    Fortunately, most people (even soldiers) will never have to fight another person in blade vs blade combat but I heard that based on historical knife fights, the guy that is quicker almost always wins (if he survives, sometimes both men die). So, the best fighting knife would be nimble, lightweight, and deadly.

  • @DonnieBAllDay

    @DonnieBAllDay

    8 ай бұрын

    Too light reduces power. In a slash, a light knife might not get through things like leather or denim. It definitely won't help against bear skin. Think of the blades that were used when knife fighting was a common occurrence. Bowies, Seax's and Kukri's.all heavy blades made to be able to get through what's protecting the vitals

  • @BigDaddySwingingMeat

    @@DonnieBAllDay I was talking about the sort of knife fights that occurred in Jim Bowie's day, not as far back as the middle ages or dark ages. The closest modern fighting bowies to the ones that knife fighters actually used back then resembled Bill Bagwell's famous "Hell's Belle" Bowie that he modeled after fighting blades of the era. They were long, slim, and nimble. Typically, between 16-19 inches in length and perfectly balanced with a distal taper. The distal taper is CRUCIAL to a fighting bowie. These types of bowies could slash, slice, and stab equally well. They could also easily slip between the rib cage to pierce the vital organ of an opponent while having enough weight to literally slice a man's hand off. They took their fighting blades more seriously back then because they were far more likely to be in a genuine knife fight than people today.

    I've been wanting to do a video about the different classes of knives and this video of yours may give me motivation to actually do it. Here's a can-o-worms for you to ponder: is there any difference between a fighting knife, a combat knife, and a "tactical' knife other than just terminology?

    tactical just refers to the type of combat knife. A combat knife doesn't have to be subdued, but tactical does. Strategic operations knives, from what I've seen, are somewhat of a mix and generally are multi functioning.

    Maybe we need different terminology? That TRS Titan looks very similar to the FS Commando Dagger and many others. Maybe these style of knives could be classified as dispatch knives, assassination knives, sentry removal knives or something like that. The Dbad Preacher is maybe more of a duelling knife. I think the only element missing from this series is what kind of monsters would use a knife offensively and what options the common man has to defend. There's a lot to think about for something that could happen so fast. I may do a VR on this. I'm not proud to say but I've had those types of monsters in my company. There's a few recent news stories of folks using blades I may bring up.
