I filed the hammer face and removed every sharp edge and that helped eliminate the cap jams quite a bit o my 1851 and 1860
I love my 1851 navy colt. I’ve finally got all the resources and tools I needed to service the gun
Dustin would you please do a show or even a small series on how cap and ball accessories etc were carried by cowboy's, gun fighters and others on the frontier. I'm talking about loading supplies, cleaning and the like.
I love the new cappers,along with the paper cartridge kits.Not to mention excellent customer service and fast shipping. Thank you very much

Thank you!
I love that you don’t edit out the idiosyncrasies of these guns. All part of the fun. I just put Kirst Konversion cylinders on two of my ‘61 Navies. That was a little nerve racking, going at them with a dremel. But they came out really nice.👍🏻
The 1851 cylinder has the Battle of Campeche motif fought by the Texas Navy. The Texas military forces had bought so many Colts that it was an homage to them. Also, the Navy was originally called the "Ranger size" because of the Texas Rangers.
Our most famous Aussie bushranger had one. Thanks mate
Oh man....the grains on the grip of that 61🤩
I have a 1851 Connecticut Valley Arms Inc that my father put together as a kit he ordered. He's had it since the mid 80's give or take and probably hasn't been fired since then. Thank you for the video showing me how to correctly load and fire the weapon. Any advice or questions you have, or commenters have is highly welcomed. I'm going to get out and fire this thing one of these days.
I like both, but I have to agree with you the 51 is my favorite as well.
A classic gun, ages like fine wine
Beautiful revolvers!
Love my 51 and my 61 but I think I love my 58 Remington new model navy more
I love my two 1851 Navy revolvers as well. Mine are both Piettas. One is chambered in .36 caliber and the other is chambered in .44 caliber (not an historical caliber, but still awesome). Love them both equally. Having the same caliber comes in handy when I take my Pietta .44 caliber 1860 Army and Pietta .44 caliber 1858 Remington to the range and I do not have enough .36 caliber ammunition available in my area. The fit and finish of my Piettas are pretty good and I think Pietta has come a long way in their quality. Also love your 12 cap cappers and paper cartridge formers. They are great products. Saves much time on the range. I also found a way to make blank cartridges out of them too for performances. I very rarely have cap jams or misfires with my Piettas using both Remington and CCI caps. I agree with you about the Pietta engraving. I wish they did it under the loading lever like Uberti does too. Love your videos! Keep up the great work!
The cap jam issue is the main reason I don't use Colt reproductions.

Gorgeous guns Dustin, I agree with you that I like the styling of the 1851 over the 1861. I’m looking into getting a 1860 here in the near future to add to my collection.
Another great video.
I love my Uberti 1861 Navy. My only issue is frequent misfires. The spring is probably too weak, as I have tested different brands of caps in this revolver as well as in another one where there was no issue. I will need to work on it. Perhaps I can try using two springs at once.
I keep an Uberti 1851 for winter carry under a duster. For spring and summer I install an 1861 barrel cut down to 5.5” and it makes the gun carry like a slimmer version of a Peacemaker. I don’t know what it is about shooting a .36, but I can seem to hit whatever I want out to 20 yards.
Hold them side by side and take a look i did with Colt Replicas, i picked 51, but i have both.
I love the Navy Colt design. Had an old pietta 1851 cartridge converted last year. Got a Uberti Cimarron 1861 (like yours) last month at Texas Jacks in Fredericksburg, TX.

That's the same place I got my 61 Navy and yes cimarron's are real pretty
Siempre he considerado el '51 como el revólver más bonito jamás fabricado, y me alegra que tu pienses en la misma dirección.
I just got the same 1851 London, I’ve got a decent collection of guns but that one instantly became my favorite and the best looking

It really is a beautiful revolver! Thanks for watching!
I love my '51 Navy, but recently developed an interest in purchasing a '61. As it more closely resembles my '60 Army.
The 1851 navy is my favorite also.
I have one of the 3rd reissue Colt 1861.
Love the round barrel and smooth contours of my Uberti 61 but both are great guns. I’m wondering if the slix nipples really hold the caps better.

