COMBI Boiler Heat Exchanger - BAXI Main Eco 30 - How To Replace Plate Heat Exchanger

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to replace a BAXI Combi boiler plate Heat Exchanger. BAXI Main Eco 30. The symptoms were the pressure keeps filling in the heating system and then spitting water out on overflow copper pipe which means the pressure relief valve. The part used is a BAXI original part which was the 16 plate heat exchanger. This is on a pressurised system. #Baxi #heatexchanger #plateheatexchanger

    great video, hopefully this will solve my problem, every so often my boiler(main 30) , if left over night without any use the boiler will not fire up, no heating or hot water, so will try this, thanks again

    Thanks for this have just successfully changed mine and have nice hot water again. However, when removing I couldn’t find any rubber washers and couldn’t fathom how to replace with new ones? I can’t see at the back either when doing it. It’s on and no leaks so will the okd washers just be sitting flat to the pipework or something?

    Hi Wayne, thanks for watching. I'm glad the video was useful for you and helped you out. Yes the rubber can stick to valve end due to heat, it should be fine and still be a good seal as they are thick. As long as you check for leaks once connected up and tested once cover is on. You can also see for any leaks from underneath boiler if there is any. But you will be fine. Cheers handy Singh

    Thanks for the video nice and clear showing how to sort it, It looks like a easy job to do 🙂 I have the same boiler and the temperature is unstable at times when using the shower, ive also had the water pressure rising into the red when we use the heating ( have a wood burner so its rare we use the combi heating much ) and the temperature gauge on the boiler when its not being used will keep fluctuating at times from like 54-58 👀 Is any of them symptoms likely to be related to the heat exchanger issue ?

    Hi David, I'm glad you found this video useful. Yes your boiler symptoms sound more like a expansion vessel failure and also potentially a temperature sensor gone. What is the pressure of boiler when the heating is off and cooled down?, as it should between 1 bar or 1.5 bar recommend. Thanks.

    @@handySingh Thanks for the reply back much appreciated and the pressure when not in use is as you say 1-1.5 basically that zone where its meant to be in the triangle. I swapped over the expansion vessel just before covid but maybe its gone again.

    i have the same boiler but my issue is heating works fine but hot water from taps goes hot and cold and sometimes stays cold unless i open another tap in the house then it warms up, any ideas what it could be ?

    Hi Steve, thanks for watching the video. You know your tap that gets cold would you say that is further away in terms of pipe work is comparison to the one that warms up? Also how is the hot water when the heating hasn't been on? Cheers Handy Singh

    In my bathroom, when I open the bath tap, the water always stays luke warm, and in my kitchen tap, the water is very hot. Does this heat exchanger cause these symptoms as I already ordered one? Or is the problem somewhere else?

  • @handySingh

    @handySingh

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Sat, the kitchen tap is normally downstairs and probably the closest to the boiler feed hot water pipe. When the central heating is on don't forget this will Hest the exchanger plate and also divertor valve and the initial surge flow to hot water will initially be extremely hot and then gradually as the pumps flows it will start to cool the water down to regulation set temperature on your boiler that you have selected. The Heat exchanger in mine instance in the video is that there was an internal leak and cold water kept going to heating system return pipe and hence boiler pressure kept increasing and spitting the water out via pressure relief valve. Is your pressure level steady and maintained?

    Hi. Is this the main heat exchanger? Is it the same as the potterton titanium 28? I’m asking because the diagram of the inside of the boiler points to the big Circular disc at the back and says that’s the heat exchanger. I’m confused as to what is what? And how long the job takes? Any help would be much appreciated. Kind regards

  • @handySingh

    @handySingh

    Hi Marley, it's not the main heat combustion heat exchanger. This is the heat plate exchanger which is different as this transfers heat between 2 fluids...i.e hot water and heating pipes to save energy. The job is very easy to do and should take no longer than 1 hour if you follow the same steps as the video. Hope it helps mate. Cheers Handy Singh

    My boiler is sending hot water to radiators when heating isnt switched on. Even at night when no taps are being used/thermostat set low, the boiler can be heard running and radiators warm. Could this be heat exchanger or diverter valve?

  • @handySingh

    Hi J Singh, sounds more like the boiler is calling for heat constantly which can be either a thermostat fault or if you have a motorised valves for a zone, this could potentially be faulty. Did you get this fixed? Cheers

    What were the symptoms on this job thst made you change the plate heat exchanger? Rising pressure over time? Also how come i cant see the filling loop but you are managing to fill the system : )

  • @handySingh

    @handySingh

    6 ай бұрын

    Hi mate, the pressure was increasing if when everything was off..the cold water main was leaking into heating system as there was a small pin hole in heat plate. The filling loop on this I fitted internally at the bottom of the actual boiler. Most boiler have this option but you need to buy the part in some instances. Makes it look alot neater and easier to use..can fill without taking cover as you just look underneath a turn it. Hope this helps 🙏 cheers Handy Singh
