Nice choice - one of my favourite Chisel songs. The hound-dog is a semi-trailer truck (Hump that coffin up 'round one more bend...) This is a road song about a truck driver. The album is called Circus Animals because it refers to the lifestyle of a band in Australia at that time (40 years ago). Big crews to carry and set up big concert rigs - just like the circus. Chisel considered themselves the animals of that circus. Again, nice choice!

I must of played this record a thousand times since 82.. First time I've heard a reaction to houndog. Woof 😅

The second voice is Ian Moss. The live version from Ringside 2003 is the one you want.

i have that exact caravan that i use for prospecting in the outback here in Oz . ( added suspension and tech) .

Hopefully you get to the best song on this album, Letter to Alan. To be fair, they're all amazing! You're spot on about the voices too. Second singer is Ian Moss who is also the guitarist. This band has a 1-2 punch with 2 incredible singers.

1982…. This song came out…. Circus Animals album…..in July they released Circus Animals 40th Anniversary Cd with 9 of the 10 tracks available on a separate discs in video form…. Houndog features on the DVD ….. Ian Moss world class singer and guitarist….. lead guitarist in Cold Chisel.

Just found there was a link left here for the 2003 ringside performance of this song. I have the DVD of this concert and and there are a number of other videos of songs from this same show. I think I've seen mentions of some of them in the comments among some of your other videos.

Marty Chisel have so many good songs and Cover a huge Genera , So go have a look you wont be Disappointed and will be left saying why dont i Know This Band .

MM, Cold Chisel & Jimmy's career expands a very long way, 70's and still going... Do yourself a favour and do a reaction to some modern performances as you'll appreciate the growth as musicians, if your a true music lover? I promise it won't disappoint and I feel you might actually get to really like them/ him... Playlist albums!!

No.... .this is not blues. This is simply a basic rock number by Cold Chisel ..... well written , developed , arranged and played but kept basic with no frills . The song is from a very popular 1982 album but the song itself is obscure and only the 2nd time i have heard it. The more popular Cold Chisel songs we hear almost every day......whenever we cant hear a popular Jimmy Barnes solo song. lol The band had 2 leed singers, Jimmy Barnes and leed guitarist Ian Moss. Every member of the band sung backing vocals and they all wrote great rock songs as well as sweet ballads.......the drummer wrote When The War Is Over, one of their most popular live songs and definitely their most popular ballad. While both singers had sweet voices for rock and both did backing vocal for the others leed, Jimmy prefers to add crunching gravel to his voice whenever tasteful. lol When they record a ballad with Jimmy on leed vocals, he often uses his gentler , sweet rock voice......but when performed live gives you the granite crunching gravel on full power. lol Also very high soulful backing vocals when appropriate. Some people think these high vocals sound like Aretha Franklin but i cant remember Aretha singing that high unless she was belting or screaming......Jimmy actually sings these very high soul notes.

Ian Moss the guitarist is the other singer. He’s great! Do his Bow River or maybe you’d like his version of Georgia. Live versions of course.

You’re right, you should have done the live version, from 2003 album Ringside. This band is always best live. Glad you like the song!
