Hi, Barbie! You did a great job with mixed media for this collage. It does take some time to play and try different things to get to know what you like and what isn't for you. This is amazing! I like the painty squares at the bottom. All of the doodles really added to the depth of this collage. I love the added bird!

You were scared 😱 .......... I was so nervous creating this collage. It's so out of my comfort zone, but I think one has to do it more to (again) find their comfort zone and style. I'm so happy you enjoyed the video and yes, Anne, go have a nice 'play' xo 💜💕💜

I love this design. It reminds me of the gemini. Very pretty. I always hesitate when I think about using paints. They never seem to do what I want them to. But the watercolors added a beautiful background. Brave move and congrats on the mixed media leap. You did well grasshopper. 👏

Generally speaking, mixed media is all about multi-layering, stencilling, mark-making, glueing, "messing up" and fixing it, and texture. The more texture the better :))) Some like to get messy and others like to stay neat. The beauty of mixed media is that everything is allowed, a lot is intuitive, and there is no right or wrong other than if it feels right or wrong for you. Many are just doing what others do. Someone with your talent doesn`t need art schooling to be good at collaging or mixed media. You`re great at collage and composition, which is a wonderful starting point for adding mixed media. Take it easy and don`t stress because you`re great at what you do. Just trust your inner voice, stay unique, and let the others do the same old same old. There`s one thing that makes everything easier and that`s prepping your surfaces with Gesso. Either white, transparent, or black. It gives a bit of tooth to your surface and gives you more freedom. You don`t need expensive paper for mixed media. That`s a waste of money. 1. You can use white Gesso on simple cereal cardboard or other thicker paper. You can make your own Gesso to save money. (Acrylic paint, white inexpensive glue for wood, starch) Recipes are on YT 2. It`s always good to have white acrylic paint at hand (it doesn`t have to be expensive). 3. Some scraps for backgrounds 4. Maybe some cheap stamps that you can use for backgrounds But you can find simple things around the house that make for great stamps. F.e.: Bubble wrap Mixed media doesn`t have to be expensive. You can do a lot with simple things. Excuse my English. Maybe some things I wrote are understandable enough to be of any use to you. Dear Barbie, I love your collages and I know that you will be great at anything, as long as you trust yourself because you are a wonderful artist. Sending love and hugs from Slovenia, Josie :)))

You made me LOL "Backgrounds scare me.", says she, who brought up a child, and was born in a time in which men seriously believed that a woman`s brain was smaller than theirs, when anxiety wasn`t even a word yet, and TVs were considered the tip of technology. And now you have your own YT channel, you teach and inspire thousands of people, you manage a computer as easily as a washing machine, and a smartphone is as natural to you as making your morning coffee. That`s too funny :))) What on Earth can a messed-up background do to you, a woman who went through the storms of life and survived???😂🤣 If you don`t like it, you ditch it and start again :))) That`s why it`s so important to use inexpensive materials. It gives you even more freedom to experiment. Thank you for your kind reply. I wish you a happy dive into new waters and lots of strength to relax and to let go. @@NellieandRuthDesigns lol It would be fun to collage with someone else. I think what you did is quite cool. I can't believe how great your copies/prints turned out? What paper did you use to print them? I struggle with getting good prints at home.

It's fabulous! The book is cool too. I'm working on a mystery page now. Sort of like your woman in the hat box page. With a laboratory, and trying to see if I can figure out a mechanism. Working in my garden is going very slow. Every day it gets really windy. Which I hate to work in. Now it's going to rain for three days. Ugh! Hopefully the sun will come out and dry everything up. Hope your toes are getting better. God bless ☔

Really nice collage! You did great with the mixed media. I was noticing on the Collage Soup site that they offer several of the books where you can download them and then print them and they are much more affordable than the hard copy books. Might be a good option if one is not going to use their originals.....but want to have the option of using the images several times. Just a thought.

You did a great job on this Barbie. The part you said you would not have doodled on, I think looks really good. I think there are different kinds of mixed media. I am also type A and I do more controlled mixed media cause I like things to be orderly. To me, fabric, paper and ink together is a simple mixed media. Through in a little of that drywall tape to kick it up a notch, then add doodles and then…it is endless. So you probably have technically done some sorts of mixed media in your art. You just really kicked up on this collage in a really good way. Well done gf🥰

Type A is tough when one wants you to get 'messy' ....... I hate messy and unfortunately messy can produce awesome results. Marion, I think type A means we like things neat and orderly .... all in straight lines ...... kind of like after you vacuum the carpet, all the lines are going in one direction and you DO NOT want anyone to walk on it or across it. LOL ........ Thank you for your comment and watching !!

Jean, there are no rules at all. I call this 'free range' bird collaging !! The whole point is to come up with your own creative way to collage with birds, however you want to do it. Give it a try and just have fun. xoxo
