The stock market is one of the few places where when things are bad people will say I told you so, when things are good everyone wants to tell you they’re about to get worse and decades later those who just didn’t care and stayed invested regardless are perfectly happy with their gains lol That coupled with the fact if you had your money out of the market on the top 1% of trading days over the past 40 years you would have made a negative return gives enough reason to say in the grand scheme of things nobody knows and it doesn’t matter.

Cathy Woods has certainly made more money than I and continues to do so. Her ARK funds mostly have a mission to invest in innovation/ disruption. To that end, she does not seemingly interest herself in financials. She wants to hit grand slams by, essentially, being a seed investor. Private equity investors have up to a 90% failure rate on their investments. The returns on winners are remarkable. That’s what you sign up for. She invested in TSLA, Bitcoin, NVDA very early and made outrageous returns. Most of the companies I’ve followed in her funds fail horribly, but when you’re making a 100x return on a large portion of the portfolio, that covers a lot of mistakes. Her style is poorly suited to high interest rates. Did you notice that her funds surge when the market thinks there will be a rate cut? I won’t attempt to defend all of her moves. She navigated the market downturn horrendously, but her style was never meant to work under those circumstances. If you were an investor and held, that was your mistake. Revisit judgement on her funds by what would happen if you invest now and wait for 5 years or so after rates drop.

@@victorhinvesting To be clear, I’m not a big Cathy fan. I just realize she’s far more successful than I, and she has an approach that seems highly misunderstood, IMO. She sticks to her method. The investor has to read between the lines to grasp what that is and decide if they are willing to partake. I’m still not buying. I’m just not counting her out.

They are producing their own LL and Ai database. That is power. Also the combo of Ai and actual humans will always have customers because people need other people at some point. Cut and paste won’t reach you everything. I believe this is way undervalued. They do need to improvise and improve their app. Market themselves as “safe Ai for students”. Haven’t looked at SMCI in a while. I remember thinking about buying puts at 1200, but then thought “you’re crazy.. you know they can outlast your timeline!” I don’t want to rehash it so much. I will say this, I’ve scooped up a bit of FMC because their price crashed due to overinflated inventories. Completely different industry for sure, but FMC is a far more seasoned company. If they can grossly overestimate demand, I’m relatively certain SMCI can. HOWEVER, the argument that “companies have been using AI for a long time” doesn’t hold water. Just because I was learning OOP (object oriented programming, designed to program AI) in the mid 90s, does not mean that companies were spending reckless amounts of money on it. They are now. The technology is catching up to the promise. I feel we really are witnessing something revolutionary. Sitting on the sidelines may not “hurt” you, but it will leave you with an “AI leader” shaped hole in your portfolio. I don’t know who the next winner will be, but I know there will be one and more. Failure to buy because “it’s too high” or “it’s going to crash” will leave you wishing you had taken a chance. My advice, pick some companies. Buy small. Set a stop loss. Move it up at a convenient time. Then, hope for the best. At least you tried! I’d rather go down swinging. Throw a jab out there in an attempt to set up a combination. There is room in my portfolio for speculative plays, and as they say, “scared money doesn’t make money.”.

I'll start by saying that since I started using GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT a year ago, my productivity has probably doubled. Sure, they're basically supercharged chatbots (worth mentioning that natural language processing was very hard until 3-4 years ago, e.g. Alexa and Siri), but we're still in the early stages. If big tech is right (that more compute equals better models), we might just be at the dawn of a "revolution." Of course, this could all end up like the big data "revolution," where companies like Under Armour spent $500M on MyFitnessPal claiming, "once we have data, magic will happen." Only time will tell. BTW, thanks for your videos, Victor. I really enjoy the content.

Interesting, margin interest is a major reason I don’t short shares for long term trades. I generally reserve shorting for daytrading. I assumed that since the short immediately went onto my margin account, there would be interest on anything held for a day or longer. I’ll check into how it would be calculated if I covered it with cash and how (or if) that affects my margin buying power for day trades.
