Coin Roll Hunting Canadian $2 Coins - Colour Baby!
After taking some time off from hunting Toonies, can I get through a full box without finding counterfeits? Um... not so much! Despite the record haul of fakes, we're also hoping this box will provide some other gems: key dates, proofs, colour, NIFC, etc.
Here's the link to a previous toonie hunt where I show you what to look for to spot fakes: • Coin Roll Hunting $100...

It's scary to imagine that you could actually buy a box of toonies to hunt and get stuck with $1000 of fakes! I hope that never happens!!

Abeer - that's a great find! Congrats!
Nice hunt as always James! I don't know much more about Canadian coins than what you told me, but that 1996 does look like the German Planchet. Are there any experts you might take that to for verification? Also nice to see those half dollars! 😉
@CADRollHunter
Жыл бұрын
I've heard that it's nearly impossible to tell the German planchet from the regular one unless the coin is uncirculated. It looked different enough to me, but I'm not sure who could tell for sure. There is a grading service in Canada that would probably be the experts, but I'm not sure that it would be worth the fees. And yes, I found the lost footage of the halves!!
I've got the glow in the dark northern lights one. It is cool, but I have other favs

I see the lines on that 1996, so I think it is it.
on the 2012 Toonies i have never found a old design in my change, on the Loonie found only one in my change in 2015. I have a 1996 with a big die rotation , also was those the only Lonnies to be fake of have to
@CADRollHunter
Жыл бұрын
Of the toonies, the 96, 02, 04, 05, 06, 07, and 10 have been counterfeited. It's possible there are others. They'd only likely do the older designs. I haven't heard of any Loonies being counterfeited, but you never know - anything's possible!

@@rondougherty5481 The prevailing thought is that they're being manufactured overseas (China, perhaps?) in a commercial operation and then shipped over here.

In the past I've actually returned them to the bank. They might stop doing that at some point. I have a small stack here at the moment!
Maybe it's just my screen or a camera effect, but it looked like your War of 1812 was actually the extra sail variety.

1867 2017. 2 Dollars
Which year is most valuable ?
@CADRollHunter
Жыл бұрын
If you can find any of the 1996 (first year) varieties in a mint state, they are likely the most valuable ones you'll find in regular circulation coins.

Not true !, I have several toonies with the centre out !! Very common
@CADRollHunter

Interesting! Did you remove them yourself? Do you know how they came apart? It's exceptionally rare and can really only happen with extreme force, and not by regular circulation or handling. Having said that, the counterfeits are apparently much easier to separate.
The Canadian gov't was striking Twonies for the German gov't.? Hmmmm....

Tyler - I haven't heard of any fake loonies so far. Yes, my profile pic is a modified version of the King George 6th effigy, particularly from the commemorative 50-cent pieces from 2021 that featured him and the older coat of arms (one of my favourite modern Canadian coins).
