Hoping to visit Japan first time right after new years! I plan to buy things elsewhere though, I hear many products are marked up way more in Akihabara since tourism boom. Or perhaps it was always this way?

Hi there! It's great to hear about your upcoming trip to Japan. I truly wish you the best and hope you find and buy the products you're looking for. I've also heard similar comments from my Japanese friends. They mentioned that since the tourism boom, many stores have increased their product offerings, and this trend is expected to continue over time. I would recommend considering other options besides Akihabara to buy anime stuff; you might save some money. Thanks for watching!

Hi, to be honest with you, at that time, I did not see any restrictions for recording inside. However, recently, this does not mean it is allowed everywhere. I mentioned this because of the number of stores, restaurants, and other places that have adopted photo and video recording restrictions is increasing.

Perhaps I was lucky that none of the staff members saw me. As you said, it's better to ask for permission. Maybe the person who told you not to record was just having a bad day, and you'll be allowed to record without any issues. If I have the opportunity during my next visit to Akihabara, I'll ask the GIGO staff about it.
