@@encycl07pedia- because ND *IS* a cupcake game. They go undefeated until they appear in the playoff, then get bitchslapped. UCF goes undefeated but gets bitchslapped by LSU. Boise State goes undefeated but so does every top 2 P5 team so no dice for the Broncs. If NDSU moves up, they'll just be another Boise State.

That 5 minutes straight of Portland state was tough to watch.

How about an entire video of NDSU upsets over FBS teams. It is at least 5 in a row. Greatest program in FCS history beyond all doubt.

I was there, JMU was the better team on that day and in that season. When they put together a 6 year run like NDSU in a conference as tough as the MVFC, then you can talk. They'll find out this year how tough it is to go back to back. It takes something special and NDSU did it 5 times in a row.

North Dakota state is not going to be an average team in the FBS, when they can dominate the FCS. Plus, they are not a big school like a Notre Dame or USC, so why should they worry about trying to play the big money game? It's all really about Craig Bohl, who's at Wyoming now and has taken basically the hardest school to recruit from to three straight bowls.. Proof that Bohl is not a big money guy.

ldolphin34 idk bout that point. Stipends are only given at a few fcs schools and nds is one of em. Theyre not a huge school and i wouldn’t necessarily say they act in big money ways but they act like a fbs school in many ways.

What about Liberty over Baylor and the Howard Bison upsetting UNLV in the greatest point spread upset of all time. Even with Cam Newton's little brother, Howard was a 45-point underdog

Exactly. I'm a fan of a Group of 5 school but FCS has a true playoff system, not the watered down CFP where the Power 5 keeps the group of 5 from a National Championship. The whole Bowl system is a complete joke and I wish the G5 would break away from the P5 and form our own 16-team (or so) playoff system.

Teams with no names on their backs are the best ones to see win against ones that do....👌

Rise up falcon, you and the ref made the same mistake. Citadel was almost ninety yards from their own goal, so the penalty should have been 15 yards. If the penalty had been on the Ganecocks it would have been half the distance.

Too many upsets in college football for this to not have a part3 and even a part4. I will be waiting patiently for that day😎

It's hard to find good highlights of it, but if you do more parts you should try to include Yale over Army from 2014. A rare instance of an FBS team playing on the road against an FCS team. They had a rivalry in the early days of football when both programs were powerhouses, so to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Yale Bowl, Army played at Yale. Yale never lead during regulation, but after Army missed a field goal in overtime, Yale scored a touchdown to win.

Thanks for this series. Though I follow Big Ten ball, I got to see NDSU and Richmond play in person. They are good. If you make another one, Illinois State beating a good Northwestern team in 2016 might be a good addition.

Hmmm, Fordham, Villanova, Delaware, South Dakota, North Dakota, Bethune Cookman, Florida A&M, William & Mary, Northern Iowa, Southern illinois, Illinois State, Youngstown State, Furman, Samford, Central Arkansas, D2 North Alabam beat La.-Lafayette, and many more that should be highlighted.

As an Iow State fan, I always get anxious whenever we play Northern Iowa. We just came off our best season ever and all of the seniors are coming back but Northern Iowa can play football against us. It’s going to be another good one this year, I can feel it!

If you make a 3rd one of these, I remember Fordham beat Temple a few years ago, IIRC on a hail mary

I remember going to the UNT vs Portland St game, it was homecoming for UNT, safe to say this wasn't the best homecoming game they ever got

bro that Portland State sportscaster had me hype

So it turns out James Madison went 6-5 and 3-5 in conference the year they beat VTech. Not worldbeaters by any stretch

Omer Frank I think that season/win laid the foundation for JMU though to come to greatness and to win the National title last year (look at how the program turned around after that season.. minus the one 6-6 year)

The 2015 Portland Vikings were a good team, my UNT Eagles were dead last in FBS rankings that year, and the team was actually tanking on purpose to get the coach fired. It was a bad year all around haha

I have faith in Spencer Brown. He’s been one of the best RBs in the country. We should be a strong 8-4 heading into the bowl. AJ Erdely takes care of the ball well. I know him personally and he’s a cool headed guy. I think we can win a bowl game

You should include the eastern Washington team that beat the same Washington state team the following season in a shootout thriller. Final of that one was 59-52 in favor of the eastern Washington eagles

To be fair, when we (iowa state) lost to ndsu, we were at the bottom of the big 12 with kansas

26 Reasonz They were still FCS that year, playing in the Big South conference. The team that won the Big South, Kennesaw State, plays Georgia State to start this season. Could be yet another FCS upset game...

I remember being a kid in Harrisonburg and watching JMU beat VT and then VT proceed to become a poverty program. Most VA people hate VT unless they go there, so most of VA was huge on that win and everything that happened after

Liberty Over Baylor and Howard over UNLV should be here. Also, FBS team outside of the power 5 that NDST beats isnt much of an upset lol they're freaking good.

That UNT/Portland St game doesn't count lol, my alma mater UNT some years is basically FCS & as you can see probably wouldn't even do well half the time.

I go to UNT lol. I came in 2017 and we finished 9-5 and 2nd in the Conference USA championship. UNT definitely improved in that two year span. We're ranked 78th out of 127 teams this year in the FBS. So UNT is improving to say the least.

Tyler Renew used to go to my church all the time. He played tailback for The Citadel.

As a Citadel Alumni, I thoroughly enjoyed the defeat of South Carolina that day. I wouldn't say it was much of an upset though. The Citadel won their conference that year and South Carolina didn't make a bowl game. I also want to say 2 of The Citadel's losses that year were by like 1 point. I feel like some of the better FCS teams over crappy FBS teams aren't really upsets, like say if the #1 team in the FCS went up against an 0-10 Kansas team.

2016: Western Illinois (FCS) beat Northern Illinois (FBS).

This is why the fbs and fcs need to merge and let the conference champions and 1 wildcard for the ncaa division 1 national championship with the national championship game at the rose Bowl. Keep the bowl games and raise eligibility to 7 from 6

James Madison now got their opportunity as they’re in the Sun Belt and even got ranked in 2022. North Dakota State is so overdue, hopefully they go to the Mountain West Conference. Even Jacksonville State is moving up to FBS.

I lived in the Denton, TX area for about 25 years. The University of North Texas Eagles HAVE ALWAYS SUCKED! With the exception of Mean Joe Green of course.

Im a Carolina fan and that false start was literally the dumbest call ever and it wasn't even the case. EVERYONE WAS SET!
