I would choose San Mai over the new supposed powder super steels for the slight differences they might have. I have a Cold Steel like yours and it is a great knife. However, if you collect knives for the knife design more than using them, I wouldn’t buy ones for that reason. San Mai outperforms less costly steels and holds an edge better without a doubt. However, the others are just as sharp and cut just as well as San Mai they just require sharpening sooner. I use laminated steel for woodcarving. That is different because of continued use and the blade design makes it less costly to use. If you abuse a knife with hard use, it will break or chip the edge no matter what steel it is. 🙂

I didn’t even realize ( when I first bought them ), that they were that thick . I thought my KH Extreme Bowie had the thickest spine in my collection. Nope !! Cold Steel Trailmaster and Laredo wins ❤️🔪🤠

Oh that knife is just absolutely awesome !!!!! I don’t think I have that one now but I did once upon a time . ( about 12 years ago or so , I had to sell off most of my collection. Times were brutal financially. Kids had to eat ). But over the last few years I was blessed to get most of them back where they belong . There are only about a handful that I can’t find anymore . And even if I do find , they are extremely expensive!!! Just last year I met a guy who sold me his Cold Steel Natchez. I missed that one the most . I think I cried when it arrived back to me . There are still others I would love to add to the collection but not at this time . If my wife sees one more knife / package arrive , I think she’s going to kick me to the curb haha 😂.

Those are great news Sir, maybe I buy me some of those knives, I own the cold steel outdoorsman in the same version , it’s definitely a awesome cutter, awesome collection Sir, take care and god bless you allways

Definitely going to pick up that budget Laredo when it drops. It will probable be a little over 100 bucks retail. Cold steel msrp is always really high.

Oh Big Time !! I think the MSRP on the original Warcraft was over $400 buckaroos. And yeah I’m going to try and get that Laredo too . ( as long as it’s around $100 ). Thanks again for watching bro 🤠

GSM/Cold Steel just stopped Japanese production of the Trail Master Bowies in San Mai III. They are now stamped "Made in Taiwan." But because a lot of people still think Cold Steel is still selling Japanese Trail Master Bowies for $240 on Amazon, a lot of people are still listing lightly used Japan Trail Masters for only $200-$300 on eBay right now, not knowing that they are now worth $500-$1000. Now is a great time to grab up one of these blades before everyone gets wind of the fact that the Cold Steel production facility in Japan is now 100% gone, just like Ontario Knives went.

Yeah I never did get the new version of the Laredo. Just so many others out there that I still would like to purchase - basically before purchasing another Laredo . The Natchez and The Laredo are indeed the Flag Ships …. But I might include the Trailmaster in that group too . Then the Espada perhaps . I just love me some Cold Steel 🤠🙏♥️

I have an older Laredo Bowie, I believe it is SK5. it’s a beautiful knife but it’s depressing that it does not have a full tang.

( I think he still has one of my cowboy hats he borrowed when he and my son went to an outdoor country music show . He looked much better wearing it than I ever could so I told him to keep it ). Anyway thanks for acknowledging. Wishing him nothing but the best . And last - Cold Steel needs to lower the prices for sure . Sure they are great knives but budget should mean budget.

Haha I’m confused. Not sure if this is a compliment or not . Are you saying I never do “ good name brand knives “???? Where do I start with such a long list of Big Name Brand Knives ?? I’ve been doing knife reviews for 5 years now …. Got everything from KaBar to Buck to Cold Steel to Bark River to Hen and Rooster to Muela to Hibben to Pohl Force to countless customs …etc etc . Did you not see any of those vids ?? Unless maybe I’m reading your comment wrong ??????

I just got a CPM 3V laredo from coldsteel. After buying the trailmaster I had to buy the laredo. It doesn't disappoint tell you what. Holds a great edge but the sheaths trash.

for the price they need to way lower the price 4034 steel is Krupp's version of W-Nr 1.4034 and DIN X46Cr13 steel, there's about 30 different names for it. It's closer to 420J2 than 420. Medium carbon stainless steel. Quite stain resistance, but not much in the high performance edge department.

I am thinking 4116 steel . I don’t mind that steel at all . Easy to sharpen and that’s a plus for me since I pretty much suck at that fine art haha 😂 Still overpriced though . Hope they bring that down a bit . Way down !!

