I think that's going to be my new motto when I'm having a tough day at work. I'll vent a little bit about how someone messed up and how they should have done it properly, and then set off to fix it after saying, "All right. Let's continue."

I agree, he absolutely made a better shoe, and based on the original quality, I’d never buy a Cole Haan. Their shoes can go for between $120 to $400 a pair. With that being said, the customer was fairly foolish IMHO to have this repair done based on his initial agreement. He could easily replace this shoe for close to what he paid for the repair. Now, the real value here is what he did to make the shoe better and not charge him for it. Without a doubt, this was an exceptional job and I enjoyed watching it.

Truly, the "silk purse" saying was never more apt. There's no flash here, but what knowledge, skill and craftsmanship! I have bought quite a few pairs of department store ready to wear shoes like Cole Haan and Johnston Murphy because I didn't know any better, they fit my budget, and gave me enough value for the dollars that I had to spend. I've learned something more about shoes lately. Especially, enough to recognize the beautiful piece of work was done here.

I have just today run into your channel and have become nostalgic. My grandfather was a shoe maker and I remember always getting the opportunity to walk into his shop to admire his work. He took great pride in doing what he did and he would always tell me stories about his humble beginnings as a shoe maker. I really miss him. Your videos make me feel closer to him even if he isn't around anymore 😔♥️

A skilled craftsman with the soul of an artist and the scruples of a saint. I hope the owner of those beat-up, sorry looking shoes paid what you asked without blinking and then saw your handiwork on here to see what he should have been charged. What he got back was better than new and I hope he appreciates it.

The fake stitching is horrendous not because of the signal it sends to the world but the false signal it sends to the consumer. Before I got into shoes I always looked for a stitch through thinking that it was higher quality and recraftable. Little did I know that it was a lie most of the time.

Like I have said before you are an artist. An artist takes the ordinary and turns it into something sublime. I really enjoyed when you decided to turn the pattern on the heal design because you liked the way it looked and functioned better. You did it because you wanted to not because of costs. The blue on the bottom and the laces were a nice touch. It made it better than when he bought them new. Great job! I enjoy watching you work taking the worn out and making it useful and beautiful again.

Snatch_ well that is a difficult question to answer. Not knowing what your looking for (dress, casual, outdoors, formal)the only advice I can give you is when your buying shoes, try different sizes then what you think your size is. If your a 10, try 10.5, 9.5, different widths. Not all shoe styles will fit the same.

As another shoe cobbler, I can attest to the very cheap quality of most Cole Haan’s. Definitely one of the brands I dislike working on. It’s “usually” a safe bet to say that any men’s shoe brand $300 or above is going to be made of higher quality materials and better quality. Not always but most of the time.

C-H is really a fashion shoe. In about six months to two years you (usually) wouldn't be caught wearing them. Loud and brash - which could be good or bad right? But its sort of disposable from the get go. Just look at a C-H catalog from ten years ago. Totally changed from what they offer today. Other brands like Allen Edmund look the same as 50 years ago but again good or bad. Depending on what you want.

Although I’m one of biggest Steve fan out there but for unknown reason I missed watching this video. The video is old (Pre tattoo) and I can’t believe how much time (Steve uses montage at some point in the video) and effort for the Cole Hann which shows that Steve really rise to the challenges wherever or wherever they might be. A true master of his craft my hat off to you Steve.

You're a gem! Making shoes better than they ever were. If anyone should be challenged about value-for-money, it's Cole-Haan for agreeing to cut corners and use inferior materials just to save a few bucks. jmho. Please keep making these videos - you're a natural!

I love the forensic analysis while you're disassembling the shoes for repair. I wonder if there would be any interest from the community in disassembling and analyzing higher-end new shoes. For example, I just purchased a pair of Johnson and Murphy Melton Cap Toe Oxfords and I would have LOVED to see their internal makeup prior dropping a buck 75 for the pair.

I used to be a fan of J&M but its a marketing sham they use in selling their old American roots heritage yet their shoes are manufactured in India, Vietnam , China etc. I'd suggest Magnanni: gorgeous, eye catching patina leathers and it's family owned so it's a small private company, each pair has better quality built in it.

At a Cole Haan store some 20 years ago they offered three cap toe black Oxfords, looking more or less alike. But one was $650, one $350, and one maybe $225. Maybe the top of the line was not shamelessly compromised, but at that time Ferragamo were on sale down the street for maybe $500, and AE Park Avenues were under $200 on sale. Over the years I’ve found Aldens and other good makers for under $200, so I never really wear anything till it’s really beat up. I’ll replace sole once in a blue moon, a heel a bit more often, but I regret my life plan doesn’t see me going all in for a major reconstruction (that in average hands would ruin the fit anyway.)

You sir are a true craftsman! It’s so rare to find many workers who go the extra mile these days to give added value only for improvement of aesthetic value and enjoyment of doing the job well. Greetings from a half Lebanese American! I heard that you formally lived in Lebanon. I’ve never been there but would like to visit. My ancestors were from Sidon, I think. I love watching these videos and I am gaining a greater appreciation for the Cobbler who repairs my shoes. One thing in the back of my mind is that I do not see many or any young craftsman (under 40) who do this kind of artisan repair. I hope this occupation continues to survive.
