This was such an amazing track, we had to give it a 10/10 because honestly I don’t think there was anything we could find wrong with this song. Everything was so well thought out and executed! What other Tool songs should we check out? Let me know below! We’re going to have to explore more!!

DANKIUS kind of, but that a little overstated. if you include the alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8 and the alternating 6/8 and 7/8, by saying each is a meter change. But really, the meter doesn’t change until after the section and the alternating parts can just be looked at as 12/8 and 13/8

Read an article....think it was Buzzfeed...a few months ago that tried to rank the best to worst Tool songs. It was after reading that I realized the person who wrote it was either: 1: An idiot 2: Playing a really early April Fools joke. Reason being, there are no BAD TOOL songs. Yes, there are some that are better than others of course, but I can make an argument for something to like about every single song in their catalog. There is not another band on Earth I can say that about. NIN is close, but I do actually dislike 2 of their songs.

Tool's version is a cover that's 4 minutes longer. They slightly change the lyrics in places, add a fast-paced section at the end, it absolutely kicks ass.

Watching people try to groove to a Tool track on their first listen is genuinely hilarious 😂. I take for granted I know the rhythm like the back of my hand. The main riff is 5/8 and 7/8 alternating, when the first change happens, that riff is 6/8 and 7/8 alternating. Really though I just nod to the pulse and accept that sometimes the accent is on the up beat and sometimes on the down beat.

Tool I believe has multiple time signatures going on at once between the drums, bass and guitar and then there is Maynard's lyrics that just tie it together. But there are multiple time sigs going on at the same time. It like layers over really well. Just my take. Found Tool in the mid to late 90's. I'm 50 now and just went to see them live a month ago. They are my tops. If you want to really get the feel, binge a complete album. You won't regret it. Also if you like Tool, give "A Perfect Circle" a try. You'll like them as well. It's one of Maynard's (lead singer TooL) side bands and they are legit. Pucifer isn't bad either.

Alex and Andy, as a Gen X’er who grew up when Grunge took over Hair Metal, you’ve actually stumbled on to the very finest our generation has to offer, not that this is Grunge. Tool is their own genre, there’s no one like them thus far. They don’t ever release an album that every song doesnt’ completely move them firstly, and then their fans. Go through their album list bottom to top and see if you don’t feel it too!!! I could just say review any song but please review Lateralus and check out the math equation that the time and syllables match cup with the complex mathematical equation called Fibonacci which mirrors both biological organisms and the free market. Beyond that know that they didn’t do this for their hubris but rather to point you away from it. These are some songs to review: Jimmy ; Jambi; Rosetta Stoned but you must play the intro ( the “song” before it )and show the lyrics think (alien abduction); Right in two; Disposition; Flood.

Great video guys! It's about a breakdown in communication between lovers using puzzle pieces as a metaphor. I really like this song and would give it a 10. I haven't listened to a great deal of Tool, but from my experience, this is a rather tame song for them. Also, Willie Nelson always sings behind the beat on pretty much every song he's done. He's a far cry from Tool, but Alex talking about singing behind the bar made me think of it. Until next time...

I have been listening to TooL for over 25 years now and would have to recommend Laterallus and have the lyrics up when you do. That song has a very specific structure that you two would love and be inspired by how he worked metaphysics, mathmatics, music, and spirituality into the song. But please check out his two other bands also... A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Both are VERY unique and show a different kind of Maynard James Keenan in each.

On Schism's time signature: "The band has referred to the time signature as 6.5/8. Although many composers would use 13/16 instead, 6.5/8 is still a valid fractional time signature. The song begins with two bars of 5/4, followed by one bar of 4/4, followed by bars of alternating 5/8 and 7/8, until the first interlude, which consists of alternating bars of 6/8 and 7/8. The following verse exhibits a similar pattern to the first, alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8. The next section is bars of 6/4 followed by one bar of 11/8. This takes the song back into alternating 5/8 and 7/8. Another 6/8 and 7/8 section follows, and after this the song goes into repeating 7/8 bars. The middle section is subsequently introduced, consisting of three bars of 6/8, one bar of 3/8, and one bar of 3/4 repeating several times. At one point it interrupts with two bars of 6/8 followed by a bar of 4/8, twice. A bar of 5/8 is played before the meter switches back to 6/8 for two bars and 2/4 for one bar. This repeats, setting up another section: two bars of 9/8 followed by a bar of 10/8, that pattern again, and then a single bar of 9/8 followed by alternating bars of 6/8 and 7/8. The outro has alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8, ending with alternating 6/8, 2/8 that one could interpret as pulsing with a 4/4 feel."
