Colby Covington Fought Scared & Got Shown Levels Against Leon Edwards

Спорт

In this video I discuss Leon Edwards beating Colby Covington by decision at UFC 296. Colby fought scared and also got shown levels. Leon, as usual looked very sharp but still failed to entertain. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments.

Not only that, but Leon is way taller, bigger, stronger, and faster with more range too. I keep saying, at 5'11" --- exactly Islam and Charles size and height --- if Colby had gone to 155, with his D1, he LIKELY would have become champ, even if briefly, before or after Khabib... because Khabib never would have stayed long no matter what. And when he left, Islam was still in the Top 15, with no one wanting to fight with; and Charles was somewhere but not Top 5, either.... But at 170, Colby's is a bit too short, a bit too small, a bit too plodding, with only average striking.... so against someone as big and stronger as Usman, who has the elite wrestling that Colby has, the smaller, shorter man wasn't going to beat him. And against a prime 6'2" Leon, who really is one of the biggest, strongest, and fastest WW, whose wrestling is good enough to take both Usman and Colby down as well.... Colby's chances, ~36 years of age... weren't going to be more than 10%. Only grown ups who have the minds of 4 year-old who confuse WWE and D1 for elite MMA.... thought Colby was just going to use his magical skills and assets to rag doll Leon all night and there's nothing the big champ could do about it....

This is exactly why I picked Colby. I thought whoever could impose their will would win and I thought it'd be Colby because he did walk forward against Usman, but wasn't afraid to do it against Leon I thought it made sense to pick him, tbh if Colby fight again then shows he can still fight like he used to and will go forward and pressure, then I'd bet on him again if they had a rematch. Seeing what I saw tonight showed all the things I was worried Leon would get Colby with, he wasn't able to. Mostly how when Leon connected it didn't hurt Colby and that the southpaw stance of Colby messed with Leon's kicks

  • @BarkhatnieTyagi

Because Leon has several weapons: knees, kicks etc. and is pretty precise. He has a presence in there, so I can imagine why Colby was scared. But after the second round, realizing that he would lose the fight, he had to man up and just not give Leon a breather. It seems like he is delusional and doesn't even care about the title, only money. Pathetic

  • @sethsolopow3226

@@BarkhatnieTyagi The knees I can see, but the kicks wouldn't be as effective if he pressured it would make it a boxing range. Similar to Izzy vs Strickland. And a lot of Leon's kicks were negated due to Colby being southpaw and able to switch stances, since Leon likes to throw when he is in the opposite stance of his opponent. I think he was worried about getting chinned more than losing a shot at the belt which was sad to see. And even sadder, Leon connected on some good shots early and Colby was eating them so I don't think he needed to be so worried about getting knocked out. And in the 5th when Colby started to pressure he had good success. It was just too little too late. He could've beat him too he just didn't believe in himself enough it seems or at least not his chin

Colby just didn't show up idk if it was a rusty thing or what, but he definitely didn't look the same. I thought he looked not confident at all and he was probably nervous. Hot take though: if they ever rematch(unless Colby gets super old by then) as long as Colby has a good gameplan and is confident and actually fucking does something and fights like how he used to, I think he's got it. Ik that sounds wild, but here's how I see it. I thought Colby being southpaw would negate the body kicks and then would make it hard to set up the head kick, which proved to be true tn, then if Colby pressures him and flusters him with strikes like Usman did he can take him down. I thought the deciding factor was whoever gains the other's respect first will make the other too cautious then they will lose. I saw it simply as if Colby was willing to walk down and trade with Usman, then he wouldn't be afraid to pressure Leon in the boxing range. But for some reason tonight he was and I'm not sure why. I feel like he didn't wanna get clipped and embarrassed. But Leon hit him with some good shots and didn't really hurt Colby and the way I saw him winning was a KO, but Colby looked fine. Also Colby was landing on Leon when he actually went forward. Colby also was able to get him down. Maybe not immediately, but that's not really how Colby operates. He doesn't always get the first few, but he wears you down then eventually he gets you down easier and easier, like in the Masvidal fight. He struggled with Leon, but did get him down, then got him down easier the next time. He just didn't start early enough. So based off of that If Colby goes and whoops Shavkat or something showing he's still got it, I'd probably pick him. Just my take. I still feel like he has a good style to beat Leon and all my worries about how Leon would get him went away, so it all depends on if he shows up like he did against Usman

Yeah no chance he beats Leon. I don't think u remember the only reason had control time over Leon in the last round was because Leon himself was intentionally grappling with Colby instead of getting up. Everytime Leon wanted to get up, he got up. Also did u say colby negated the body kicks? Did we watch the same fight where Colbys stomach was tomato red? Colby got his leg and body fucked by Leon's kicks, got 5 of his takedowns stuffed, and got outgrappled by a striker. Literally zero chance coly wins a potential rematch.

