Color and FLOW: Practicing creative self-care with simple art

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Welcome to Better With Art! I'm Melinda and I'm here to encourage you to reclaim your creativity and practice creative self-care with weekly small-art prompts that can be done in an art journal or on paper if you don't have one. Link below for the art journal I use in these videos if you’re looking for one. It works well with the dry, wet, and layered applications I use it for.
This week we’re using colored markers for a new type of flow-inspiring line-making I saw on Instagram. You can check out more from wizart_ here: / _wizart__
If you'd like to extend the week's theme with journaling prompts and other creative self-care inspiration, click below to sign up for Better With Art emails.

You'll also receive a link to join the private Better With Art Facebook group.
And here's my top value-for-the-money recommendation if you'd like an art journal to get started with my simple form of art journaling:
amzn.to/3oThdR4
I use it in my prompt videos, and for the art journaling groups at the library where I work. I LOVE the paper. If searching for something different remember the paper needs to be heavyweight and preferably hot-press because although I love the texture of cold-press it's really hard on markers and pens. This one is 140lb/300gsm.
Other materials used
BIC Intensity Permanent Marker Coloring Bundle amzn.to/3wwLxoJ
Another colored marker I often use are the Amazon version of Sharpies. They’re a good value and often on sale. I guess I should call them what they’re actually called: Amazon Basics Fine Point Tip Permanent Markers amzn.to/4bK4vqU
Black Sharpies amzn.to/3QQgpHJ
If you use any of my Amazon links and make a qualifying purchase, I will make a small commission as an Amazon associate. This does not affect your price, but supports my sharing my healthy art habit with others. So thanks if you do!

Hi, I also do art because it keeps me sane. I tend to "catastrophize," and making small art is a godsend. I agree that art doesn't have to be expensive. So, some artists use a "catalyst wedge," while I use carboard fake credit cards that come in the mail. You get the same results. Part of creativity is in using what you have.

I'm glad you've found art, so to speak, and use it to help your brain get past negative thoughts. Art-making is a wonderful tool. Yes, using what we have is a vital part of creativity. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
