Cold Hardy Citrus Trees! | Planting My Arctic Frost Satsuma Tree

I finally found a Frost Arctic Satsuma Tree! I've been looking for colf hardy varieties for my garden and was able to find some at Fred Reyes Greenhouses in Simonton, TX! Although it is cold hardy down to 10 Degrees Fahrenheit, I am planting it in my ‪@vego_garden‬ rolling bed. Only so that i can take it with me one day when I leave the HOA prison! LOL

I have 2 of the Artic Frost, 1 of the Owari and 1 of the Kishu. The first year I had my Artic Frost in the ground and then we got snow and freezing weather. I had it covered and no heat. It is doing good and made it thru the freeze in january. The Owari was planted in the ground last year and during the freeze we had here in january I did cover it and no heat. I will be planting the Kishu in the ground next month. My Artic Frost that has been in the ground a few years is NOT grafted. The new one that I will plant IS grafted. I questioned this with the growers. They said all of their citrus is grafted now. The Artic Frost you have is grafted. I will be moving the Owari to the back side of my house and planting the new Artic Frost in it's place. I live on the west side of Conroe just outside the city limits.

Satsuma are huge fruit, bigger than an orange but not as big as a grapefruit. One of my favorite citrus . . . but not a small fruit. Awesome yes, small, no!

Your tree is obviously grafted. Look at the junction where there's a little bent. It's about 6 inches above the soil line.

You would probably have to call around. I’m not super familiar with any nurseries in SA

I assume that those rolling planters have overflow holes in the bottom right?

@@texasgardenguy Have you tried growing an Avocado tree in them yet? Just wondering because I know they’re prone to root rot.
