I've come to love the 'clip to your beltloop' side-clip (trucker) suspenders, and have even mod'd Duluth clip-on trucker suspenders to the snap-clips/clasps that clip right on my belt. The original Duluth clips tear up my pants. I like the leather suspenders, but the single point on the back gives me a wedgie - unacceptable. The traditional suspenders that use buttons work well, but the buttons can rip out, especially if you add them later (bachelor buttons). The clasps combined with side-clip suspenders are my current favorite. A combo of leather with a little very strong/stiff elastic might be ideal.

With these attached to my belt the pants are held up evenly. Works great!

I like the Perry suspenders with the belt clips. It would be nice if someone made nice leather suspenders with belt clips.

There are some on Etsy but I liked these better overall. It would be nice if Colonel Littleton made the belt attachments too. I guess most folks don't wear these with a belt.
