In the months following Pearl Harbor, the Imperial Japanese Navy conducted operations at sea, threatening British Royal Navy dominance in the area.
The most dangerous moment of the war, and the one which caused me the greatest alarm, was when the Japanese fleet was heading for Ceylon and the naval base there. The capture of Ceylon, the consequent control of the Indian Ocean, and the possibility at the same time of a German conquest of Egypt would have closed the ring and the future would have been black.
- Prime Minister Winston Churchill, April 1942
March 31, 1942, Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, her forces had overrun Hong Kong, Malaya, Singapore, the Dutch East Indies, and Burma. Now the Imperial Japanese Navy and Army were heating up for an assault on India, the jewel in the British imperial crown.

There is precedent for this in the Mediterrean HMS Formidable in formation with the other capital ships she was 3rd in line behind HMS Warspite, and HMS Valiant and in front of HMS Barham at the battle of Cape Matapan did fire a salvo at the Italian cruisers before she was ordered to head out of line, okay maybe not a battleship and she did have 3 battle wagons around her, I think if the crew had had the chance they would have boarded one the cruisers with cutlasses and pistols just for the hell of it...

This series is going to be epic! My great uncle Tom served on HMS Cornwall (part of the county class CAs) in the Indian Ocean. Unfortunately never got to meet the legend but my gran told me about his exploits, especially when HMS Cornwall sunk due to a carrier strike from the Japanese. I did figure out a way for 'night' air strikes. (though barely) Enemy CAP lands between 1800 and 1805. If you identify the target formation, then push your attack group a few nm past it, then when night kicks in, the CAP lands and you can attack the formation as you're 'returning' to land at your own bases/CVs. It takes serious timing and not a small amount of luck, but I've been able to pull it off a few times. Ah, it's critical to remember to keep the enemy formation between your attack group and it's launch points.
@agreenarrow
Ай бұрын
You can also just edit the game files to allow both aircraft to spot enemy formations at night time, and to change the hours aircraft can be launched. But this will also allow the enemy faction the same.
Seeing how quick it became chaotic. I didn’t expect you to sink carrier in the first episode. I’m excited to watch all of this

@whitewolf-xf9ui

@@whitewolf-xf9ui Yeah, German Me109Ks and Me262s had a similar problem against B17s. One ace pilot even commented that in a 262, he'd have something like 4-5 seconds to line up the shot and fire before blowing by the B17.
@MrLBPug
Ай бұрын
@@jeffreyestahl A6M's were perfectly capable of relatively slow flight, though. In combat, their strength lay in low- and mid-speed manoeuvrability. A strategy game with limited parameters for aircraft to adhere to is not representative of real combat conditions. If anything, it's a rock-paper-scissors affair with some if-then-else thrown in.
@jeffreyestahl
Ай бұрын
@@MrLBPug Well, duh. Have you reverse engineered any of the combats (air, sub, surface, and land)? They all pretty simplistic statistical models after all.
Always love to see some war on the sea. My old batallion motto was "Remember Bataan, Never Forget" and during commorative ruck marches to honor those who fought on Bataan I was able to meet a few survivors whilst they were still among us. The stories were both inspiring and harrowing.
Hermes, with her bow already underwater: exists Wolfpack: i can launch aircraft from there
Wolfpack, it wasn't just the prospect of a new theater that made me click over to this video fast enough to get whiplash: It was the fact that you're playing the defensive side. The ABDACOM East Indies series was riveting to watch, as you methodically turned the IJN's momentum back against them, and I'm excited to see how you'll try to do it again here. Also, it's cool that this is your follow-on from the Centrifugal Offensive - it's like that was the plan all along!
It’s nice to see the British get some representation in a fluent strategy game ( I know Atlantic fleet exists ) that an I love the looks of there carriers.
Wow! Most WotS campaigns start pretty slowly, as the opposing sides move their forces into position. But, this one started with quite a dramatic opening series of battles! One piece of advice for anyone playing this game: Never, never leave combat while an enemy carrier is on fire. More than any other type of ship, carriers can go from relatively lightly damaged all the way to sinking, as long as they continue to burn. This is also historically accurate, with many real examples from WWII. Good job getting the fires put out on the Hermes, and good luck with the campaign!
