Of course, today's music is crap, but you have to consider the standard that was set in the 60 70s and 80s. There will probably never be another golden age of rock and roll like that. @@michaelb1761 I don't necessarily know if I would qualify "most" of Thorogood and The Destroyers' songs as covers. - I mean: "Bad To The Bone", "I Drink Alone", "Gear Jammer" ...just to name three, all written by George hisself 👍👍😁 ...but, as with many (or, even, most, perhaps) great blues artists ...they tend to pay homage to their forerunners (esp. those who, both DID and did NOT receive the accolades and recognition they were due, at the time. 👍). ...Let's try to name a guy who HASN'T covered, say: Muddy Waters ...or Skip James ...or Robert Johnson ...or Leadbelly ...or Willie Dixon ?? Right? ...but George wrote plenty ...just as the man who brought blues back from the brink, a few years later [Stevie Ray Vaughan], did, as well. They both wrote plenty of their own material ...However: they knew where they came from and who was important to shine a light upon. 🤘🤘 ...but, yes, in any case: I, really, was expressing the fact that "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" was a John Lee Hooker standard, not to take AWAY from George Thorogood's version (I think I like G.T.'s version even BETTER than John Lee Hooker's original, personally!) or to make any statement regarding "quality," at all or "originality" (everyone has to give their own voice to a song ...otherwise they've done nothing at all! In essence! - at the very least: Nothing worthwhile!!), but, simply, because: I was pretty certain that Andy & Alex (along with a number of others who frequent the page) might NOT be AWARE that: "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" was a cover and of how important a figure Mr. John Lee Hooker IS in American Blues music. -Not everyone has the benefit of, either: hindsight, research or, simply, "awareness." Y'see?? 👍😁💜 That was, really, "my point." ...but I agree with your assessment: George Thorogood is a magnificently talented guitarist and all of the classic blues he has covered, he has done with skill, aplomb and talent.

We wrote down our times to see how the alcohol affected our driving. Play the game, take a shot, play the game, take a shot. The game only lasted like 3 minutes so I had like 10 shots in 30 minutes. I woke up the next morning on the couch feeling awful, and there is a bucket and a roll of paper towels next to the couch. I'm like, what the hell is that for? RAAAALPH!! OH.

Omg! How am I just discovering yall? As a more mature person who grew up with all this music playing in my house everyday, I appreciate you young dudes loving this music. I grew up with music all my life, my uncle was in a band and I was exposed to every type of music from birth. So to see you guys react to this music the way it’s supposed to be, with feeling, joy and passion, it’s just beautiful to see. You can actually see every note permeate through your mind, down to your body and into your souls. Thank you for appreciating the music that shaped my life. Oh and I did subscribe! ❤️

Five Reasons why I love George Thorogood; (1) After playing semi pro baseball, and as a hard core baseball fan, he decided he'd rather focus on music as a career. (2) He opened for the Rolling Stones. In fact I've read that the Stones wanted to bring him into the band at one point. (3) He's got a great sense of humor. (4) He and the Destroyers absolutely tear up the stage. (5) He's got a killer sax player who gets plenty of room to show his chops. As you can tell by my avatar, that's close to my heart.

She is a phenomenal vocalist! Heart was one of my singing inspirations, as were Plant, Daltrey, Bowie and Joplin. I grew up listening to what we now call classic rock, as a teen in the ‘70s. I’m a woman and was the lead singer in a Zep tribute band (a dream come true) at 40 years old, though I’d covered them, The Who, Bowie, the Stones, Pat Benatar, Queen, AC/DC, Judas Priest, etc, for years, including in an all-girl, hard rock band in my twenties. I switched to Blues and Jazz since, but still love going to jam nights and rocking out.

Page was into it and Plant looked really touched, shedding a tear, at one point you can see Plant mouth to Page "not bad" They later said on Letterman how they've never been honored like this in their own country. And the drummer was Jason Bonham, John Bonham's son.

Saw Thorogood in Montreal in '81. At one point during this song, he took a seat in the front row, put his feet up on the stage and just played...the "Scratch My Back" segment went on for over eight minutes before he returned to the stage. He had on a snakeskin suit (with matching cowboy boots) and a black t-shirt. That auditorium got the shit rocked out of it that night.

In the early 70s I was working in a local Record Shop as a teenager and I remember this album coming out and I brought it and it became part of my wow factor list of songs.. They really didn't catch on to the mainstream here in the USA but were huge in Europe. On the album itself that song spans nearly the entire side. Being exposed to new albums as they arrived. watching you guys react brings back a great feeling from my past listening to fresh music for from all bands. watching too guys react to songs for the first time reminds me of myself. Enjoy your channel. James from FL.

9:54 ANDY: "I'm too drunk to like, uhh...like uhh... agree with that but, like I'm gonna like acknowledge what your saying....and I'm here with you" There is one of my favorite moments right there. Classic.

I used to listen to Hocus Pocus on a 45 rpm single that belonged to my sister! I really prefer the various studio versions to this live version, but this performance is so hyper and frenetic, it's a lot of fun too! There's like 3 or 4 different studio versions you should check out!

I like the “Hocus Pocus II” version best of all. The guitar work was so far ahead of its time...and none of their other stuff sounded like this.

@@alexfromandyandalex8032 I'd say maybe try the songs Focus II or Eruption from their Moving Waves album. Or, just try the studio version of Hocus Pocus or Hocus Pocus II. Most of their stuff is more jazzy or prog rock-ish than the one you guys heard. Enjoy!

The best version of Hocus Pocus is the one from their Moving Waves album.

A little trivia...at the 44:14 mark, there's a shot of the horn section during Heart's rendition of "Stairway to Heaven". The guy in the middle playing the tenor sax is 'Blue' Lou Marini. He was in movie 'The Blues Brothers' starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd from the early 80's. Since you guys are music aficionados, that movie is worth checking out...lots of good music, good laughs, and a lot of cars wrecked. Cameos include but not limited to: Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and James Brown.

As awesome as the televised version of "Hocus Pocus" is, I think it takes a distant second place to the album version. They were given too little time to perform the song to their normal time, and instead of dropping anything out to make it fit the time they were given, they sped the entire song up to fit the shorter time. In my opinion, it suffered badly by being compressed like that. For the Heart cover of "Stairway to Heaven", you stopped the video right before Jason Bonham saluted the members of Led Zeppelin in the balcony, and their returning the salute.

I was hoping someone else thought so, too!! I wasn't sure if it was the TV time constraints, or an over-abundance of cocaine, or both!

I agree the Midnight Special rendition was rushed, but it is imprssive that they can play that fast.

Focus is one of the few bands who played their song live on The Midnight Special show. Most bands used a backing track and just pretended to play/sing. Focus gets a 10 just for doing it totally live!

I discovered this channel about a week ago and have watched a great deal of your videos, and I have really enjoyed every one of them. The songs you are hearing for the first time I have heard ad nauseum over my 49 years on this planet but watching the passion you guys display when listening to this music has made me re-open my ears to them and it has re-ignited my passion for these songs again, so thank you for teaching this old dog new tricks for my ears to listen to. It truly has been a rediscovery for me and I am encouraged that your generation is listening to the music I got to grow up with and have a deep respect and appreciation for.
