Hey, folks! I'm James and this is my channel, CAD Roll Hunter. I post videos on Coin Roll Hunting (searching rolls of coins from the bank to see if I can find rare or valuable coins), coin collecting, coin/collection purchases! I'm always learning, and I love sharing what I learn on my channel!

It's really helpful that you show how you organize you 2x2 coin binder. Great video.
is the latest coin book called: Canadian Coins - Vol.1 - Numismatic Issues 2024-2025 - 77th Edition? thanks
Yes - that's the current edition that was just recently released. If you're looking to order, don't forget to use the CRH20 discount code to get 20% off!
That 20 cent was only minted for a year I believe and its 92.5 sterling. Very little minted.
That's right - Canada only minted the 20 cent in 1858. Newfoundland held out and minted the in a number of years, only switching to 25 cent coin sin 1917. Thanks so much for watching!
Nice score. I need an antique Tim near me.
We all do!! Thanks for watching!
Wicked score with the 20¢ pieces!
Thanks! These were great surprises in 'junk' silver!
Great find on those 20 cents!
Thanks, Alrik!
You make me wonder what I have in Canadian coins. Copper, yes...some silver...but I don't have a clue on varieties, etc.
coinsandcanada.com is a great free resource on Canadian varieties. If you have the time, dive in - you'll have lots of fun and might discover something in your own Canadian coin collection. Good luck!
Great buy buddy!
Thanks 👍and thanks for commenting!
Amazing coins!
Thanks! Do you collect Canadian coins?
I still do not get how the 1967 80% can weigh exactly the same as the 50% when they both use copper as a base metal and are the same volume it should be impossible
Alchemical perfection. Lol
Yeah, I need someone to do the math for me!
Those 20-cent coins have crazy low mintages! I happen to have an 1858 Canadian 20-cent piece in my own collection--it's kinda crazy how much they're worth relative to their face value.
I have one, as well. It's holed, but otherwise in good shape. Because of the hole, I got a really good price on it - needed to fill that hole in my collection!
Wow! Nice purchase. The New Foundland coins are awesome! Low mint and in pretty nice condition.
I love it when I can pick up some really old silver like this - especially really low-mint stuff. Thanks!
I'm a US dealer. Would you like to bid on the Canadian stuffs I get? I'd be happy to ship to you. You can pay me on receipt. Leave a little meat on the bone for ya. Peace!
Thanks for reaching out. Can you email me at [email protected] and we can chat about it? Thanks!
I love Canadian silver. My favorite is the 5cent pieces. My best coin is the 1858 large cent,it's in pretty rough shape thoigh .Thanks for an awesome video.
Thanks, Kevin! Those "fish scales" are the hardest ones to come by and typically command a premium, so aren't usually included in junk silver. I still need many of those!!
@@CADRollHunter I picked up a few a my local jewelery store recently in my Canadian junk silver purchase.I was excited and very happy to see them when I went through them.
Nice! Hold on to those steel pennies. Not rare, but super hard to find, especially the D and S ones.
You'll have to see my upcoming video (part 3 of the collection purchase). There were a bunch of steelies in that!
@@CADRollHunter oh yea!! Ican't wait!!
Where do you get these “junk silver”’s? I wanna see if any are near markham or toronto.
I buy them from an antique dealer who buys estates. It's very common for coin collections/silver to be included in those purchases.
17x face is crazy
Thanks for watching!
On the silver degen club subreddit I some guy take a picture of a bucket of Canadian silver dollars.....he said he refines them😮 😢 bye bye silver dollars
That hurts my soul. I hope he's checking The dates first...
I guess that's a way the mintage goes down on old coins. It's too bad
@@ItsDanielMonetizedit brings down the surviving population and makes them more rare
The 20 cent coin was Known in its day as a “Fifth” Pennies were placed On a railway track when An approaching train was Heard coming to Flatten them out It was a common Practice for kids To do here in Newfoundland Before the Railway was Condemned and Removed……
Thanks for the info! And thanks for watching!!
Great finds but excellent information!
Thanks so much - I'm glad you liked it. I appreciate you watching!
Speaking of Newfoundland, i went to my local coin shop recently and found an 1869 Newfoundland penny in the bin of large pennies, which was a nice surprise
Nice - take a look at the date. The only NFLD pennies in the 60s were 64 and 65. Was it maybe a 1896? Thanks for watching!
@CADRollHunter Just took a second closer look and it said 1865. It was kind of pitted around the date and the date itself was a little slick, so I can see where it came from. Thank you for letting me know.
Nice score on those Newfoundland 20 cent pieces.
Thanks, Albert!
Definitely not junk. Great buy!
I think so too! Thanks!
that's a lot of old coins and silver
I luv them Newfoundland 20c coins!
Me, too - and they're such low mintage that it makes them very appealing.
Nice 👍🏻
Thanks!
That Terry Fox commemorative is so beautiful, I love seeing the Canadian coin designs! In America $1 coins are barely used in public, nobody circulates them and banks don’t even have alot of them anymore like they used to
It's interesting how they were easily embraced here in Canada, considering how swiftly they were rejected in the US. However, we were committed to the change and removed the $1 bill, which didn't happen south of the border. I wonder if things might have been different if that was the case. Thanks so much for watching!
Very nice coin hunt. Some beautiful commemoratives and that 99 proof. Well deserved. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Bruce! It's amazing that some of these coins get pulled out of sets and circulate. I'm happy to find them, of course!
Great finds. I want you to find a King George v. Silver
Me too!
During Christmas time I'm going to get a lot of Canadian coins so I can do a huge Canadian coin hunt
That shoudl be lots of fun!
I have a hard time finding the 2002 jubilee and the 1867 to 1992 loon coins. Do you have a hard time finding these two loonies? Nathan
Absolutely - those are both low mintage coins (~2M and 4M respectively). Not nearly as common as other issues.
