God bless your ministry! Your short studies is currently helping my young adult ministry in my church. These group of individuals tend to get left out, and so the Bible study is really what they are feeding on! 📖🙏🏽👆🏽

That is certainly not the opinion Jesus would have on it But even if you forget about the Scriptures, it should be obvious from observation that this is not true. Consider the way we eat...every scientist in the world knows that eating junk food (which I happen to be very happy eating) does not actually make me happier in the long run...in fact it is quite the opposite.

One thing I have noticed that we see in life as a philosophy is the concept of individualism. If "I" try really hard I can accomplish anything. However, it leaves out God's strength and makes us Lord of our lives and not God. It also doesn't allow us to have a relationship with God or others to help us on our journey.

I'm struggling with s new job, working with teens with emotional problems. Everyday I want to quit. Everyday I cry. And still I go back there. There's got to be a purpose to my life, I don't see one, but I know God has one for me. Just pray that I can be strong emotionally and hold back my tears. I am strong un the Lord! I just want a job for a salary I'd like to make a difference in others' lives. One phrase that comes to mind is "just Do what makes you happy"

We hear “just believe in yourself.” Where is God in this phrase? This phrase screams ME, ME, ME, as if there’s no need for GOD. There’s nothing wrong with feeling confident and positive about yourself, but I give God credit first in my life and then everything else follows.

I like the fact that the idea of "God helps those who help themselves" is unbiblical. It is sad that we receive this idea as true. We then walk around like we have no God because we try and do everything on our own instead of submitting to God and acknowledging his sovereignty and presence in our lives. Another thing we receive that is false is the law of attraction, the very idea that by thinking positively, we will then attract positive things in our lives. This is unfortunately false teaching in our modern world. It has nothing to do with Christ and it actually draws us further away from Christ by thinking that it is up to us to always have a positive mindset lest we have negative things enter our lives.

It’s funny that the same false teaching that my pastor mentioned last week, you highlighted today. “God helps those who help themselves.” Having children, I see how this becomes the sticky info that gets passed and repeated often. I want my children to work hard and achieve. I want them to tackle work and doing their part instead of waiting or expecting something. So I see how from a spirit of trying to teach work ethic that one can grab this statement and use it today. Another that is used by well-meaning parents and others is,”nothing in life is free.” The truth is that the most valuable thing in life is free. Salvation through Christ Jesus is ours to accept, but again, through trying to combat laziness and push work ethic these sticky statements continue to have legs. Thank you for the homework. I enjoy the channel.

I've heard people say "do unto others as others do unto you" I think that's often used in situations of "getting even" or revenge and that's not what God teaches us. I think the bible does say though to treat others like you would like to be treated, this is better because it's reminding us to be kind to one other because we too would like to receive that same kindness from others

I have one. I got fired from my job as a Teacher Aide last week by an administrator of a private Christian elementary school for reporting what a student told me. The student told me that her dad is growing cannabis in the attic and that she helps. She is 7 yrs old. He is not a licensed cannabis cultivator. That administrator - who is a "Christian" by family heritage so who knows if she is truly born again and Holy Spirit filled - furiously used excuses that I had been an hour late to work, even though she knew I called in late due to coming in while still sick with RSV Bronchiolitis, then a cold virus on top of that. She furiously told me that I didn't ask the Teacher if I could ask the student questions about the students' announcement in class one day that, "My daddy smokes cannabis." The administrator hurriedly ended her tirade with "I'm sorry but I have to protect the school so I can't use your help for now." Her vain statement that she has to protect the school seems more like an expression rooted in human traditions and the elemental spirits of the world. Did she really mean that she had to protect large donations to the school from that family; or 4 enrollment fees for all 4 siblings attending the school; or her reputation with the school board; the schools reputation; or perhaps even her own cannabis use for hip pain perhaps purchased from that dad? A lot of these are guesses (some wild) however all I am left with are guesses because she didn't reply to my email to her asking for her forgiveness (even though I probably didn't have to apologize). Please pray for her (I am trying), for God to bring help and justice for the children and for God to defend and rectify this on my behalf.

I think people are so captivated these days with a desire for well-being and inner-peace. I totally get that. They desperately want inner-peace but with no sacrifice. Think yoga, mindfulness apps, etc. I think it's really not a bad thing in some ways. We all need to slow down in our crazy fast culture...but....ultimately, if that is your spirituality, it is empty. Literally, the goal is emptiness. I am an Orthodox Christian and it makes me sad to see Western Christians even hunger for something true that the East has to offer but to not delve deep into the spiritual practices of desert fathers and mothers, of Christian meditation, written prayers, treasure troves of our faith. These are not the traditions of man but of God and man (such as the Bible/the church councils that codified the Bible) through the Church His Body. May God bless youall! What a beautiful chapter!~

I have to follow my heart & be independent. I can take care of myself. You do you. I am enough.” All false sayings. What’s true? 2 Timothy 1:9 for example: “He (Jesus Christ) has saved us & called us to a holy life - not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose & grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,” you can exhaust yourself to do it all on your own, but that was never the purpose God had for your life. Surrender, repent, obey, & see the purpose God has for you is infinitely better than what you could imagine for yourself.

There are SO many. I think the main thing for me though is "love your neighbor" and "only God can judge me" both kind of go hand in hand. Yes, you can love your neighbor and not agree with their way of life, and not parade around up and down the street screaming about it at the same time. Also, as a Christian, if I am doing something that isn't in line with the way that christ wants me to live I WANT someone else to judge me. Please, please tell me so I can grow and change. Sometimes people from the outside have a better point of view than we do when we are in the thick of it.

"Follow your heart" is one of the popular mantras of our modern society, yet it certainly goes against the Biblical wisdom that warns us that "the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked" (Jeremiah 17:9). Don't follow your heart - follow JESUS.

Self-help is definitely pushed in our culture as a good thing. But, It is most definitely in complete opposition to many of God's basic biblical principles. God clearly states in Hebrews 4:16, Psalm 55:22, Psalm 37:3-5, and more that we need a savior. We cannot "self-help" our way to heaven. Clearly, our wretched sinful nature is beyond any form of human help. Therefore we must depend on God, and God alone for our help.
