Well my interpretation of it was that he only dreamt it all up as a kid. When he got off the toy, he imagined himself working hard and long throughout his life until one day he'd empty it all to launch off in the spaceship! So the whole film didn't really span decades, it covers only a timespan of about 5 minutes that he spent fantasizing about his childhood! I think it's all the more plausible since the film begins with fantasizing as well :)

Worthy of the winning award movie title, it was one of the great 5 minutes in my life. The man worked hard, he dreamt big and he achieved his dream. In my opinion, the film is not a moral lesson about working hard or money’s power, but the importance of having a goal/dream in our life, the one that motivate us to move forward, to live another day, and to pursue our own happiness. By the way, his disappointed face when he first tried the rocket spring rider was priceless, such a pure innocent look (and a little cute) when he found out the reality does not like his expectation, we all have been there, right:)?. That’s all for my amateur critics, peace.

Most people have that experience because they try to do it by themselves for themselves. Collaborate and shave years off the process and achieve multiple goals. Its probably better to have realistic goals. I felt like that old guy before launch when I realized we never went to the moon. 90% of what we "know" about space is a fantasy just like him flying away in a coin operated rocket ship. This video was great though.

I think this is a metaphor. He wasn’t actually selling lemonade for the rest of his life. It showed that he always had hoped to go to the moon but he never had. Then when he dies he blast off to the moon with the spirit of when he was a child. Story: Child becomes a literal neckbeard, selling lemonade for meager sums, with the hopes that a coin operated ride will take him to space instead of studying and working hard to become an actual astronaut. /end What’s the lesson here? That you can chase pipe dreams as long as you have the money to do so? The animation is just a repackaging of tacky, all-american, work-hard-n-save-up, follow your dreams BS.

I interpreted it this way. The whole story happened in the mind of the kid after the first disappointing 5¢ ride. That's why the price of lemonade never changed and he was assessing how many years and 5¢s it'd take for him to actually go that distant. He could only think of lemonade stand as the only way to earn money atm. It just represented his passion, will and drive to fly to the moon. This is a brilliant display of a child's vivid imagination. Thanks for making it. :)

@@flybeep1661 Maybe you can help explain it because all I'm seeing is the same message that we all seem to buy into. Work hard and put off being happy because it's all going to pay off, just keep working a little longer, a little longer, you'll be happy later, we swear, just keep working at it a little longer and you'll get to be happy, just be patient. But it never comes, you just keep going and hoping and being patient until you realize that this is it. You have to enjoy the scenery that is passing you right now or else your whole life will pass you like the blink of an eye and you'll regret that you never actually got to the moon, but maybe if you had just "worked harder" or if "those damn ___ wouldn't have ___". I see so many people focusing on what they don't have, like the boy letting all those people pass through his stand without forming a relationship with a single one of them. Nothing was even a blip on his radar because he fixated so much on what he didn't have. He didn't even find pleasure in his little toy rocket anymore, he just kept thinking "Someday I'll be happy, and then all of this will have been worth it"

it reminds me of a song named "fix u by coldplay " and i think it's so relatable to this : When you try your best, but you don't succeed When you get what you want, but not what you need When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep Stuck in reverse And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace When you love someone, but it goes to waste Could it be worse? Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix yo

Hats off to all the creatives that can pack all that sense of whimsy and emotion into such a small, tightly-woven story...and all without a word of dialogue.

This is a beautiful story. I use it with my English students. I show them some screen grabs and get them to create a story and then they compare their story to the original. Everyone loves it! They then go home and recreate the feelings and thoughts in their own written version of the film. Brilliant stuff!

Rex Grignon visited one of my animation classes as a guest speaker earlier in the year and showed us your film, and I’ve been eagerly waiting to watch it again ever since! This film is absolutely outstanding!! The boarding, design, lighting (love how it starts off in the morning and progresses to evening as he ages!), the message is powerful, textures are gorgeous, I could go on and on! It’s also specifically inspiring that it’s made by independent artists, especially to me and my friend as students who are dreaming to pursue our film idea. Thank you and congratulations to you and your incredible team, and good luck to you on any future projects you pursue! (And PROPS to the musicians! Bookmarking those names to look into later!! :))

Not the way I thought it would go. You dream, go to collage, become the astronaut he wanted to be. Never thought he be to old crazy man that save every nickel he earned to to pop into that little ride. But I found myself holding my breath as those last two coins fell into place, and off he went. He was that little kid again living his dream. To make it even better, it's the short that kept giving. Showing the remains of the rocket base, the rocket flying threw the credits. Wonderful story telling, with out a word said.

Moral of the story: don't give up or you will waste 5 cents on a ride and the mom didn't just go home without him she just went in the store for 50 years or something
