Personally, i prefer this version more than the 2nd one. This one feels more personal with your own struggles within yourself, where as the 2nd one focuses of corrupt economy and world system. Maybe its because im in a very dark place in my life right now, but i just prefer this one more.

i just dig how fearless Chris was/is with playing around with the arrangement. No. 2 version of this song really dials it in. The band just kills it either way. Jonny with them guitar licks. Chris...I miss you on that piano, my man.

Elizabeth Daniel there is one album, A Rush of B-sides to your head. It compiles all B-sides from The Blue Room to 2003 (mid A Rush of Blood) but it does not include any of X&Y and part of A Rush. You probably can buy this song on a CD though, as its most likely part of one of the many EPs of X&Y

This studio version here from the video was ONLY released on a japanese limited first edition pressing of X&Y and wasnt listed on the CD even since it was only a hidden track of Til Kingdom Come. However, there was a alternative mix of the track released on a compilation named Help A Day In The Life. Guess the track can be considered one of the most unknown and hard to get ones.

I discovered this song in a local teahouse :) It's perhaps one of the most underrated songs ever.

Late to the replies but Things I Don’t Understand sounds a lot like The Hardest Part and Low so it was likely dropped for that reason. Plus the album is already fairly long and adding another track like this would make it drag out

I can relate various Coldplay songs to certain personal struggles in life. This one fits my situation perfectly right now.

I just found this B sides tracks and I'm glad, and I pretend it's their newest album after X &Y. For me Everyday life never happened. Its really sad that this band doesn't utilize its signature guitar sound and drumming anymore. The riffs and the melodies in the older albums were mind blowing!

No. 2 is the finished version of the song, so yes it's perfectly normal to prefer it. It's the version that you should be listening to, really. Although I guess a couple of people prefer No. 1, although that's probably due to hearing it first

Although i prefer No.1. I think version No.1 talks more about what lies inside than the outer problems, y'know? And i like intimist songs.

Gabriel Silva The lyrics of No. 1 are so much more cheesy though. No. 2 has clever metaphors and a deep meaning, No. 1 is just directly talking about inner feelings in a less subtle way which is way less powerful, in my opinion. Also, No. 2 just has more musical stuff going on too, I think there’s a subtle extra guitar layer (or it’s just mixed louder) or an extra synth, and there’s also vocal harmony. It feels so much more complete than No. 1.
