Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.
You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay.

Hey, Wolfpack345: A little tip I learned from an ex-submariner who also plays the game is that you really want to do when shooting missiles at warships is shoot two, and have one Harpoon set to “Pop-Up” and the other set to “Surface Skim”. This is because the one popping up will often become the primary focus of missile defense since it is raising up, easier to paint on radar IRL and in the game. Also, if you shoot the pop-up first followed by the skimmer on the same target spot, both will end up reaching the target at the same time if the defenses miss since the Pop-Up is flying a longer distance to the target by… popping up… and the Skimmer is going on a straight line. Pop-Up also means plunging fire on impact, since top armor is usually thinner and has less of a glance angle. Hope this info helps!

I read about this in the novelisation of Tom Clancy's SSN game, but it was not explained what was happening. I now understand.

Someone find Bachman and launch his ass out a torpedo tube!
Harpoons & other missiles do much better against support vessels then they do against warships. Try doing 2 legs of target acquisition then fire your Mk48 when you have a track not directly in front of your sub but not too angled where you lose the wires. This way you can fire ADCAPs outside of their sonar range and again you'll do 2 legs, the first one will bring the trop out in front of your boat then turn it parallel to the targets track, after a min or so (depending on fuel) turn the trop to target. This will help in that the enemy will think your boat fired down the line they acquired the trop at, when in reality your ship is 3-5k away from that spot. In doing this you'll almost never need the MOS.

Yeah I was thinking the MK-48s could have wiped most of that task force out.

I remember him doing something close to that in his 1984 Narwhal campaign, which means it does work. I guess he's just putting on a show, like Pikillo over here says.

SCS sadly isn't as deep as NA is, because if it was you would literally not need the MOSS. It's super easy to dodge Mk-48's in the newer soviet SSN's.

Torps are the best way to go, because of the evasive tricks you can do with them. Just takes more time and patience.
Wtf I was JUST rewatching your 1984 nato campaign 😂

Glad you have something new to watch :)
For future reference, it's much better to use your ADCAPs against warships, especially those that are particularly designed with the ASW role in mind (Frigates and Destroyers). You give your position pretty much completely away as soon as you fire missiles while submerged, but with torpedoes you can manually swim them out to points away from the sub and steer them in from multiple directions, keeping your own position much harder to determine.

It's insane. I think he is mixing with DCS
I'm sure you already know this but mk48s have ludicrous range, so it's usually best to take out the SAM equipped ships before harpooning the merchants. If that sounds too boring then the mod.3 688 that comes with the SCS campaign has VLS if you wanna play a missile game
@patchouliknowledge4455

+ Those Mk.48s are one hit one kill beasts. Honestly, its just best to mk48 all of the enemy warships then harpoon the transports/merchants
@atmosdwagon4656
9 ай бұрын
He's probably dumping the initial load of Harpoons you start the game with to avoid wasting time in port. It's smart to do that on the first mission, since if you die, eh who cares? Just restart until you get it right.
PSA: Use the F and G keys to select the next/previous tube without moving your cursor. Very useful for firing snapshots and missile salvoes, especially in Dotmod with enemy SAMs rendering single missiles and staggered salvoes next to useless, double-especially in the SCS campaign where the evasion window is so narrow. I have an updated version of the campaign files that switches the player's homeport from Guam to Okinawa, cuts down on the frankly egregious transit time in this campaign if you're interested 🤙
I was out to sea with the Abraham Lincoln, CVN-72 in 2000! How cool is this episode! Thank you Brother! It was always in the back of our minds that we could be attacked. It was hard times and good times being out to sea....

Holy Moly what an intro! Absolutely loved it. So immersive, hats off!
I always love the little bit of roleplaying you do by setting a stage and reason for the conflict. It's such a nice touch, this intro was incredible.
As a Submariner myself, this was a fantastic episode and an amazing intro to this series and is somewhat similar and now relevant to the current situation that is happening in the South China Sea. That shot from bow on seeing the Seawolf go down was awesome! I'm imaging myself going through the hole process of submerging the ship just from that shot. Also the fact that you picked the Seawolf is awesome because those boats are the absolute amazing and a very unique boat considering that are only 3 in the entire world. Anyway Job Well done with this episode and the intro! Can't wait to see more! Some tips and some fun facts: I'd recommend using torpedoes more regularly as not to risk the ship more, but then again going out of the books makes this more interesting and awesome! Also if you wanted to replay the South China Sea in some other ships, you can manually add the ships into the campaign that you want to choose. I'm currently going through a pretty interesting theoretical situation where the Virginia Class is built WAY ahead of schedule and gets thrown into the South China Sea to see what's capabilities are. Using a Virginia class in the SCS 2000 campaign is pretty awesome and interesting to say the least.

Retired Navy CPO submariner here. When I retired in 1997 the Seawolf was the new thing getting ready to go. It's a shame they were too expensive to mass produce. Fine piece of equipment. Really enjoy Wolfpack's series. I haven't play Cold Waters for about a year .. I might fire it up soon for a replay.😊

I've been watching the old Cold Waters playlists. So glad you're doing another campaign.
Love your content Wolfpack, and im stoked for the new series. I find all your videos entertaining, but sea battles are by far my favorite (with that said I was heart broken with the Stalingrad campaign ended). Keep up the good work man :) also, if you think of it gove the developers of taskforce: admirals my props. What an audacious project!
Love your Cold Waters episodes. Glad to see a new series coming in.

Hell yeah been waiting for a seawolf campaign, lets goooo
Wolfpack: "There was a Kilo out there??? I had no idea!" Me casually seeing target S8 hugging the tender for the last 10 minutes or so of the battle: (-V-). The Kilo is probably the one you hit with that ghost harpoon too.
Thank you! I can't wait to watch the next video
Just finished re-watching your Soviet 1984 campaign. What lovely timing.
Oooooo, fair dinkum, je-naj-je!!! I have been waiting for some new action. Looking forward to this.
Immediately hopped on as soon as I saw new Cold Waters content 😊
Great Intro... I concur with the comments about your tactics. I would have used the ADCAPS (firing below the layer) to take out the warships first, then fired the TASMs at the main target.
Happy as too see another Cold Waters series
What an interesting strategy you're using. You're not making it easy for yourself but you're sure making it entertaining for all of us.
