@@hannahlorna and a question, i read it's like lot of money! I mean, in euros a year would be like 7000 (120 credits), right? I'm praying that my calculation is wrong or that I read something wrong :') I need to do the "math and physics" degree

@@ImNotJaneForest yes, that sounds about right. There are different ways of funding with the OU, so keep looking on the fees and funding page to see if you can go through any other options like grants, loans or sponsorships! 😊

@@hannahlorna another quick question, if I try the OUSBA loan, and i want a degree, and a 'pay as u go', I have to pay the amount it says in the example that it's like 300 euros, at month for module or for everything in that month, i mean, its to do the degree like a normal degree and paying that for month, or paying that for every module (in a month u do more than one module?)

Your videos and evident discipline motivated me to try to join OU from Costa Rica. Do I understand correctly, there are activities where you will have to go there, such as exams, is not all online?

That’s so lovely to hear! So for different courses there are different ways in which module results are achieved. If you look at the course you are interested in there should be information on whether you need to do an essay or actually go somewhere to take an exam, perhaps a written or spoken one or even practical. But it will be at an established OU exam centre in your country. I hope this helps :)

Hi Lorna, I am Italian and I am very interested in enrolling in the mathematics degree course at the Open University. I wanted to ask you if within the modules to be studied there are also video lessons of the topics and if the exams are written or oral (face to face). Thanks for any replies.

So there are many course types for studying mathematics with OU, but I will attach a link: www.open.ac.uk/courses/maths/degrees/bsc-mathematics-q31 Also, there will be tutorials online so where you listen to a live lecture and you will watch videos too. For the exams, it will depend on the specific module you are enrolled in but follow the link I’ve attached and have a little read through! Hope this helps 🙂

I started on a maths degree with the OU (changed to open after a couple of years but still did plenty maths modules). What I would say is that the tutorials are the best resource you will get. When you get into level 2 modules, there are videos included in your module when learning a new technique. So for example, there was a video on different methods used to solve differential equations. Then another on integration etc. So you will see examples that a tutor is talking through-these were valuable for your assignments. Exams were written form in and done in an external location (a hotel in my case) but with covid they did make an online one which in my opinion was the worst experience ever (don’t mean to put you off but we were the first ones to experience that last year - hopefully they have made changes). There was multiple choice assignments too throughout which was good for testing your knowledge cause the % towards final grade was either small or nothing. External exams seem a bit scary BUT you have heaps and heaps of practise papers so you know and expect similar questions to pop up (this obviously did not happen with the covid exam). And finally…..your best best resource for help with math modules? The student forums. I often got more help from students than tutors-not slating tutors but there are more students than tutors, so can often mean a quicker answer and there seems to always be at least 3 or 4 who are on fire with their maths knowledge and I had some of the most patient peers who would break stuff down for me. Hope that is of some help.
