Ever wondered what it would feel like to flip through a catalog in the 1950's? Well today, I am going to bring you along with me as we look at a 1950's sewing pattern catalog from the summer of 1956. This pattern catalog was specifically issued for VACATION MODE, so this holds some of the best mid-1950's summer patterns one could buy.

To be fair to Stephanie, I think yesterday I actually saw her stop and take a breath. Just one. But it happened! She's been working so much, I'm super impressed how much she's been able to put into this channel and other things.

Opera manager video yes. Life work balance important.
OMG -- page 4 Edie Adams--now I have to find the photo!. Mom made that pattern for her and I. 1960 We had moved to a huge city (30,000 vs 300) and I was seven. The fabric; a white cotton voile, with narrow green lines in both directions to form a very simple plaid but, "hanging" from the horizontal lines were 1/2- by 1/2-inch groups of green thread ends--like little tabs. I absolutely loved that dress. The fabric, the full skirt (I just had to twirl every second step, it resulted in ballet lessons) and, above all, it matched my Mom's. Now I'm crying, thinking of her. So glad you put this out. 💖💖💖💖💖💖

I found you very recently so I can still find your videos that I haven’t seen. Today I found this one. Your candor about seeking balance in your life makes me happy. I like to think the people I follow are not killing themselves to produce content. Good on you for honoring yourself and your priorities. You won’t ever regret that!
I loved this video. I only found you a few days ago. I love sewing. I use to wear dresses like this. I was just a little girl when this came out. We had to wear dresses every day to school. We only were allowed to wear pants when it was extremly cold out and had to take them off in the cloke room befor school started. My grandma sewed all my dresses. She also sewed for some of the movie stars of that day. Not fancy but just everyday stuff and school clothes for their kids. My dad said I had a dress just like Elizabeth Taylor's daughter but a diffrent color of course. Yes of course dad! I also wore those cute little baby doll Pj's. Now I have grandkids and one soon to be married. You do a great job sugar. Just don't burn out. Thanks so much for the walk down memory lane.
I'm glad you are taking your breaks and doing what you need for your family and self. I wanted to let you know that I started sewing again because of your channel. It made me feel like its ok to make mistakes and that i can still accomplish what i want.
Welcome back. Your old video would be nice to watch. I am here for your personality.
work 👏🏻 life 👏🏻 balance 👏🏻 comes 👏🏻first👏🏻! believe me when i say that most of us would rather see you doing well, and have the occasional video, than have you churning out content but absolutely miserable. i think a lot of the fun in watching your videos is seeing how much fun you’re having, and it doesn’t make sense (for either you or your content) to take the joy out of creating. that said, i would totally be down for a behind-the-scenes opera vlog, and for more of these magazine flip throughs (either livestream or edited). Bianca from The Closet Historian does a few of these as well and it would be really fun to hear your takes on these kinds of materials. also sometimes we just want to hear someone natter on about something in a more casual way. granted, i *am* also the kind of person who will totally put on an hour-long video of someone sorting through patterns and doing more boring business organisational stuff (it’s nice to have ‘company’ and chill videos are good too)… but i think we all need to decompress more and more nowadays and these sorts of videos are perfect for that.
I love how you do your shorts. The first one I saw was so perfectly seamless from end to beginning I had to watch it again. I would love to see a behind the scenes video of your job. Take care of yourself and we'll be here.
Stephanie, you keep doing what you need to do. Your audience will still be here. You have always been a breath of fresh air and if that breeze comes only once a month, so be it. It will be worth the wait 👍💙

Definitely would love to see behind the scenes of the day job! Also, I'm hoping that being busy in your day to day life is a GOOD thing. I'll rewatch your old videos until new ones come up.
Working from home sick today and WOWZA this video was exactly the relaxing fashion content that my brain needed.
Well KZread in its infinite wisdom decided to hide this video until today! I absolutely love pattern book/magazine walk throughs with comments about what you're seeing - style lines/fabric choice/construction details. The Closet Historian does these occasionally and they are such an inspiration. I've been looking for Butterick 8065 which very similar to that 3662 - no joy on either here in the UK so pattern smashing/drafting is probably going to ensue!
I look at whatever you put out on the youtube. Maby not shorts, but otherwise everything. AND I CAN WAIT FOR YOUR CONTENT. Remember that.
I just saw this video Stephanie and I am so very excited for you and your job. I will be here and like you my love is the vintage patterns you aquire and show and sell . I do love watching you make them but job family then us. I pray you have a fantastic work year beautiful lady.
I would find a day in the life of an opera stage manager interesting :)
I inherited my mom's collection of McCall's Needlework & Crafts magazines, from1949 through the 1980s. They're in storage right now, but the layout, art, and even some ads from this pattern magazine are the same ...

