I have a very similar rifle but it's a Match Target/ Target rifle. Mine also has the cut bolt with no detent. My barrel is dated 9/97. I picked it up a few years ago. It was a safe queen. I'm back and forth on threading the barrel. Think I'm going to do it. Looks kinda naked without the birdcage 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I decided to install a real A2 barrel instead of having it threaded. Got me the bayonet lug, too. But, I still think it's a good idea, if you decide to.

@@MaverickTangent I've thought about that route also. This barrel shoots quite well. I'll probably have it threaded and purchase an FN if I can find one

I think the brake was added on by a former owner...I dont believe it came from colt with that. I ordered 2 from colt during the William Jefferson Clinton days. Competition H Bar 16 inch barrel A2 sights with removable handle and rail on the flat top to mount optics...and as other commenter pointed out...NO bayonet lug...that was also part of the ban... Ive been very happy with mine..they shoot like a laser beam...Only drawback is...in typical colt style... They have to be cleaned after a couple hundred rounds ...or less...if not...I hope you enjoy clearing jams...in defense of the Colt AR-15 ... I just say thats how well made they are ...very tight tolerance in the machining process... The smallest amount of fouling ..grime..etc...penetrates in between the working surfaces of the internal metal parts...and grinds everything to a halt... AKA Jam...or worst of all...Negative spent cartridge extraction!!! .. Cheap ammo is major contributor to these problems...dirty black powder ...ball ammo...A finely crafted .. High dollar machine..only enjoys the finest of meals... You wouldn't want to feed a millionaire a cheese sandwich...Of course not...lobster... caviar..etc..Thats like putting 87 octane...in a Lamborghini..lol..

Mine came with the muzzle brake and it has a removable carry handle with picatinny under it. Bought it in 98. I’m ashamed to say I haven’t shot it much, been a safe queen but I’m about to start shooting it a lot. From what I understand Colt quality is down but mine has been great in the few times I’ve fired it.

That was a heck of a deal you got..cant even get the ammo for that now...i remember buying south african 223 for $75 for a 1000 round sealed in rubber battle pack...ol boy at the gun shop told me and my friend ..."Man...back again ...you guys have shot up more ammo than me and my entire platoon did in three tours in Vietnam" ...lol..and the 7.62 tuna cans were even much cheaper. Those were the Day's !! Thanks for your time ..Have a good day. 🇺🇸

I lived through that era. I can tell you that the firearms community was very displeased with Colt for their modifications to the specifications of the lower receiver. People need to understand that Colt Manufacturing chose to implement these modifications to the lower receiver on their own. People felt it was bad enough paying exorbitant prices for a neutered bolt carrier group, front sight assembly and barrel. But for Colt to take it even further by changing the lower receiver was the straw that broke the camels back.

At least they actually made them. Colt doesn't even make any of the parts with their name on them anymore. So, it's like that now, only worse.

@@MaverickTangent Good point. If you had told me back in 1992 that Colt and Remington would be bought out by Cz and the “Freedom Group” I would have called you crazy. This industry has become a very slippery slope. You are either ALL IN, or you are going to end up like Colt and Remington.

It is not excellent for high power until a internal free float tube has been installed. This is because the heavy barrel is still bent when the sling is directly attached to it.

Oh HELL NO! He needs to give it a muzzle brake, tactical flashlight, Swiss Army Knife, and in the hollow part of the shoulder stock should be a small cleaning kit, two day supply of beef jerky, first aid kit, toiletry wipes, and nunchakus, in case he runs out of bullets.
