    I replaced the starter relay and ignition switch a few months ago. Then last week my car did it again, wouldn't start, I was at harbor freight this time. After fiddling around for ten minutes it started. I went home, ohmed my key 11.80k (#15), watched your video, ordered resistors, soldered a pair together that equal 11.90k ohms, and put heat shrink on it and will install it at the ignition switch tomorrow, Thanks.     I changed my mind and installed the resistor at the BCM in the pass side footwell. then I went to a local old school hardware store and picked out a blank GM 2 sided no resistor pellet key and had both sides cut to match my only original key. Got home and my new to me no pellet resistor key works great.

    Great review and info. One other thing to mention is the Vat pellet can get dirty or gummed up, depending on where one keeps their keys. A little alcohol on a q-tip to clean the pellet has solved reading issues for some. GM installed a Steering Column Lock mechanism on all 1997 - 2004 manual (MN6) cars and on 1997 to 2000 automatic (A4) cars. The 2001-2004 A-4 cars did not recieve the locking mechanism. However, one of my MN6 C5s had the locking plate removed and the error message would still pop-up here and there. So it may be likely that the 2001-2004 A-4 cars could experience this very same occurrence. (I'm not certain though. My C5's were all MN6's.) Therefore in my opinion....all C5 owners should do the LMC5 and brown wire mod. It's a $50 insurance policy. Even of you had the column locking plate removed by the dealer....or your car dudnt come equiped with the plate to begin with..

    In the early 2000s, one of the secretarys at work was given a new C5 by her fiance! More than a few times, I found her out in the parking lot, either not being able to enter her Vette because the door lock didn't recognize the resistor on the key or the engine wouldn't start for the same reason!

    Bought my 98 in 02. About 6 months later I got the column lock message and the column would not.release. Pulled one of the fuses under the hood (don't remember the fuses number) and reinserted. The error cleared and the column released. I took it to the dealer for the recall. They did a reprogram and modded the lock linkage. The column no longer locks but I now have 258K miles with no more errors. My buddy has an 03 that had one of the VATS contact prongs pull out of the ignition switch when he pulled the key. It was 2 days before Bloomington Gold so we were in a hurry to get it fixed. I measure the resistance on his key chip, picked up a resistor at a local electronics shop for a few cents and soldered it in. 8 years later it's still going.

    WOW, DOIN'T REMEMBER THE FUSE NUMBER. DIDN'T U THINK THIS MAY REAR IT'S UGLY HEAD AGAIN? AFTER ALL OF THIS TIME WHY NOT RETRACE UR FOOT STEPS & REPOST THE FUSE NUMBER OR U SHOUD HAVE WROTE THE FUSE NUMBER DWN FOR FUTURE REF.

    I’ve been getting the “pull key wait 10 seconds” shit lately. I disabled VATS in HPTuners but we’ll see if it needs anything else to completely disable it. I installed the LMC5 module over the winter.

    After u put the resistance in on plug . Do you need to plug it back in or are u good letting it be. I have the remove key wait 10 seconds

    I’ve had my 03 C5 since September of 2020. It had 50,000 miles at purchase. It now has 59,600 and the only time I will get the “pull key wait 10 sec” is when the weather is cold outside like 50 and below and it only does it on cold startup. I have plenty of voltage via a brand new Optima Red top which I installed a week after buying the car. I purchased the LMC5 but haven’t installed it yet mainly b/c the column lock has never given an issue.

    It’s not a matter of if...it’s a matter of when. I’ve had 3 C5s. One for 21 years. One for 15 and the other for 6. The issue will occur, and at the least opportune moments, like when you are far from home. Do yourself the favor and spend the 15 minutes now, so you don’t spend hours waiting on a tow.

    Post script...leave your C5 on a tender when not driven and especially on cold nights. Even more important when running a red top battery,

    Have u run into anyone have issues with stalling on take off after doing all these mods to fix the starting issue.? Lmc5 mod and brown wire done. Starts great the when u go to back up to move forward it's like the ignition shut off but the car can be fired right back up.

    Drove a 1999 today and it has the lock bypass in footwell, I was leaving dealer and got the wait ten seconds pull key. I noticed its like the car doesnt read the key because only sometimes it does the memory seat settings, also cant keep key fob programmed to unlock doors.

    I did the Column lock bypass the day I bought the car back in 2011 After reading so much about the problem. so if you wire in that resistor if you have the other problem which I haven’t had yet will the car read the resistor in the key also so now it’s two resistors in series? Do you have to remove the resistor from your current key? Keep up the good work with the videos. Thanks. By the way I saw a 2003 yellow z06 with only 13,000 miles on it this morning at cars and coffee in Connecticut!!

    Hi I did the mod I am getting the column lock message still an did the brown wire also I never got the 10 sec message I went a got the push button start just like you will this help the problem or not let me know thanks

    I had them pull the key 10 sec problem after I first bought my c5. It came with like 5 diffrent keys lol previous owner must of been having the same problem. I had to do the brown wire on the lm5 kit or whatever it was called.

    I had the pull key and wait msg once… I waited the 10secs, put key back in and no issues. As of 3/33/24 column lock came on today while driving… no issues, but not taking any chances.

    So I got a c5 a bout 1 year and a half ago and I got the Column lock message maybe 3 months in of owning so I went to put the lcm5 on it and notice it already had 1 and I swapped anyways and I didn’t have the problem any more and just today I notice the message is back do you think I should just replace it again or do you know what might b going on I would like to save some money and keep the same lcm5 but if not i don’t mind changing it again if I have to let me know if you have any recommendations thank you 🙏

    Hello, I have a problem with my automatic C5, it starts fine but when I put D and press the accelerator, it turns off, the engine dies, it won't let me move the C5 more than 2 miles.

    My car a 2000 had a cutting out issue then no restart The mechanic diagnose and replace the ignition switch that took care of that problem now it runs fine when I shut it off and go to restart moves forward or back 10 feet or so and dies I pull the key wait 10 seconds and put it back in everything is running fine I have no codes or messages on the dash the mechanic tried to bypass and it did not work I do have the LMC five not sure if that’s what it meansAny advice would be helpful

    I have a 2003 z06 25000 miles with non of the 3 errors you mention on the video ,and I’m getting the Lmc5 ! You think I need to install the one for the 10 second waiting?

    It’s called the “brown wire mod”. It is 100% recommend that you do this mod when you do the LMC5 mod. It’s in the kit and you are already in the fuse panel. Doing both with eliminate the “wait 10 seconds/ pull key” issue.

    I already have the vets bypass done. I have a push button start a drained my battery dead. I had to get a new battery. Now I'm getting the pole key error and I can't drive my car. I don't know what the hell to do. Can anyone help?

    LMC5 module needs to be installed in the passenger foot well & After it's installed you MAY have to do the brown wire mod. ( I did). Hopefully this helps 😬

    Oh weird. Have a Z we don't have a telescoping wheel. But I am not sure how it would disable that feature. I'll look into that.

    Did it "kill" your telescoping feature or do you just need to reset the telescoping feature? Did you try to reset it? 1)Turn the ignition to the "ON" position but with the engine not running 2) Tap the telescoping button 8 times in the "inward" position then hold the button in the INWARD position for 5 seconds 3) Tap the telescoping button 8 times in the "outward" position then hold the button in the OUTWARD position for 5 seconds.
