. What section exactly can I find it at? Thank you.

You just need to move some stuff around! That's what I did to make my first Action Figure Variant wall. :)
Where did you find the J channel?

I get it at Home Depot in the siding section. They sell it in 12' pieces.
Although, you're not dealing with a lot weight. You should anchor into a stud or use some kind of wall anchor. Because, you're not getting a good anchor point just screwing into drywall.
I'm wondering if you are just using bag and board if they start to warp over time because they are just standing by themselves.

@@GalaxyComicsSaginaw the comic or the board would warp? Whats the Difference of placing your comic standing in J Channel vs Long/short box in standing position?
@GalaxyComicsSaginaw
@GalaxyComicsSaginaw

You don't need top loaders. When I did it originally I just used bags and boards. I did use Mylites and halfbacks because they are a little more stiff and have the UV protection but just using bags and boards would work. Maybe use 2-3 backing boards with each book?

Thanks for the info! Do you happen to have the barcode numbers that Home Depot puts on everything for the 1/2” and 3/4” pieces? Can’t find it on their website and the local store would need to order. Thanks! Would be a great reference if available.

I found an alternative using aluminum J-Channel, it costs about the same but it isn't wide enough for CGC's, it fits Top Loaders perfectly tho, and I wouldn't have thought of it had I not seen your video :)
Spacer was a good idea
just use bar dividers
i don't know why, but that saw just makes me sad. lol
Display with GG! kzread.info/dash/bejne/ooikrqaomsSaYZc.html
to be honest the snap it pages dont look very good!! so i would prefer to use j-channel

If you are worried about it don't do it. I just keep the books away from windows and fluorescent lights. Some of the books I have on the back wall of the store have been up for over three years (in Mylar sleeves) with no noticeable fading.
