Cohiba Behike BHK 54 vs Davidoff Royal Release Robusto Cigar: Which Is the Best Premium Cigar?

I don't really mind loose draw all that much. Actually I'll take it over a tight draw any day. With loose draw, you have the option to control it yourself unlike tight draw.

"I want to work for the cigar" Perfect description of my exact opposite. I don't think I've ever experienced a Davidoff with a "loose" or "open" draw. Which leads me to think that you might be much more used to (what I consider) the intolerably tight draw of many Cubans. It is funny though how you describe being so angry at a loose draw. That's my exact feeling around tight draws. Makes the cigar tedious, and tends to alter the flavors in a negative way. 🤷‍♂️

Usman is used to tight and plugged Cubans. That's why the NW went bitter because he is drawing too hard, hence the hot fast burning cigar. In my humble opinion Cubans are over rated. Out of a box of 25 Epi No 2's aged for 4 years in their box in a humidor 8 were plugged/un smokable. In almost 30 years of smoking cigars I can probably count on one hand how many plugged NW I have smoked. I love certain Cubans but lean towards NW as they tend to be more reliable when it comes to their draw and flavour profile. Hay and grass gets a bit boring sometimes.

Great review and great production. I couldn't agree more regarding a loose draw on a cigar. I smoked a Trinidad Topes (my first Topes) on Sunday and was it was like a wind tunnell. Terrible experience and a waste of money. Fortunately, it was followed by an Esmerelda later that night which was immaculate👌. PS: I like the handshake analogy too. Hopefully Covid isn't about to herald the end to the humble handshake!

If you want a Behike at 30 punds, get san cristobal del habana 20th anniversary edition. it's and exclusive release for la casa del habano stores and a limited edition, but it's the best cigar I've ever smoked, and I smoke cigars since I was 17. I would buy 10 boxes of those if I had enough storage in my humidor

Great review Usman, 2 real heavy weights. I love Davidoff's but I tend to always go for the regular production cigars, not special releases (even though the Royal is a RR). They smoke well and the draw is fine..... for me. I like smaller ring gauges and figurado's. But I get what you mean. I had cigar recently which felt like sucking air through a straw, the moment I started I wanted it to end. The Behike looks and sounds like the real deal. A shame as its so freakin expensive and now I feel the need to try one. But in some ways its like drinking wine, how much better is a £30 red compared to a £190 red? Its personal preference. Is the Behike better than a Siglo vi? Is the extra cost justified? Having never smoked the latter I wouldn't know. Was it in your book? Good honest review, nice work.

We don't get a lot of chance at good Cubans here in the states but everyone I know that maintains Cubans here as the humidity around 65 where new world is around 70/72. Assuming the davidoff might be stored closer to 65 it might be a bit dry compared to the Cuban. Maybe try running a new world humidor at 72. Let them rest a while and see if that makes a difference for you.

Agreed on loosely wrapped cigars! They cannot burn correctly so one of those cannot be an excellent cigar. If a cigar stays lit it can hardly be too tight. Kind of like an espresso that does not extract correctly- it cannot taste good even if the coffee is great. The draw is everything!

But that's a construction issue then. I have to smoke a long filler cigar the same way I need to smoke a short filler, which isn't ideal. As much as we complain about tight drawing cigars and ones that are plugged, a loose drawing cigar is similarly poor when it comes to contruction. It's the same thing but on the opposite side of the spectrum.

To clarify, the Davidoff didn't have an open draw it had an empty draw. IT was basically a wind tunnel and cigars such as those are flawed in how they were produced. There's a balance between a having a good draw versus a difficult draw and I prefer something a little on the firmer side. Having said that Almost every other Davidoff cigar I have smoked has exactly the kind of draw that I enjoy.

I'll just have to seek comfort in my Siglo's and live vicariously though you. On a side note: I think maybe you should ask yourself; what can be said about this cigar that is interesting and not repetitive? You don't have to make a script, but rather think about it beforehand, maybe do some light research and jot a few bullet points down on a piece of paper that you can refer to when you sense that you're getting stuck talking about the draw.
