Coilovers vs Lowering Springs - Which is Better? What's right for you? Explained!
In the great debate of Lowering Springs vs Coilovers, there have been a ton of questions. We decided to take a different kind of approach to a video to see if we can be as informative as possible in the differences between lowering springs vs coilovers.
We figured we likely didn't answer all of the questions you guys have, so please do ask in the comments below and we'll answer them as best as we can. If we get a lot of the same question we might make a whole new video about it.
Let us know if you like this video format and if you find it informative and if it helps you in your decision of which is right for you. Thanks!

If you track your car? Then yes! Lowering springs will shorten the life of your shocks. But for the streets and simple driving? They will last damn near forever

@@joh1948 it will increase your handling and you will feel the bumps a little more, but not in a aggressive way! So pretty much it won’t make your car lurch forward from hitting bumps and having that annoying bounce from every bump because the springs aren’t as stiff as you would get from coil overs. So good for street driving for a smooth ride and safe lowering stance (except for those hard dips in roads).

Whats the best coilover do you guys recommend for budget for 2013 Honda Civic LX for smooth ride??

You also need to get the car corner weighted when installing coilovers.
I’m so torn because I want my car lower without losing much ride quality. Coilovers are more rough but lowering springs might need camber bolts/plates to get alignment back in specs.

as long as you have your toe adjusted correctly, a little camber won't burn your tires out. you might need to correct lower control arm geometry with a roll and center kit

I know nothing about cars, but I want to lower my ‘21 Lexus IS 350 FSport AWD. In your opinion, should I definitely go coil overs instead of lowering springs? This is the first time ever lowering a car and I want to do it right. Plus, in the future, I might want to add a slightly wider tire for a more aggressive stance. I would love any comments or input you would have. Thank you so much!
Hey guys, great video!! newbie here btw...so a few dumb questions: do cars have coilovers from the factory? Or is that an aftermarket thing ppl add?? I have a 2014 Audi a6 that I want to lower, and I'm leaning towards a coilovers as opposed to the lowering spring from all I watched so far, but am I reducing the suspension quality by getting coilovers? Also, will the car select system (comfort dynamic..etc) still work if the OEM parts aren't there?? Im so confused as to how all that stuff actually work lol
@Redline360

Technically, a coilover is a coil spring over a shock. But in the aftermarket, coilovers are a height adjustable (and often dampening adjustable) suspension setup. If you get lowering springs, you can keep your dynamic suspension settings, but if you get coilovers most of the kits eliminate that (and you get a warning light). Some kits do let you attach the factory dynamic servos, but not too many allow that.

Omg most of the people here don't even know how to ride a bicycle. Coilovers are for professional racers to go on the track at high speeds. People here they want to lower the car for the looks. I don't think there is any professional drivers here because professional drivers know what they need. People are non sense this days 😒 Coilovers to drive in the city 🙄😒😑. Please

If you just want to keep it simple and get it lowered, go with lowering springs. Your stock shocks will last as long as their condition... so if they're in good shape they can last you many years with no issues. Many people end up selling their cars before they have a problem with their shocks :)

Hey Eddie. it's really personal preference, but we would recommend TEIN Basis Z. They reuse the OEM top hats, and offer the most comfortable ride from the coilovers in this price range. They're not dampening adjustable, but can you set your ride height. Consider them to be all 4 new shocks with adjustable height springs. You can check them out here: shop.redline360.com/products/tein-street-basis-z-coilovers-nissan-240sx-s14-1995-1998-gsp06-8uss2

Bc racing sells extreme low kits.
What about stiffening? Do they keep your car from bouncing too much if you have your wheel hitting the fender when going over bumps?