  • @sethsolopow3226

    @sethsolopow3226

    5 ай бұрын

@@arvin9425 Not fully negated obviously, but he wasn't able to just rapid fire them like he did with others like Usman and that's due to his matching stance. And yeah never said the leg kicks didn't get him. You're looking at it as if he'd fight the same way. I never expected Colby to control him immediately. I expected him to beat Leon by starting early. Colby doesn't immediately control anyone he just keeps applying pressure until they wear out then he gets control then he starts fucking you up. The fact that he got Leon down at all shows he could do it if he starts early. With Colby he always gets you down easier eventually. He may fuck up early, but eventually he gets you. And you're discrediting Leon saying he's only a striker he's proven he's good everywhere. If Colby approached the fight right I see it being pretty favorable for him to win. At least on paper ig cuz in this fight emotions played a part. I could see Colby with forward pressure fluttering Leon with strikes then going for takedowns then rinse and repeating and we've seen he can get Leon down, no matter how long it was for that's how it starts. Then he goes again and eventually gets it a little easier then next time Leon might not get up as fast as he did before. It's a constant cycle. And with his stance and how little body kicks Leon threw compared to previous fights I see it hard for him to set up a head kick to beat Colby. This is all assuming he goes out with the right gameplan, but if he went out how we all expected him to look I think he clears Leon. Colby already showed when he decided to pressure Leon it was working and pushing him back and set up his entry well. He just didn't have confidence in himself or his chin it seems. Tbf he ate some hard shots from Leon like nothing which adds to my pick

@@sethsolopow3226 yeah Colby can mabye make something happen if he starts putting the pressure on early but I still don't see him winning. Colby shooting more shots or throwing more punches will be good for him but I just can't see him winning after he got so severely outclassed by Leon. U have to remember that Colby is human too, and his mentality seems to be weaker than before. He knows that he's lost 3 title fights, and if he somehow gets a 4th shot I think he'll be too cautious to truly get going from round one.

Look…Colby got embarrassed and frankly I don’t know how he bounces back from this due to all the factors around it. That said, can we stop with the “Leon dominated, he showed levels, took Colby to school” talk? This was an awful fight for Colby and a darn bad fight for Leon. Leon hardly landed any heavy hits - not a single “he rocked him” or dropped him moment. Leon edged out more significant strikes in most rounds, nowhere near domination. The most fair and consistent analysis I’ve seen is Leon wins 3-2, which is how I scored it, also. Leon 1,2,4 Colby 3,5. By the end of the fight, Colby began to take over and dominate and Leon looked gassed and nearly helpless. Should Colby be embarrassed for that awful showing and game plan? Yeah - it was historically bad. Should Leon also be embarrassed? Maybe I’m alone in this, but yeah, I think so. Colby - a wrestler - came back after two years, stood and traded for the entire fight, won a few rounds, and took no significant damage. I mean… we can criticize Colby, but let’s stop with the Leon praise. It’s a delusional, prisoner of the moment, thing.

I did well at predicting this. Got the main event right but I thought shavkat wouldn’t 5:37 finish Thompson that was a bad pick I forget some of the other performances.

You’re wrong about Leon not gaining new fans cause I’m one now, although I’ll go for Belal or Shavkhat if they get the chance against him.

Leon just got tired to first time with usman but I knew Leon would do this to Colby cause he ain’t as strong as usman and it showed proud of Leon he is a great champion for the sport gotta love him how can you not like Leon man I wanna see him and Adesanya fight I think that would be a great kick boxing fight Leon needs a couple more defenses and move up and try adesanya and if he wins fight for the belt or something

Leon is a real dude. No flash.. no stupid haircut.. just wins. If you don't like that style then you are the definition of casual and should give Power Slap a look. 😂

Leon proved he is levels above Colby in the range department Colby had no feints no variety and no confidence in setting up his strikes and attacks it was a pathetic display compared to Leons technicality, he really needs to train at a muay thai camp or a Firas Zihabi type of coach or get his coach to teach him differently and change his own mentality too and focus on fighting instead of scritped bullshit press conferences.