I’m sure they would. I just haven’t bought them for these two guns yet.
I love the 1851 Navy. I have a pietta 44 cal but my next purchase will be the 51 Navy London. I think that is such a beautiful design. You mention the conical bullets molds. Do you do your own bullet casting? If so have you thought about doing a video on your casting process?
@GunsOfTheWest

I cast my own. I had some casting videos, but KZread took them down. You can still see them on the Guns of the West Rumble channel.
I absolutely love my 1851 navy london! Some day i want to get a second one. The 1861 navy is a very pretty revolver, i just wish they wouldn't make them with the cutout for the shoulder stock. The replica stocks are expensive, hard to find, and poor quality from what I have heard. Plus the cutout is a bit of an eye sore in my opinion. Glad the 51 London doesn't have it! Great video Dustin!
Would you like to see a 1st gen london?
Great video as always. One note, I’ve never had any problems loading paper cartridges into my 1860 Army 2nd generation Colt. Also no problem with Uberti 1860 Army. My understanding is that Pietta’s 1860s do require modification to load paper.

Right, the Colts are fine, but most reproductions of that one need modification.
To me the Remington is a much nicer looking revolver, although I am in the UK I still enjoy watching Old West guns in action.
When it comes to aesthetics, I definitely prefer the London navy over the '61 (as well as the regular brass trigger guard '51s)

Which gun was the pistol at the beginning of Outlaw Jose Wales when he pulled it from his burnt-down home?
Very interesting ! Beautiful revolvers. What is the difference between a black powder revolver and a cap and ball ? Many thanks.

They’re the same thing.
I think the 51 is a better looking revolver as well. Just something about those squared off lines. I do love my 1860 but the 51 is my baby.
Que bacana 👏👏👍😄😄🇧🇷🇧🇷
Who makes a great or the best non firing replica? I wish I could afford a reproduction but I can’t. I would like a Navy and Army set for my office.
Curious if you’ve ever shot a Ruger Old Army! As a black powder shooter I’m sure you’d love it, even if it’s a bit too modern to fit in the old west ;)

Can’t go wrong that way! Thanks for watching!
My pinky finger always hangs low on my 51 navy. I obviously have learned to compensate for the discomfort. But I was wondering what I could do outside of somehow buying a longer grip? Is there a shooting technique that evolves the pinky hanging low?
@jonleonard8883
7 ай бұрын
Wrap your pinky around the bottom of the grip and it should force you to grip it a little higher making it point more naturally

You could fit an 1860 model back strap and trigger guard .
Do you have modify a remington new model army 44 for conicals?
@GunsOfTheWest

No, but the rammer will blunt the bullets. It’s not as concave as the one on the Colts.

were can I buy a colt 1861 navy?😅🤨🤔
My Tastes go back and forth between the 51 and 61. I like them both. Lately i have felt the dragoon. Especially the whitneyville is the best looking colt.

are the slix shot nipples worth the cost? thanks for your work and video! well done

In my experience, they are.
I was wondering, why did cartridges get jammed, and why did you have to wait before trying to fire immediately after the jam?
@GunsOfTheWest
4 ай бұрын
When one of the percussion caps fails to fire, it’s good to wait before taking the gun off target, just in case it’s a hang fire. (Delayed fire.)

@@GunsOfTheWest Oh! Wow. Super cool. Thanks!
No criticism of the 1851 Colt Navy, but the 1861 is just a little more "elegant" looking to my eyes.
What is the weight difference between the two?
@GunsOfTheWest
5 ай бұрын
I haven’t compared that, but it can’t be much. They have a lot of the same parts and the same barrel length. I’ll check though and post a short about it.
Yoooo I made it early :D
I don't even try shooting a colt repro without putting slix shot nipples on it
Its Colt 36 navy 🤪👍😇
This is the dude from toy story 2 he just moved to the south.

I actually don’t live in the south; I live in the west. I moved the whole Toy Barn out here after taking Woody from that yard sale. I don’t blame you for not knowing that though because the movie got it very wrong.
Hm. Were you using Slix Shot nipples on either of those?
@GunsOfTheWest

No, I haven’t bought them for these two yet.
I will shoot my 51 over the 61 every time . I will shoot my original 1860 over all of my Cap Guns most of the time