Sorry I missed this when it came out. I want to say, Thank you. I also want to say I really miss you and you wonderful shenanigans, but I do understand. Please don't over stretch yourself. Do videos when and if you can. Don't stress. (easier said, I know). I can hardly wait for your next sewing video, but I also enjoy you just chatting. It all works. Thank you again.
I think it would be fun looking through your cabinets of "for sale" patterns with you (much like this looking through the magazine)
You take care of you and your family. We’ll be here when you get a minute to pop in! I like your less edited videos as well.
I just realised, that i was not subcribed . Even though I am always happy to see a new video of yours - so, apologies for that. That being said, I am sure all of us agree that, It's great that you strive for more of a balanced life style now, we all need it. And it can be especially tricky, when your hobby and job get mixed into one. And don't worry about us - We will patently wait for a new video, and be glad that you take care of yourself. So don't stress about posting too often. And yes, I would very much like to see a video about your job! Over all I am very glad that you talk so much about patterns, I learned a lot and was always very entertained! Good thing you didn't stay behind the scenes!

VINTAGE CLOTHES --- YES!!!!!
Y'know, most KZreadrs are around your channel size, statistically speaking. You're a lot closer to the typical KZreadr than you think. Especially now you have a sponsored video! Go you! That must feel like a lovely milestone 💜 Now that most people are getting back to a more typical routine after all the lockdowns etc, I'm seeing this pattern pop up amongst the channels I watch. Your audience are real people with all sorts of lives, too - odds are good we're going to understand that a full time job and a high YT output aren't compatible. Also, the chill, flip through a catalogue videos are nice to watch, it's a nice escape from whatever reality is throwing at us at the moment. If that's what you got right now, it's not nothing, y'know? If you're wanting to hang out with us more but the editing burden is too much, have you thought about doing a chill livestream where you flip through a catalogue, or do a Q&A while checking your shop patterns, or something else I haven't thought of? But! Only if you want to! If you don't have the mental bandwidth, then don't! We'll still be here, enjoying what you can share. Are you still able to TikTok etc casually, as Stephanie Canada the person, or is it Work now, and you're Stephanie Canada the Vintage YT Lady? If TikTok brings you joy, see if you can find a way to be yourself there, even if it means having a personal account separate from the one connected to your channel.
Congratulations on your new job. It's totally understandable why you MIA. Don't worry, we are Here when you have time.

Glad to see you’re doing well (all be it busy). Lovely video, I really enjoyed the crisp sound of the page turning. Btw would love to see you “day in the life at work” type video. I bought my first vintage aprons this week. Wasn’t looking to but something caught my eye at the thrift store. It was an orange and white gingham shirt apron (no bib) the maker hand embroidered a simple snowflake like pattern on some of the white squares creating a sort of boarder print on the lower half, as well as the pocket. No stains and no price tag. I asked… “a dollar?”… heck yeh I grabbed that for just $1! Someone made, used, and loved this, now I get to too. ^^
I for 1 watch your channel for you. Your personality is why I rewatch. And congratulations on the sponsor I'll go check them out

There really is no work life balance when you work certain jobs. For me I worked in food service. I wasn’t aware the arts required an stage manager to work so much. So I learned something. All you can do is the best you can do. Being a mom with a family and a busy job, it’s always chaotic. So don’t grasp so hard for that work life balance until you go crazy. Just roll with it and take whatever time you can and make the best of it. My kids are grown. Yes, there are many things I would have changed. But at that time I was thinking about survival and getting my kids what they needed. I’m absolutely sure you’re doing great. As much as I love your videos, I would rather you go be with your family and make all the happy memories with them before you make a video.

Kiddo? I'm coming to this video 15 hrs after launch. There are currently 120 comments and 1.4K view. You are a real You Tube-er. Those are flippin' amazing numbers. Take a victory lap. Plus, you're now in sponsorship land - he,hee. The sponsor sounds fun... {and yes, it's cold in Canuk-land, but also slushy, and I can hear the snowplows working the road outside our apartment building - sigh} - Split the repro v. vintage video into a two part-er. Post the comparison, finish off with a breathless outro straight out of the golden days of radio. Done and dusted. - The wiggle dresses are ah-maze-ing. I don't think I've seen such tightly fitted bolero jackets. The mock-ups will be a nightmare, but so worth it. - "Day in the Life" would be amazing. Yes. Do it. Please and thankyou. You could also do a separate tour of the costumes department... (OMG the costume shop at the Stratford Festival...). - Six day weeks are the absolute worst. Congratulations on still remembering your name and home address... Hope the workflow evens out to something a little less... rushed. I'm right there with you for being hopeful for 2023 (and now I just need to pause to knock some particle board). May it bring you and yours everything you need. Right now I'm working on a 1951 weskit for the Foundations Revealed competition. I'm in process of soft-sculpture-ing fish into the various panels, to be followed by machine stitching the water. I'm naming it after my favorite in-city fishing spot. Hopefully it doesn't look completely dork-y. - Cathy (&. accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

I really APPRECIATE this current video where you are letting us view this old McCall's pattern catalog. This is not something I would buy at the antique store (if I saw it) but its REALLY COOL to look through it. I see outfits that my aunt (currently age 84) and my Mom (currently age 92) would've worn and I'm going to make sure they see this video so they can look at the outfits and sigh with longing and pleasure. My aunt especially wore outfits like some of these in her youth. So keep on doing what you can do, when you can, Steph-ers. We will wait for your next project!
