A sense of urgency combined with intense focus triggers neuroplasticity (the brain's ability to rewire itself physiologically) because it enters an altered state releasing noradrenaline and then acetylcholine; a neuromodulator that highlights & targets which groups of neurons to change. Combine that with deep sleep or complete rest allows the brain to actually install the learning. So naps are incredible ways of installing long-term memory. To further increase retention use Active Recall; the most powerful way to install knowledge and actually retain it long term. Active Recall is basically the opposite of passive observation; like reading, mindlessly watching videos, etc. Active recall is about consciously dwelling on a piece of information, visualizing the included elements,, attacking it from different angles, asking questions, answering those questions, speaking it out loud, attaching that information to the visual components, etc. THAT makes EVERYTHING stick in amazing detail and makes it easily accessible too, years after even. Just my two cents :)

Quality encoding goes over recalling tho. If your encoding is really low, it will cost a lot of time and energy to remember something by recall alone. But when your encoding is high it requires little to no recall to remember something. Look at Bloom's Taxonomy

You may want to consider putting proper citations to credit the people who came up with these concepts, it also helps for further reading. But again, thanks for the good job on making these complex information easy to understand!

Sometimes when I forget something rather menial and someone says something negative about it I tell them that I have forgotten more than most people will ever know... I explain it as my brain makes a unconscious decision to keep or delete things. So it turns out, I have been doing things correctly this whole time. Also something I have noticed with memory is that writing the information down will allow me to recall it better in the future. (not referencing the notes.... just simply that I took the time and the mental power to write it down seems well enough but being able to look over it again is also a plus)

My personal experience are similar to yours, especially you talk about the part "my brain makes a unconscious decision to keep or delete things", that is what I feels like all the time (compare to average person around me), can only remember when I do extra effort (sometimes even big effort), otherwise things I remembered just gone in hours/days/weeks But strangely some things/memories can hold very tight for long time, like years, and some of them are casual moment I don't event do much effort to remember it intentionally

Tell me how I’m supposed to prioritize caring for my child, my cats, husband, our house, and school- and work? Just.. there isn’t a list of “most important”, it’s all equal? Or close to equal. None can be set aside for another day. The child care and cat care can not wait, I have to break up school and work to deal with their sudden needs. This is all good in theory but I’m not sure how it’s implemented for an overwhelmed working and in school mom

I see this as valuable information. I would like to make a suggestion. What is affordable is relative to income and financial responsibilities of an individual. A unique position for most. Making it difficult to know what is affordable to 1.91 million subscribers. The value of a course can be demonstrated intrinsically. The value of the skill received for example. It's possible this suggestion may increase cognitive load.

one more thing I have noticed - like when I am doing sports, or driving , or somthing what is not occupying my brain, it becomes boring. So I found a way to get rid of boredom - to listen some talk. I tried audio books. But also recently noticed that it really depends on the content. Some content requires so much load that I do not feel like I want, and I choose to listen to music. Like it feels unproductinge - I could listen audio books and learn stuff when doing sport but somehow it feels not pleasure. Maybe if I was bored all day and not getting a load from job, then it wouuld be diffrerent. But after work day it is not pleasure. Same with studying after work - as we know jobs want as to study, to grow. But it feewls I have to force myself , because there is a load.

ADHD makes utilizing working memory a bitch. I'm finding with ADHD very few things hold my attention for long so having a second stimulus ready and waiting gives my brain a quick break, but then allows me to refocus on the task at hand. This really is an oversimplified explanation of Cognitive Load Theory... There's a lot more too it, for example that Germane Load is actually useful and will lead to enhanced learning while Intrinsic load is relative to the learner's expertise, has an inverse relationship with it. For the most effective learning you want to minimize Intrinsic and Extraneous load as much as possible to allow for enough mental capacity for Germane Load. For example, beginners should study instructions or worked examples instead of solving problems because it requires less Intrinsic load and allows for the creation of Cognitive Schemas due to capacity for Germane Load.

Yes and no. Yes, it strengthens the ability to take cognitive load, but only if you are learning for fun. If you need to apply the information in your life, this will cause a peak of anxiety(because anxiety is also a cognitive load), thus making you drop the load altogether. So no, it is not recommended.

Not really true, speaking from personal experience. Multi-tasking is a skill, which means if practiced, one gets better at it. However, it applies only to that set of tasks. So if one is used to multi-tasking A, B and C, then attempts to multi-task D, E and F, one will fail. Take your video game example, a first-time player has trouble using the controls, watching the screen for visual cues and using the game terrain effectively but gets better with practice. I imagine you saying to a gamer what you are saying here and your video becomes a satire on self-help videos.

The example u gave it’s not what he means by multitasking because u need to be able to watch the screen and press buttons to play the game whereas multitasking is doing two different jobs at the same time, eg eating cereal and scrolling on ur phone which slows down or makes the other activity less focused

Teddypal clearly multitasking is a skill because the more your practice the better you become, but what he is saying is that multitasking is actually inefficient and uses a lot of resources because of the high cognitive load. I see some students in the library watch Netflix whilst doing their assignments which is highly unproductive. Would you not rather have 100% focus and concentration when doing your assignments and get a good grade compared to passively doing your assignment while simultaneously following the conversations in the movie? This is what the video means by a high cognitive load because your brain has to process large amounts of information from different sources simultaneously putting stress on the brain. Maybe your confusing having good concentration and focus to being good at multitasking; I don’t know about you but I’d rather do one task and do it right and move onto the next one than do it 50/50.

@@craigmalcom6294 Whether a cognitive load is high, depends on the capacity for cognition. I agree there is a cognitive load. I think we disagree about what subjective measurement falls into the "high" category, or high enough to be unlikely or impossible category.

Teddypal us humans can’t truly multitask because multitasking is doing multiple things simultaneously however the brain cannot process task simultaneously, we simply switch between them. Coupled by the fact we have limited working memory and thus a cognitive load it’s been proven, a better way to utilise our precious resources is to use our undivided and full attention on one task. That people said, it doesn’t mean it’s inefficient to listen to music and do an assignment or go for a run and listen to a podcast simply because these are Low level tasks where u can afford to passively listen to music for example

about multiple project- you still do not do hourse and dog at the same minute. So you build house for several hours, go train dog for an hour lets say. But here you have option to do at different times. What can you advice if you want to do business while working at full time job? We all know that creating business is risky and we are not making money at the start, often best is to create business while working at full time job. So impossible practically to do separatelly. Theoretically I can do them separartelly because I have lot of savings and investmeents and no family so I can live cheaply but the chance that I will succed at my busines also is very low. And I do not believe I would make it successful in few months. I will not make it successful in a year. So year of salary loss is big investment for not making a buisness. And I cannot forecast when my business will start be succesful. Plus when I do not know if my business will be succesfuyl ever, I do not have full motivation to work as hard as I work in my job. If I would see the light at the end of the tunnel, then maybe I could quit my job and focus fully on my businesss. Plus I feel like making a loss by quiting the job also since i have learned so many things which I will not use - so its a waste.
