I just completed the CT and sitting in a hotel room in Durango. You will love the CT. It is better than the JMT. Insanely beautiful and heavenly. Take extra batteries as you will film a lot. Frisco, Twin Lakes were awesome. Monarch mountain lodge was also great. Don't forget to visit bakery in Lake City. Avoid Molas Lake campground and instead go to Silverton. The first 40 miles and the last 40 miles are very dry and hot. Carry lots of water. Also a good hat is a must. I carried the zpacks pointy hat. A cap may not work that well. The trail in most of the places is above tree line and sometimes temperatures can reach 100 while hiking for 16 to 18 miles out in the open. August should be drier in terms of rain. Didn't get that much rain in August. Did get some in July. Not much of mosquitoes. Daylight is from 5:30 till 8:30. I found mornings to be hot and evenings to be milder. You will love it. It is the most beautiful hike I have ever done. Heaven on earth. Enjoy.

Was so hoping to meet you in person on the CT when I hiked it with my daughter this summer. She ruptured a disk on day three and we left the trail, plus you started much later than we would have been on the trail. I'm looking forward to hiking the trail vicariously through you this year and for real next year. Happy trails and thanks for sharing.

Cool, man. I bought a pair of Altas today on your recommendation. They are super comfortable. In fact, I have worn them for hours and have them on now. They are cut like SAS - San Antonio Shoes - another company that cares about the toe box. All REI had was a pair of black ones, which are not visually appealing, but on the trail they will be so great. I will be three weeks in the Rockies from S. Texas in September, and am taking a brand new Hyke & Byke 0 degree bag. Its probably overkill for the temps, cuz I also run a Klymit Static 5, which is insulated and awesome. I used it in the San Juans in April and have never slept so soundly in a tent. And a pillow. Arrives tomorrow :) Thanks for the great tip on the shoes, and have a safe, peaceful hike on the CT.

I just got an Enlightened Equipment Apex Torrid based on your recommendation and man oh man am I happy. It is super warm and most of all I love the cut, which accommodates my definitely non-Arcteryx-proportioned body (i.e., bigger hips, and more than an ounce of body fat). I had tried the Ghost Whisperer but it was way too big for me if I sized up, and again too narrow around my hips if I went with my usual size. And the Torrid weighs an ounce less than the Ghost Whisperer but feels warmer - probably due to the lack of stitching.

Darwin, have you experienced not using stuff sacks for the things that really don't need them, like sleeping bag, clothing, etc. You end up with more available room in your pack. Stuff sacks create unused empthy space around the outside of them. Just stuff your sleeping bag in the bottom of pack (you already have nylofume protection and pack), followed by clothing, with things that hold numerous items in bacs above. See how much more available value you will have. Yes, I always use a light/thing pack liner. Ray Jardin taught me this back in the 70's, and I have been using it ever since. Happy Trails.

I'm new to all this and have only recently completed my first weekend backpacking but have been following yourself and other channels for a few months during lockdown to try and learn. My question is why do so many hikers focus on base weight and not total trail weight? It's like once all the purpose made lightweight gear is in the bag, we can give our selves a pat on the back and try not to think about the weight of clothes, food and especially water. Wouldn't it be more realistic (especially for a beginner) to factor in the total weight on you back? 🤔 Look forward to the next video 👍🏽👊🏽🙏🏽

Your new UGQ Bandit XL quilt looks great! What type of footbox did you choose, drawcord or sewn?

Hi Darwin. I’m curious to know how you size your rain jacket. Is it large enough to place over your Apex jacket? Thanks.

I heard pilling was a major issue with some of the Arcteryx long sleeve shirts. Have you had any issues like that with the Skyline? Thanks!

How do these stakes work with the Zpacks lines? I use sherpherd's hook stakes to anchor the loop, but I'm not sure how that would work with these "nail head" type stakes....

Hi Darwin, are you still able to get TIMP 1.5 shoes somewhere? Where? I am in the 2.0 Times but loved the 1.5’s.
