For some reason, I had this video in my Watch Later queue yet never got to it til now! What a great interview and nice time in what has to be one of America's greatest coin shops. So much to love, aside from the Morgan dissing. lol I enjoy the in-traffic shots in Chicago that are so familiar to me, but most of all the store exterior shots along Clark and looking into the gallery windows! Brings back memories of one particularly wonderful trip to the store in, I think, late fall of 1967, when I purchased a now-vintage Johnson-Massey poured 3oz bar for $10, from the showcase just under where Russ' left hand rests.

I may get some shade for this, but I agree w/ these guys on the Morgan dollar. It may be one of the most popular coins in US numismatics, but there was a scheme devised by mining companies out west to lobby the US government to buy their silver, and the Morgan dollar is the product of that. Generally the coins were overproduced, relative to public demand; and nobody, at any time in history, has ever liked carrying large, heavy coins in their pouches or pockets, regardless of the value... but such coins do eventually make for impressive collector's pieces. Even though I've moved beyond collecting Morgan dollars (and US numismatics in general), I still have a GSA-issued 1883 CC Morgan dollar that I bought back in 2001 from a local dealer. It's nice for any collector to own at least one of those coins, especially if they were issued from the Carson City mint.

@6:14...almost stopped watching after hearing the bad new about Morgan dollars, lol! I hung in there until the end T, I did it. Really enjoyed hearing about the super rare ancient gold coins, wow! I like the Seated dollars but they are expensive to collect in good condition like Russ said. Great pick ups- Engelhard and no surprise..vintage Mexican silver👍👍😊

Really interesting insight into the Morgan Dollars. I knew about the bags sitting in vaults, but to see that at least some dealers aren’t very interested in them was eye opening. I have a type set started with the Morgans with the intent to collect one from every year, but won’t be chasing after anything of super high value.

Now that shot in there display case of the walking Liberty halfs are what I enjoy! I like all the old Barber coins also!! It was also great asking them to see there favorites also! Oh man T you're killing me with that 1995 Gold set. I seriously contemplated purchasing that set from the mint back in 95 but I unfortunately didn't 😕 😔 My financial circumstances were not as they are now but I could have pulled it off but wasn't willing to make the sacrifice 😢 Thanks for bringing back the pain and sorrow 😭

Wow, interesting background on the morgan’s. Doing research on collectibles before buying is very important. Always research the fundamentals. If mintage is high, but it’s still popular, question why that might be the case. Unjustified fomo created by other bagholders? Possible. What’s ultimately important is, are you happy holding it? If yes, then it matters less if the fundamentals are there to back it. Collectibles are only collectibles if collectors say they are. They create the market.

For me, it’s a wonderful place to visit.

Can't imagine a real numismatist not liking morgans considering 350 million were melted due to the Pittman Act, their mintages are probably about half of what's published.

To be honest, I didn’t really check prices on Morgan’s there.

Only nine Libertads to go before completing the full album! I will be counting them down in due time. I got a new interest in trade dollars. But will stay focused on one goal at a time. Next is Kookaburras, I only got 10 but may need to pause to buy a reverse proof 1oz libertad perfect grade lol. That was a contradiction, wasn't it?

@@TtheSilverStacker check with Facebook groups look up everything libertads. They sell less than eBay. But be careful there are scammers always ask for referrals in group. I seen a 2006 there with a guy named Erik

@@kscoins4787 thanks. I used to have a small stack of 1921 BU Morgans & sold them before the price exploded. As far as Morgans, I'm down to only a 1878 CC Morgan PCGS AU53 and a 'gem' BU Morgan 1879

Could it be the reason that Spanish milled coin had thirty chop marks on it is because there was a lot of dishonest assayers?

whats up everybody watch out for Ebay they are charging tax on silver and gold and the shipping charges to. i have just caught this on a new auction i won about 5 days ago and i went back to see if they were charging me before and no just on the shipping charges and thats wrong to. i been calling Ebay for the last four days to get them to fix so i can pay for silver coins i have won but they want fix the problem. so i have reported them to the Texas comptroller to get them to fix and will try to let the stacking community know whats up. look at the invoice to see if they are charging tax before you pay. if so complain to ebay thanks

@@TtheSilverStacker true. And to each their own. I like that you can get good Condition ones though what’s the point of getting an 17 or 1800s coin and can’t read half of it? Unless millionaire how are you supposed to collect them. Morgan’s have prices and grades of all ranges.