Should be in the 60 to 80 dollar range GSM is riding on the Cold Steel name to inflat prices. the used aint bad at all but should be priced more like a buck 119

Those "cut outs" on the outdoors man are probably there as extra grip for your thumb if you change your grip for some finer work.... (That's what I think 😶)

i have the Laredo Bowie and the Trailmaster in O1 steel , black micarta handle. I really want the Natchez but they dont make them anymore? is this true? They was supposed to come in A2,but then it said not in production anymore. I want O1, A2 or 3V or SanMai. By the way, the O1 is a very good steel and really fits a large fighter like this.

O1 is awesome!! All of the above steels ( IMO ) are pretty bad ass !! I had the Natchez a long time ago and had to sell . Took me over a decade to find another . Paid for it though !!! Haha 😂 Well worth it . Will never part with again . If I see any out there I’ll be sure to let you know .

@@tubes5150 they are sold out i see. I dont know if they send to Norway. I usally buy my knives at Lamnia in Finland. That is the place where they wrote that it is out of production. Thanks for the link,I will check out some more and I will own one in the end. I just love my Laredo and the Natchez looks awesome too. Love large and balanced fighter Bowie's you see👍🏻😄

@@bushcraft_in_the_north I’m still waiting on the 4034 Laredo . I really want to add that to the collection. When I was checking status on the pre order , I found Another made of that same steel . The Cold Steel Natchez brother !!! Made of the 4034 with 300 Stainless Steel hand guard . Sure not as nice as the original but still a gorgeous blade . Everything else is the same . Around $200 to $280 I believe . Damn I need to rob a bank !!! Haha 😂 Just so many beautiful blades out there to choose from . Can’t go wrong with a Cold Steel !!

Hello David !! Thanks for being here . So - out of the 3 Laredo blades with different steels …,, I’m going to tell you that if you can get any of those 3 Mentioned , you have yourself a pretty awesome knife . I never had any problems with any of those steels . My number 1 choice would probably be the San Mai 111 . For some reason , I just really love that steel . But again - any of those you can’t go wrong . And also - my experience with Taiwan blades has been excellent!! So far anyways ………..

You' re right , Laredo is awesome knife , for hunt , for figth and defense ( animals or animal's man ) , and collector .. I ' ve got the Laredo 4034 , and I hope to recept the San Maï Laredo made in Japan cause seller must contacted me..! So I' ve got the Tanto XII San Maï VG10 and Tanto IX black " Nigthfall " DLC in steel CPM-3V .. San Maï XII for practises , and CPM-3V IX Black for exposed . I ' m waiting for the next week , after the Recon Tanto SK5 ;-) . May be more later , I will order the Warcrat Tanto ( Big Tanto .! ) , for the next third War .. Second War was caused by the destruction /demolition from the first war 14 / 18 in europe , balkan and Arabie and majority destruction was in France .. So I think this actual War in Ukrain will be the same ... more 2 years Now , and here in France All Medias says in the beginen o this War " The Russians never stand more than 2 Months " .. and more 2 years ago , this continu.. Big Liars ... So Well , I think order more later , the Warcraft Tanto ( 4034 or VG10 ), the Outdoorsman VG10 ( may be for my Brother .. ) and the Taï Pan VG10 / San Maï III ;-) . ​@@tubes5150 Hello @tubes5150 , Oh Yeah , that 's True , it is awesome blade & steels .! so I 've got a new Laredo Bowie Knife 4034 Steel ( using in tools' steel ) , it come from a web shop , & I' ve just recept an old Laredo Bowie knife , VG1 San Maï III steel made in Japan .. This twins have the same shape , with two color , silver bright for 4034 & golden bright For VG1 San Maï , a superbe steel for this last .. This Laredo Bowie made in Japan is an invested ;-) and an " Artefact " .. & The Laredo Bowie 4034 S is for outside & practises ..! But I have somes " needs " monay , for one of the last Magnum Tanto XII CPM 3-V , dark finish DLC , I' ve got the Tanto IX in this dark finish , CPM 3V steel , and it is very scratch resistent , my Tanto IX keep his touch of new ..

Got a C/S OUTDOORSMAN which I use as a daily EDC, totally excellent in every way. I do wish C/S would provide a better sheath, had a great sheath made by PRIMAL OPTIONS KYDEX, the Best kydex I have ever used can't say enough good things of this combination.
