Come WALLING with me.... Top tips on dry stone walling !

Hello 👋
Welcome to Sam Shutt Farming, daily life on the Hill farm
This is Sam and Oliver plus 4 children farming beef sucklers and sheep in the North Yorkshire/Cumbria border area.
We are first-generation farmers, and we've had no help at all to get to where we are now. We are here to show you our life and what we do. I am also here to show new entrance that it is possible to start from scratch. Being strong-willed, determined, and a lot of hard work, you can do it.
We are both from farming backgrounds. I grew up on a family dairy farm. Milking from a very young age.Working for my uncle when i left school. I've learnt everything from him and grown ever since. I met Oliver when I was 16 he was 15. We started with a few sheep when we met and have built up over the 16 years to where we are now. We took on a 500-acre hill farm in 2019, currently 5 years into the tenancy.
Also, here to show people women can be useful in the agricultural world.😉😁

    It's interesting to see how the walling is done. A systematic approach is key. If the eggs were cold then probably they had been abandoned before you got there. Having a natural birth is not recommended after the C sections as, by what you have been told, it's too risky. Getting over the C Section will just have to take as long it takes. Ripping your trousers must have been caused by all that bending over doing lambing stuff. Stretched the material beyond it's limit.

  • @Sam-shutt

    @Sam-shutt

    16 күн бұрын

    Haha not stretchy enough 🤣😬 yes so it's a shame but wanted to try 1 more time, but they weren't letting me. Can't put us both at risk 🤷 pointless. Yes they were cold and in the open air so I think they weren't seen to anyway. Thanks 😄😁

    Probably better to have postponed the wall repair and left the nest until fledging. Apart from moving it the bird has been disturbed for too long.

    @@Sam-shutt If the hen was still laying the clutch, they will be cold. She then sits when the clutch is complete. Looked like Blackbird eggs, but could be a ring ouzel being up in the moorland. Blackbirds line the nest with mud. Anyway hopefully she will have time for a second clutch.

    is there no end to your talents? Nothing like a farmer for having multiple skills. As for having a caeserian, be glad of modern medicine; I had a caesarian in 1970 and couldn't even hold my baby without help for two days: two weeks in hospital and no heavy lifting for months: I'm sure you like the idea of having a baby and being back at work the next day, but be realistic; give yourself a break and take advantage of getting a rest! I think you're having a girl.
