Colt 1911 Competition 45 ACP - Timeless Classic Design and Performance

I grew up shooting 1911s, specifically the one I show in this video. My father's old 1911 that he's carried since before I was born has certainly seen heavy use and I thought well, maybe its time to retire it and make it a safe queen so my future kids can enjoy it like I have. That pistol has also served me quite well and was one of my primary weapons I took with me when I moved all across the country in the Air Force.
I thought too, let's try some modernized features that you see on all the super nice 1911s nowadays. Things like skeletonized triggers, hammers, dovetailed sights, new fangled recoil spring systems, extended safeties, extended beavertails and extended grip safeties. Lo and behold, Colt has just the one I'm looking for. Additional plus that it is in fact a Colt, and that will always carry a premium to anyone who knows. Add on top of that that blue is my favorite color, and you can easily see why I was so attracted to this pistol. As well, the sights are my favorite sights setup, a blacked out adjustable rear sight with red fiber optic front sight. What more could I want?
This pistol has proven to be excellent and in some ways I enjoy it more than my father's 1911. In other ways I enjoy the old one, simply because its had decades of use, its worn in, and it was worked on by a master armorer ages ago. This Colt Competition is of course factory standard for the moment, but I may take it to a gunsmith for some nice tuning up at some point. As it stands, this pistol is excellent as is and serves its role well.

I was about to stop the video but when you said “a 1911 should be on 45” I did even subscribed to your channel. I totally agree.
Thanks for the video, I just bought my first Colt, almost the same pistol but in a 38 Super, Colt Gold Cup Trophy, beautiful pistol
Your dad’s 1911 is a keeper! I have a Springfield Armory 1911 set up the same way, pachmayr grips, better sights, the rest is all standard old school 1911. Never sell that pistol. The story alone adds to why you should never let it go.
I was eyeing that exact same gun in one of my local gun shops, for several months, trying to justify spending the money. Well, I dragged my feet for a little too long, because one day it just disappeared. Someone snatched it up before I could “pull the trigger” (come up with the cash), and now I can only dream of drawing that beautiful weapon, and zeroing in on a target. Like the saying goes…”He who hesitates…”.
Great story. Looking forward to updates on how it's holding up.
Great review. I’m wanting to get that exact one, just waiting for a few extra bucks to get it rolling
It’s a skeleton hammer 😊and your was made just a wee bit before CZ. I have one just like it except it has a blued slide with a stainless frame.
Great video just wished you would’ve shown us that guide rod/dual recoil spring that would have been nice to see

Very nice 1911 I have 3 Colts myself in 45, 38 super and 9mm
Harrison Design makes the straight vertical line mainspring housing you're looking for. I've got one on my Colt Competition.
The early gold cups were extremely accurate and reliable fire arms. Of course I collect early 1911s mostly war pistols. Do have some some comp. Guns but not anything newer than 2002. How well does it print @ 25 yards and have you tried double end wad cutters.
Call ed brown, they have the arched MSH you seek and yes it matches.
I have that gun in 45 it's like shooting a Lazer
Your right round checkered msh are difficult but Google egw they have it in stainless PERFECT for your gun! And better than than the plastic Delhi msh u have now.