I love watching your hunts. When I started collecting in the early 80's, in the U S., we found a lot of Canadian coins. So I have a good start to a Canadian collection. If you ever want to do some trading, let me know.
Kevin! Thanks so much for watching, and for your kind words! I really appreciate it and I'll keep that in mind!
Do you end up selling your silver? And if so, where do you sell it?
Hey, Bill! Thanks so much for supporting the channel - I really appreciate it! So far, I haven't sold any of the silver I've acquired. I'm not exactly a silver stacker, but I do have a bunch of junk silver that I've purchased over time. At moment, I'm just holding onto it. If silver spikes, I might consider selling some, but I think I'll hold onto it for the long term. Thanks!
What is this "sell"?? Is it like buying?
@@digginggopher Exactly!! Sell doesn't compute. I hear it's something other people do. But not me!! 🤣🤣
Good selection of Loonies.
Those are some crazy finds
Thanks so much for watching!!
Congratulations on the NIFC!! 😃
Thanks, Alrik!
This is a great hunt - that 1999 is a banger of a find. My best loonie box had me finding 150 of the Klondike loonies in BU condition (both coloured and non coloured) and 100 Elsie MacGill BU (coloured and non coloured)
Wow! Incredible score!! Thanks for sharing that!
Love those 20 cent coins.
I managed to pick up a Canada 1858 20 cent coin - it's holed, but it's one of my faves!
Does anyone know if the King Charles 2023 coins are low mintage cause I’ve got 4 quarters and 8 loonies, I’m just wondering if they’re worth holding onto
Turns out they're much higher than we'd thought. The mintages were published in the Mint's 2023 report, which you can find online.
That’s awesome! I just had my best loonie box about a month ago and it had at least 6 coloured for each of the most recent loonies and a bunch of uncoloured ones too. And then my next box had 8 King Charles
Wow! That's a hot streak!!
That’s very cool finding really cool coins in an old piggybank! I’d love to see what your albums look like now. That would be a great video!
Thanks, Julie! Some day I might give an update on my collection. This was a fun one, of course. So many old coins! Like a time capsule!
I always ♥️ to see Loonie Hunts! I find a couple that make their way to my area of Minnesota, but save for a 2008 Lucky Loonie, all just regular designs. These videos let me see what is truly out there for Loonies, and I truly appreciate it.
You might need to take a little trip up North and hunt some rolls! You might find something cool!!
i posted picture of my fake toonie in your facebook page in a post
Very nice! As I said, that one is extremely hard to get. I have no idea how many or how few were actually made. I only know of one other person who has one.
@@CADRollHunter i saw on internet they talking about it from two year ago on ontario im from montreal canada i keep it it interesting find
YES! Loonie box! I've had bad luck with loonies, but it looks like you found some goodies. Some coloured ones that are still nice and bright as well as the CRIII. The 1999 is a super good one. Thats the best year. (I was born in 99 😅) I'm sure the Charlton for RCM products has the mintage figures on the complete sets that were made with that coin if you really wanted to know the mintage. Thanks for sharing with us! RCM Rant Time: The mint are such tightwads that it's just disgusting. The new brass plated coins are terrible. I don't care about the core material, but bronze is what you use for coins. Not brass. Brass looks absolutely gross when it patinas. You use it on instuments, and old fashioned car parts. Things that are meant to be polished. Sure tin is 4 times the cost, but at unit price it's 1 cent per loonie vs ¼ of a cent per loonie. Who was the boardroom suit dummy who decided to sell out the beautiful look of our coins to save ¾ of a cent on making them? Do we really need that extra $150,000 a year? Was that necessary? You basically need to be the first person to get it brand new if you want the loonie to look nice in your collection because they turn ugly in a matter of days if left out, especially if you get skin oil on them. RCM Rant Part Duex: They really need to stop feauting peoples' likeness on coins. Terry Fox, sure, because he himself is the same thing as his accomplishment that is being honoured. But the last 4 we got Graham Bell, Oscar Peterson, Elsie MacGill, and now Whatsername Montgomery. Can we get something a little different? Please for the love of all that is numismatically good... just depict their accomplishment and inscribe their name around the rim if you want to do these types of coins. It'll look more visually pleasing when you can make a really cool design and not need to superimpose someone over top of what the coin is really for... the accomplishment. Also, get rid of that stupid security stamp. I'm sick and tired of every design having to be worked around this useless central feature that nobody bothers looking at, and no collector likes. At least put it at the bottom. Nobody uses it for it's intended purpose. The average cashier has absolutely no clue it's even there. Anne of Green Gables could have made such a great coin with just Anne, and the house with the green gables, but nooooo. We just have to have that stupid security stamp on there and then have the the author taking up half the coin, and it just looks off balanced and uninspiring. The green gables would have looked way better colourised than PEI farm fields. At least on the commemoratives they can do away with the stamp. Who's gonna make counterfeit comems anyways? And you'll save money on the minting process that you can put towrds some more expensive tin so you can plate them in bronze again.
I got one of those new 2024 loonies in my change the other day
Very nice - I'm still looking for my first!
@@CADRollHunter in the same change I got my first 2024 nickel as well
@@mattygreen7463 Nice! Another one I'm still looking for!
I buy nothing from the US Mint, there such a ripoff with all of there products. They need a different director for the company.
Lots of people are unhappy with the US Mint, that's clear!
Beans
Awesome box James!! Really great finds. Hit the like everyone
Thanks so much Aaron!
Is the fake toonie i found kzread.infoXv8E71jDNXw?si=FcnREzc2LztsrVzH
Pretty good hunt, especially the 1999 NIFC. Usually loonie boxes are $500, but you got a large box ($1000).
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
