    there’s something about “you’re going to be amazing” that’s just so powerful. it’s simple, to the point, that even though something unknowably horrible is coming your way, something that’ll challenge you like you’ve never challenged before-you’re going to be amazing. it makes me cry every single time. i’m definitely getting this tattooed on my body.

    I always feel like griffin"s storytelling is like....I don't wanna say too good for this podcast cause the podcast is 10/10 but I feel like it deserves to be taken more seriously..? I guess? Like there's a lot of comedy but he's doing such beautiful storytelling and the boys' characters hardly react to the things going on. Maybe it's hard for them to do.

    I think people overreact to the storytelling. I mean, they're some basic drama beats and standard conflicts. great timing, but pretty normal GM stuff. compared to, like, a good book or movie? nothing

    listening to Griffin describe how knitting works is the most hilarious and infuriating thing ever. Who's just got, like, loose strings in their tunic?? What??? And just - yeah, 15 seconds, that's DEFINITELY enough time to redo a bunch of shit lol like, I'm on my 10th+ re-listen, but still, it still makes me go "that's- that's NOT how that works- that's not how ANY of this WORKS"

    TAZ always interests me, because I often wonder what is scripting and what is actual gameplay. Griffin states he isn't going to have them roll to attempt to avoid the relic's thrall, instead he wants to try and convince them; how genuine is that? Is he saying that for the sake of writing or podcasting? As players, the boys have had several deals offered to them, maybe I'm not thinking like a podcaster, but some of them I would have personally taken. The game I am currently playing in, my DM had a Demon make me an offer and I took it gladly. Does Griffin talk to them about this before they play? When making decisions does his Brothers or Dad take the podcast and stuff in to consideration? If I am being honest, I think just playing genuinely without thinking about profits, podcasts or fund drives would probably lead to better and more interesting story telling. Perhaps that's why some of the new seasons feel off. Some of them feel really, really, scripted. Steeplechase is literally a railroad-a-thon, I would have to re-listen, but I am almost positive that the player's in game actions have had no major factor in the direction of the story.

    Just because you can be charismatic with a prop doesn't ignore the coming sense of an individual. Taako did very well for the opening deception but he stumbled over defining his jurisdiction. As a clearly cautious man, as defined by his journal, he would be certain of any information given his way.

  • @operator8014

    @operator8014

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@Blitzwaffen That's the point of a bluff check. Passing it means you successfully bluffed your way past the checkpoint. He succeeded, and Grif just yoinked it away from him. If you don't want your players to bluff their way through something, then either give them REALLY high bluff checks or tell them that they can't bluff here.

  • @Blitzwaffen

    @Blitzwaffen

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@operator8014 A deception check is just how will you can pass off deceitful information as truth. A skill check cannot instantly change inherent values of character. This is a paraphrased example from the D&D 5E books: Just because a character can and does roll a high persuasion check to convince a drow to not capture and make you a slave doesn't mean they have to listen, especially so if you are a high elf. A skill check cannot override natural tendencies a race or person is known to have. In the instance with Taako he convinced the sheriff he was also with the law, but it was established that Isaac has an upbringing to be cautious of theft, fraud and rangers. Backed up by his observations of the group in the last few loops he doesn't just throw that perception away on a single new piece of information.
