Come with me for a walk through my Ramshackles concertina sketchbook

#mixedmediacollage #abstractlandscapes #concertinas #sketchbookart
Would you like to see how my first Ramshackles concertina sketchbook turned out? In this video I take you through it page by page. It may be that I go back and edit, simplify and change. I share with you what I have learnt by doing it and how it will impact on my paintings.
I have created a video that shows how I created the background on the pages for working over. You can see it here:
• How to prepare a colla...
I have shown how I work over the background in another video. You can see that here:
• Changing things up wit...
In the next few days I will be sharing my last newsletter of 2023 with my subscribers. If you would like to hear more of my approaches, get to see new work first as well as information about my courses and offers on my work and courses. You can sign up here:

@@LizAckerley ..I shall, I promise! In a series or process of building a body of work, all in b&w, with my "can't do anything without it" Payne's Gray. I've also, fallen in love with my brayer..such interesting subtle effects!

A great walk-through - I especially enjoyed your explanations of how you made the connections. They are very well done, as is the rest of it - I especially like how you did the Ramshackles, the layers and such.

A beautiful work of art. You’ve created a world. The angles of the pages really brings to life the 3 dimensionality of the buildings.

Thank you so much. Yes I think the concertina itself really helps with the 3 D and the angles too add to it.

Hello Clare, thank you so much for your comments. I am rather loving working on the ramshackles work and this sketchbook has turned out to be quite important to my paintings moving forward. I am so glad that you found it helpful.

Oh how I do love EVERYTHING about this concertina book! Because I live around a lot of farm graineries and industrial looking messes, I recently had the idea to embrace them as opposed to despising them. So I’ve begun painting and drawing and trying to capture the moods. This idea of adding collage and marks may be the answer. I love each page. Ironically, some that were your least favorite were my favorites.😊. I love your videos and wish I could pop over for a chat with my dear friend. That’s how you make me feel. Continue on!! Thank you for the inspiration ❤️😀

Hi Lori thank you so much for your generous comments. I’m so glad that you like the sketchbook and find it useful as a way of perhaps exploring the farm granaries and industrial mess. Yes it would be wonderful to chat! I am thrilled you find the videos so inspiring. Would you mind if I quoted your feedback on my website please? With best wishes Liz

Hello Kate, thank you so much for your lovely message. I think the subject of this one just lends itself to the technique. As with all things, some just work out better than others. Mostly it's hard to put a finger on why! And welcome to my channel. I am so glad that you subscribed and hope you find some interesting videos here!

Your sketchbook is beautiful! I'm so jealous. I wish I was able to do that. I just started abstract about maybe 6 months now. And I still don't get it too good. I mean, I've come a long way since I've first started, but I keep comparing myself to others and I know I shouldn't do that.

Thanks Diane but sounds like you are being way too hard on yourself. Trust me it doesn’t help! Focus on all the positives: as you say you’ve come a long way- it’s huge and it just takes time and it doesn’t stop- you’ll just keep moving forward the more you do- small steps! And please please don’t compare to others- it’s your journey - the comparison is with yourself. And you alone. Just keep going. Small steps; little and often . Sending best wishes

Love your crooked flowing buildings. Does the decay of old buildings make you sad? No one takes care of them, the weeds invade them, the weather beats them down, small animals take advantage of them... An artist eye see their textural beauty. Thank you.

Thanks Melinda I think their resilience is powerful and their dilapidated state masks a wonderful and rich history - there are stories to tell! Yes I see their textural and quirky beauty but I also see their interesting social history.

Hi, thank you! I am so glad that you enjoyed the video and seeing my work. Hopefully you are subscribed so that you don't miss videos when I release them. These aren't actually beach huts but fisherman's huts and they are in Skinningrove which is quite near to Staithes. Here is my series playlist and if you look at the videos after August 2023 they are mostly of the Ramshackles: kzread.info/head/PLnyTfaOwD3Ks2QHdXtmcLwvnaVgidEggO
