Outfreakingstanding! Nothing like marching behind a well trained and disciplined fife and drum corps in ranks. Our ANV battalion had heck of one back in my heyday of reenacting. It'll definitely put a pep in your step!

@@desertrat9937 Question! Are you familiar with German military music?? Could you settle a ...how to say?...a dispute for me? "UNSER LIEBE FRAUEN" is a "Ladsknecht Lied" - right? Is it a CATHOLIC song? ...for me "Unser Liebe Frauen vom Kaltem Bronnen, etc." sounds a DAMN LOT like a sort of tribute to the (indirectly) "Mother Of God" or - eventually - to some sort of "statue" or "representation" of her, somewhere along the German countryside.

  • @desertrat9937

@@2serveand2protect Hey! I'm quite flattered that you ask me on this. Indeed I know quite a bit about German military music as well as history and can already confirm this, it is indeed directed towards the Mother of Jesus, Marie. In the song, first stanza, they mention "vom kalten Bronnen". This refers to a place called Kaltenbrun and is also the sigh of a statue of Marie, where the people in the area would go to pray. During the war, the song was created based on prayers they already had and simply speaks of how they ask Marie to help them in their trying times. It is almost safe to say that the song originates out of the area of Kaltenbrun and speaks for their harsh times of the war. So, in conclusion, you are right, the song is dedicated to a statue of Marie and herself of course. Hope this does help in your "dispute"!

Yes, and? Musicians in the colonial period wore reverse colors from the line units. First to identify them as non combatants to the enemy, and second, to make them easier to find by commanders to relay commands. The Virginia regiment wore blue coats with red facings- so the Fifer's and drummers wore red coats with blue facings. Note the non musician carrying the flag is in a blue coat. You'll notice the same thing if you look at the US Army 3rd Infantry "Old Guard" ceremonial unit. British units did the same thing- you'd find drummers in white coats with red facing, or yellow coat with red facing, or green coat with red facings; depending on the regiment.
