Coffee is bad for you?! (Reacting To When I Ate Raw)

Reacting to one of my old videos from 2012 called "2 reasons to give up coffee completely". Obviously this was when I was still eating a "fully raw" diet (low fat, high carb, lots of fruit 80/10/10 style). Sometimes it's good to see how far we've come. Sometimes it's terribly awkward and embarrassing and hilarious.

@Naomi Nelson Not really. Food is necessary for survival, everyone is dependent upon eating food by default. Caffeine is not necessary for anything. My UnCaffeinated Anecdote: After 22 years of addiction to coffee (3 cups per day), I gave up caffeine and it was one of the best things I ever did for myself. My digestion is better, my sleep is better, my energy is stable all day, no headaches, I can handle stress a bit better. If I am fatigued, litterally, WATER HELPS (I said this in CAPS because I was surprised at how well water works for my energy levels. It's weird) or I have a snack and here is my energy. Now when I drink a cup of coffee (90mg), my blood vessels constrict and I am cold all day I pee all the time, my poop is uncomfortable, and I am more snarky and impatient. Even a whole chocolate bar (other than peeing all day) will do all this to me. The only draw back from being caffeine free is that I don't wake up as fast in the morning. I putt around for the first 30min-1hr upon waking. Withdrawl was shit for a month and a half and I didn't start reaping there benefits until a solid month in. The first week, my eyes were glazed over and I was living off ibprofuen to help headaches. The stable energy didn't happen for about 3.5 weeks after stopping caffeine. Oh but it was SO worth it. I am only 4 months into caffeine free and I love it. Okay, I am not caffeine free completely. I enjoy my life now and them. I will drink 1/4 cup of coffee OR 1/3 a bar of chocolate (never both) for a treat. Also (I am not a doctor), I keep coffee on hand to help me if I have an asthma attack. I usually just use my inhaler but it is nice to know I have coffee on hand to help open my airways. (Again, I am not a doctor, your inhaler should work, talk to your doctor first about caffeine. Take your inhaler. Don't rely on coffee to save you). ... Anywho, I would recommend anyone to get off coffee and give themselves 2 whole months to adjust first before deciding they need it. ...that said: caffeine is a lesser of evil drugs so, do what you need to do to get through this life. ✌️

You were such a source of sanity for me when I regained normal eating (two years ago now). I remember having felt so stupid that I fell for something as absurd as 30BAD/RT4, tha tI lost sense of myself as a critical thinker. It really helped to see someone say they did this too, and got over it, and that it's not a good diet. You really helped me regain a sense of humor about it too, honestly. And the reaction videos are just so good and validating like, it's such a good invitation to LAUGH at raw foodism, and not entertain it even for one second. I love watching you not take your past-self seriously at all. We need more of that. Anyway, I love these. And I'd love to see you talk more about the susceptible mentality that leads people to raw foods, the deperation (and the power-hungry egomaniacs online who try to convince people into dangerous lifestyles). If someone suggested that keeping a crystal in your back pocket might make you feel less depressed, the worst that will happen to someone desperate to try anything is they spend a bit of extra cash. However when people suggest something like fasting ... The risks are very easy to overlook or just not be aware of to the average person.

It takes regularity to get so dependent on caffeine that you experience symptoms of withdrawal. I drink coffee daily but at varying times and amounts and do don't suffer the effects of missing a dose. I also like the flavor, though that has been something I've grown into as I've gotten older and my palate have evolved. My local coffee place has decaf that is actually decent, and I've been known to get a cup of that, even when I'm not looking for a boost.

@@sanityisrelative Kinda like everyday, sometimes several times a day. Lots of people get stuff like headaches after not drinking caffeine. If you can stop drinking coffee for several days, then fine. If you're not able to without side-effects, then you're addicted.

Basically my view on caffeine is, if you’re going to drink anything with caffeine try to limit it to coffee or are any natural foods that contain caffeine. need caffeine? It just depends on the person. I went online no caffeine cake for like six months no soft drinks no coffee etc. personally for me I did not experience anything negative. No withdrawal symptoms or feeling exhausted. But for other people they may take caffeine for several different reasons such as like of course an energy boost are also along with some people may need it for ADHD because it keeps the brain stimulated and focused for some people of course. Some people may end up drinking caffeine to help them sleep at night because of course some cases of ADHD caffeine works in reverse on people with ADHD. If you’re wanting to quit caffeine I would just speak to your primary care doctor. And towards the myth that you will lose weight if you quit caffeine is bullshit I lost weight by quitting soft drinks after when I start drinking coffee and I actually stabilize my Weight.

This is important to see and analyze again because just the way you were so confident back then about telling this information to people, the internet is full of people who are talking about what they believe in with full conviction.. It's good to know that some years later they might change their mind? And of course people will change their minds about stuff! The more you know.. And someone's opinion and current view of anything is not an objective fact. And people who sound the most convinced (probably they really are) sound the most true to those looking for some signs or solution to their problems.

I have to get iron intravenously constantly. So I need a lot of sleep as well to feel rested and as a mom of a school age child and a newborn that doesn’t happen. Coffee helps and I would be lost without it. But I totally understand the sleep issue. And yeah for those wondering anemia is not exclusively a diet issue because I do all I can to get enough and it just doesn’t work for me. I blame heavy cycles and genetics as my moms side all have anemia. Sometimes even meat eaters are anemic so don’t come for the vegans guys

But what about the fact that most people drink coffee due to lack of sleep? Even you admit that is why you drink it. Therefore don't you think it is disrupting your bodies signals that you are tired and need more sleep? Not to mention I don't personally need any studies to tell me coffee is bad for me. I simply know because of the horrible anxiety it gives me when I drink it. Yes I may have more energy but it puts my nervous system in what feels like hyper drive.
