"Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus" by Charles Wesley
"Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus" by Charles Wesley
- The Geneva International Christian Choir Orchestra
For countless Christians around the world, “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus” signals the beginning of Advent.
Although we live in a different time than Charles Wesley, the longings of people’s hearts are just as deep. We long for security, love, relationships, meaning. To those who open themselves up to its message, this hymn identifies with that longing at the deepest levels of our existence. Where there is no longing, there can be little meaning. Hope is central to Christian experience.
And where will our longing, our hopeful waiting lead us? Where is the ultimate home of our hope? In the final line Wesley takes us there: “Raise us to thy glorious throne.”

"Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus" by Charles Wesley The United Methodist Hymnal #196 1. Come, thou long expected Jesus, born to set thy people free; from our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee. Israel's strength and consolation, hope of all the earth thou art; dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing heart. 2. Born thy people to deliver, born a child and yet a King, born to reign in us forever, now thy gracious kingdom bring. By thine own eternal spirit rule in all our hearts alone; by thine all sufficient merit, raise us to thy glorious throne. ___ Although we live in a different time than Charles Wesley, the longings of people’s hearts are just as deep. I know this is a year later, but I had the same question because this arrangement is fantastic, so I did some searching. It sounds like it might be the arrangement by Dan Goeller.
