Coleman 236 (the Major) Lantern, complete tear down, issues fixed, and cleaned.
Coleman Model 236 Major Lantern This is a Coleman Model 236 Major lantern that was made in October of 1951 in the Toronto, Canada factory. This lantern is rated at 500 candle power which is the brightest that Coleman made. This model uses white gas. Vintage Featuring Rare Green Sunshine Logo Globe.

Issues:
I had a fuel cap gasket issue when I first got this lantern, seller sold to me as is, for a 70 year old lantern fuel gasket harden is very common, ordered the gasket replaced and lantern lights, here is the link to video of gasket replacement.

2nd issue I had was a fuel leak on the fuel knob, that was easy fix just tighten the nut behind the fuel knob, and works, graphite packing was not needed to be replace.

Was the fount just cleaned with soap and water and then only "Never Dul"? I was stunned it came out so beautiful without Steel Wool and some other more harsh polish. I have a 237 that looks worse than how yours started. I would be very happy if my fount turned out half as nice as yours.

@@kcrepair168 Thanks for all the replies and fantastic KZread. I feel ready now to take on my 237. I am hoping with the Steel Wool and Never Dul I can get a shine out of mine too! I am going to google the "Major Lantern" and see what I can find. Thanks!

Hello, I have a mexican 236, I don't know how to remove the valve stem from the valve system. I need to replace the graphite packing and I didn't see how to do it (I didn't see that part in your video) Can you please help?

Same just they Nick named it Major. Google it and theres a write up about it.
