🏀 College Basketball Secrets Exposed: Recruiting Trips
My first introduction to college basketball recruiting trips was from the movie “Blue Chips”. I saw how Nick Nolte stroked the ego of Matt Nover, Penny Hardaway and Shaquille O’Neal. I always wondered if that was true.
The next time I saw a college basketball recruiting trip in the media was in the Spike Lee Joint “He Got Game”. They went into EXTREME detail about what goes on when a high level recruit visits campus and my 13 year old self was all the way in.
When I started coaching college, I had to set up the recruiting trips. When I was coaching at Montverde, I was a part of the group that the college coaches wanted to impress.
I got to see and hear the reality of what was really going on.
I got to see how a coach could lose a recruit in an instant.
I got to see how a coach could flip a recruit from another school with honesty and transparency.
When you are going on an official visit, the coaches are going to be on their best behavior. They’re going to spend all of the school’s money to make sure you have a good time.
This isn’t the reality when you actually enroll.
In this video, I breakdown what recruits should look for when they are on their college basketball recruiting trips. I give you questions you should ask and what a coach’s response really means.
