I have 250,000, in CD's over a couple of banks that pay5% interest and mature in a year when I will find more CD's to continue my investments. For the past few years I get more interest in a 100% safe investment. Even at 4% interest it beats most dividend stocks. Do you ever invest in CD's?

Yes, I have a few CD's and I have cash in money market accounts that yield about 4%. It is nice to earn a good interest rate again. 3 years ago interest rates paid were near 0.

If safe, reasonable returns are your goal, the answer is Bonds.. buy a bond ladder (bonds that mature at different dates).If you are unaware (as many people are), there is a resale market on bonds. As rates drop, the price of the bond increases. You are paid a rate comparable to CDs, but we can be reasonably certain that rates will drop, increasing the value of the bond. In the meantime, you collect the yield as you would with a CD. If rates go up further, you are already satisfied with the rate of return that you are earning and you simply hold the later maturing bonds and buy new ones with the proceeds from the mature bonds. As a note, the increase in value of the bond can be significant. If the rates are dropped 50% over the next 2-3 years, you are likely to be looking at a 30% gain.. while having collected over 4% in the interim. I’d say, better than a CD and safe as a CD (assuming you buy treasury “paper”) without early withdrawal penalty. Not financial advice. Just repeating what a friend may have said.

I’m liking your channel. Comcast has been on the radar. It may be time to allocate some funds. As a side note, I’m a Comcast slave and would be particularly happy to have their dividend supplement my bill.
